Chapter 499 - A Transfer Student

"Unfortunately." He grumbled, "Everything went as you expected."

She crossed her arms with a big grin, "See, I'm always right."

 "That isn't helping." He scowled.

"From what I'm seeing, everything's going as I thought so we should be able to handle the rest." She shrugged.

"What will we do about the government officials?" He hesitated.

"Huh, leave that to me." She shrugged, "I've already handed the plans to the mayor."

"The mayor will do as you say?"

"If he wants to retire, then he better do as I say." She wore a sly smile across her face.

The two boys shared a wary expression as she walked back to her room with a satisfied grin.

.....

The door opened as Yuu's voice noted in surprise, "Oh, Hornton! You're here for a visit?"

 "Sort of." Malleus looked around.

Yuu shook his head, "He's still not back yet."

"I see." Malleus muttered with a troubled look.

"Oh? So the dormleader of Diasomnia is here too."

They looked up to find Vil at the door to the lounge as Malleus tilted his head, "I see Schoenheit is present as well."

"You're the second dorm leader to have been here aside from me." Vil sighed.

 "There was another?"

"Riddle was here earlier too." Yuu noted, "Just about every other dormleader except for Octavinelle and Ignihyde."

"Oh? So, Kingscholar came by as well?" Malleus noted curiously.

"Usually he is too lazy to do anything, but he surprised everyone by showing up today." Vil sighed, "It's probably going to rain tomorrow."

"Now, now..." Yuu wore a dry smile on his face, "He just wanted to stop by because Ruggie was there too."

"That's even more unusual!" Vil pointed out in disbelief.

"So everyone came here for him too." Malleus concluded with a pout.

Yuu was surprised! Was Malleus... jealous? He was left a little hesitant at the thought. After all, he has never seen Malleus jealous before. Perhaps a little bit of upset or annoyed or every thrilled, but never jealous. But, what could make him jealous in this situation?

"I heard what happened from Epel and Rook." Vil muttered as they got into the lounge, "It seemed the trip in Fleur City was a little too exciting than we expected. I didn't expect to see someone who has a strong dislike for magic in this age."

"He has his reasons." Malleus huffed, "However, the execution was sloppy."

"Yes. He never accounted that our group would stop him in the end. So, what will happen to him now?"

"The princess of the fairy kingdom took position as headmage of the school through legal means and is the new judge of the council of magic." Malleus sighed, "She has already performed the trial on both the fake headmage and Rollo Flamme."

"That girl from before? I wonder what she has planned..." Vil frowned.

"Will Rollo be okay?" Yuu hesitated.

"Only you would pity the villain." Vil grumbled, "So?"

"It was revealed that the process to select the next headmage of the school also means bearing the mantle as judge of the council of magic and leadership of Fleur City. The city always bore two candidates to the position. As it turns out, however, the two candidates had been the fake headmage and Flamme."

 "What?!"

The two looked to him in disbelief! The two criminals in this case were both candidates to such a high ranked position?!

"But, Rollo is still just a student." Yuu pointed out.

"According to the real former headmage, the decision was made by him and the president. Moreover, Flamme was the grandchild of the former headmage's rival who had a dubious passing. Due to outside intereference to the two candidate and their family, it was declared that the third and last student of the former headmage be made the new headmage and they will decide what needs to be done, Thus, all responsibilities to carry the trials and uphold the duties fell on the princess." Malleus explained.

"Rollo's family?" Yuu questioned in confusion as he placed the tea set and hot water before them.

"Flamme's family was ruined by the actions of outside influence. He lost a younger sibling to a premeditated magic accident and both parents due to the loss. The grandfather, as well, suddenly passed away without any warning." Malleus explained as he picked the pack of tea leaves, "Five years ago, the princess's teacher received the news of what happened to Flamme and hurried back only to be met with a heart attack and fell into a coma. His son, the second candidate, was rejected from all the medical facilities and was forced to rely on suspicious magic artifact to keep his father alive, which was revealed to have all been premeditated by the same third party."

 "And not one person noticed?"

"Both candidates were not made aware of their situation with the candidacy nor of what had occurred making it difficult for them to process together that it was a scheme. Moreover, Flamme had still been a child when this event occurred." Malleus hummed as Yuu prepared the tea.

"Quite a drama in reality. So, who else knows about it?" Vil grumbled.

"Aside from myself, only Professor Trein knows the full story after we resolved it." Malleus leaned back on the counch, "However, Ashengrotto, Shroud, and myself learned of Rollo's backstory from his perspective while we were searching for clues to stop him. Yet, only those two knew of the loss of Flamme's sibling being the spark for the incident. None knew of his parent's demise. I stayed to help present any potential evidence for the flame lotus incident. However, it turns out to have been unnecessary."

