Kyosei's shout caused everyone to wake up from their slumber. Considering that they were in an apocalypse, they didn't question Kyosei's orders. They immediately armed themselves and they saw the zombies that came flying from the open hole in the windows.
"What the hell?! Why are they flying and entering this place!?" Okabe shouted while gripping the metal pipe he grabbed nearby.
"Those f*cking zombies below started throwing their kind in here! Get ready! Not all zombies that fly straight might die from the impact! Stay far from the window and the walls where the holes in the window are aligned!" Souichi shouted.
One of the zombies that landed started to stand up, but before she could fully stand straight and lunge for an attack, Kyosei released a kick and toppled the zombie off the building.
"Don't let them get up. Once they land on the floor, either stomp them or bash them with your weapon!"
A few moments later, another set of zombies landed on their floor and began to stagger to their feet. Mr. Leo quickly swung the metal pipe to the zombie, so hard the zombie's head burst as soon as he did.
It's messy as a result but no one dared to say anything now that the zombies are not going to stop coming. Whether it gets messy with disgusting brain matter or flesh, it doesn't matter anymore.
Kyosei peeks again at the window and he can see a new batch of zombies coming in.
"I swear, that zombie hurling zombies in our direction is getting more precise as time goes on."
Chie who is documenting the zombie's behavior on the side named the new zombie category. "Let's categorize that one as a "Hurler."
"Shouldn't we name them as Thrower or Catapult Zombie?" Souichi quickly denies the categorization of the new zombie.
"It hurls zombies towards us by throwing. Although Thrower would make sense, I don't like the way it sounds. Hurler feels better and besides, if more zombies can throw things at us like the big guy, then we can call it that," Chie explained and defended her reasons on why it should be called a hurler.
"It doesn't matter what we call that zombie. What we needed to think about is how to kill it," Kyosei said while pissed at the zombies that reaches the hole in the wall and standing up as a result.
"If only we had some ways to deal with those guys in a distance, a gun or an explosive, anything would do..." Leo murmured as the zombies continued to pour in.
Hearing this, Kyosei realizes what he has to do. He rushes over to the backpack that Kato had given to him before they have parted ways. Inside the backpack are the supplies that Kato pushed to him just so he can fend off the enemies. There are tripwires, c4 charges that he has no idea how to use, and a few grenades. It's not much but they can have chances to dispose of that zombie once and for all.
"Are those...grenades?" Miyuki was surprised when Kyosei suddenly pulled them out.
"Holy sh*t, Kyosei, where did you even pick those up? There's no way you just happen to carry them with you!" Souichi couldn't even hide his amazement at the real deal.
"These things are something that one of my friends has given to me before we parted ways earlier. He said I might need it and it seems that this is the best time to use them.
Leo approached the items that Kyosei pulled out and examined them.
"These are the real deal. It's an M67 Frag grenade. It is the standard grenade all around the world and even the SDF uses this. It has a delay of around 4 to 5 seconds before it explodes. Based on what I know, the fatal radius of the explosion would be 5 meters within the blast site and can injure those within 15 meters of the blast site. We can indeed use this. How many you have of these, Kyosei?"
"Including the one I removed from the bag, I have at least 6 of them. There are also C4 charges but I don't have any knowledge of using them," Kyosei said.
"We can just leave that one aside. No one from us has any experience in using those. We should take advantage of these grenades to get rid of that zombie, or else, we will be stuck fighting here all night long," Chie said.
"So we throw this grenade there? I don't think we can throw it that hard toward the zombie we are going to kill. How about a slingshot?" Cindy appeared behind the group who were discussing things.
Everyone turned to look at Cindy who was now holding a slingshot in her hand.
"Wait, how did you get a slingshot like this?" Souichi asked as he grabbed the slingshot that was hastily made. It doesn't seem to be made and sold in stores.
"I can't really fight but perhaps using a slingshot and hitting zombies with rocks works? After all, it can be lethal if we use rocks as projectiles."
Kyosei nodded. "Considering how brittle these zombies are compared to humans, a speeding rock might be a lethal weapon we can use. But we can try that later. For now, we needed to get that big guy down as fast as possible."
Kyosei looked at Cindy and grabbed the slingshot that was currently in Souichi's hands. "We will borrow this one for the time being."
Cindy nodded in response. "Use it as you see fit."
Kyosei glanced at the weapon in his hand and thoroughly examined it. The "Y" shaped metal that is holding the long strip of rubber is clearly from the leftover materials near them. It isn't professionally made and is a bit flimsy considering the handle itself is not something that is good for slingshots, but it can last for a few uses before it breaks. And that is enough. The rubber is also firm enough but he needed to see its performance in launching whatever it was loaded with.
Then, a zombie landed on the ground. Okabe who was going to smash the zombie is immediately prompted by Kyosei. "Don't kill it yet. We will see how this slingshot works."
Grabbing a rock on the floor, Kyosei quickly approaches the zombie that is about to stand up. Without hesitation, Kyosei stepped on its back and prevented it from standing back up. Loading the rock on the makeshift slingshot, Kyosei aimed it at the zombie's head.
With a quick pull of the slingshot, he released the rubber, propelling the stone straight to the zombie.
SQUELCH!
The stone penetrates the skull of the zombie but it isn't deep enough and it only remains visible outside the zombie.
"Guess it wasn't lethal enough but it does work," Kyosei said before stomping on the zombie's head hard enough for him to squash it with his shoes alone.
"Slingshots are lethal in the hands of the right person. Perhaps you aren't that good at it, so the slingshot didn't work or perhaps it was too close that the stone didn't have enough speed to become a lethal projectile," Chie deduced.
"Guess you aren't good at everything huh?" Souichi chuckled.
"What makes you think I would be proficient in everything? I haven't used a slingshot much aside from seeing it being made by a few boys back in middle school."
"If Kyosei is not confident in using the slingshot, how about I give it a shot? I used it a lot back when I was in the States with my dad. He uses a slingshot to hunt in the woods for food and trained me how to use it," Cindy volunteered.
"Are you sure about that? I thought cheerleaders like you are all about being clumsy and useless most of the time?" Souichi bluntly said it.
"Hey, that's rude. If there is anyone who is allowed to be rude, it is only me, four-eyes. But don't generalize other people. Now, if you are confident in sending a grenade towards that hulking zombie throwing at us with zombies, then much better," Kyosei glared at Souichi before handing the slingshot to Cindy.
Souichi can only swallow his saliva after seeing Kyosei's glare. And he also realized what he just said. It was indeed quite rude to generalize the behavior of the usual American cheerleader girl in high school. And although Cindy does remain a cheerleader, she isn't in her homeland, she is in Japan.
As they position in front of the hole, Kyosei is standing beside Cindy to protect her in case a zombie is being hurled at them again.
"You aim the grenade. Once you are ready to release the rubber, tell me so that I can pull the pin. We needed to time it as far as I know, since this kind of grenade has a delay time before it explodes. With how far it will need to travel to that zombie, we needed to ensure it will explode by the time it arrives there."
Cindy nodded, nervous about the task she was given. But she swallowed her nervousness and steeled her nerves. If she fails here, there is a chance they will be dying there. She can't afford to die here.
Leo handed the grenade to Kyosei and the latter loaded it on the slingshot.
"Calm down. You can do this," Miyuki gave her a tap in the back.
As she pulls the rubber, the pounding sound of her heart seems to get stronger.
"I will release it!"
Hearing this, Kyosei pulls the pin of the grenade, and simultaneously, Cindy releases the rubber, shooting the grenade toward the Hurler.