"But, what did she decide will happen to Rollo?" Yuu hesitated.

"She already agreed to allow him to continue to be the hero of the incident." Malleus nodded his head as he took up his tea cup, "However, she added more to this after the trial."

 "Oh?"

As Vil and Yuu were on the edge of there seats, Malleus continued after taking a sip, "Rollo Flamme will continue to attend school and take position as the headmage candidate until he is old enough to make his own decision."

Yuu took in a sigh of relief hearing that Rollo would be safe. However, Vil raised a brow, "After he put so many in danger?"

Malleus raised a hand stopping him, "Not necessarily. As our reward for stopping him, she has agreed to allow him to live a lie until he can no longer take it and face the consequences for his actions then. Until then, only the headmage and those who attended the trial know the actual truth. Those who decided to spread the truth with malicious intent will face harsh punishment. This was backed up with the approval of the executive faction of the Council of magic. Until then, he will learn the role directly from the current headmage."

"That's an unusual punishment." Yuu noted in surprise.

"What about the fraud?" Vil frowned.

Malleus took another sip of tea as he continued, "Until things settle down in the city and the school, he will continue to aid the current headmage. However, unlike before when he often left the school grounds, he is not allowed a foot out of the school building or interact with the students and staff without the headmage's permission. In addition, he will continue to work everyday from dawn to dusk, including meals, and all decisions will have to go through the headmage."

"He's basically imprisoned in his own school..." Vil huffed, "The very school he focused so much on. Did he not know he was suppose to govern the city?"

"He did not." Malleus took another sip, "However, that seem to hold no concern for the humans. Thus, the princess boldly made a lenient decision for him."

"Imprisoning him is lenient?" Yuu raised a brow.

"Although I hate to admit it, it seems to be the best option." Vil grumbled as he took a sip of his tea, "If the position of headmage is so important, he is also responsible for the welfare of the city and the students. He should be imprisoned in jail for his ignorance. At this point, it did not matter if he knew his duties or not. He is going to be held accountable for this incident. But, surely, she's not just going to let him stay in the school."

Malleus shook his head, "He's been reduced to a permanent student teacher and would be supervised by a qualified teacher."

"Oh? So, in a sense, he gets to keep his job?" Vil raised his cup.

"Seemingly so." Malleus stated bluntly, "She's chosen our headmage and Professor Trein as the supervisors."

"Pffft!" Vil nearly spat out his tea as he heard this and began coughing.

"He's coming to this school?!" Yuu cried out in disbelief.

"That's right." He nodded, "The princess's reasoning was quite interesting."

"Ahem." Vil grumbled as he took a handkerchief from Yuu, "Explain everything to me in detail."

"You seem quite unsettled, Schoenheit." Malleus scoffed, "Are you perhaps scared?"

"Don't forget we are dorm leaders. The last I'd wish is for the first years to find themselves in a scheme of a criminal." Vil sighed, "Although seeing the situation, I would rather see him for myself after the staffs give their approval."

"Will Lotus be okay?" Yuu hesitated.

"Looks as though you've taken the role of prefect quite well." Vil noted with a praise, "However, seeing as how he's been able to get this far, he'll be okay."

Malleus nodded, "It seems he's been doing quite well. That being said, Flamme will also be transferring to Night Raven College for a few weeks. It would seem the princess have high hopes that the environment of the school will benefit him."

"Just what gave her such an idea?" Vil scowled, "And he will have to go to a dorm as well."

"I wonder if the headmage will be convinced to take him in." Yuu hesitated.

Curious, Malleus became uncertain. The headmage was the easiest to please but the hardest to bring down when it came to serious conversations. Still, if she give some pretty words, perhaps he'd reconsider any sort of refusals he initially had…

"Unless there's any benefit for him, he might not accept it." Vil sighed.

"How cold! I have no interest in exploiting someone who is already struggling."

The jumped in surprise as Crowley entered the room with Grim tucked under his arm.

"Grim! Where were you?" Yuu cried out in surprise, "I've been calling for you for a long time!"

However, Grim only folded his small arms and pouted with a grumbled. Crowley handed him back to Yuu and frowned, "I found him snooping behind the cafeteria. Do keep a closer eye on him."

"Thank you!"

"Also," He turned to them and smiled, "prepare a new room. You're going to get a transfer student in the next couple of days!"

"Huh?!"
