(Modern earth)
....Within a forest.....
The rain fell hard and cold on the foliage covered grounds. The full moon was covered by layers of slow moving dark storm clouds.
Two men still in the rain, sat unmoving atop of a swaying tree.
There eyes were wide open, It was late after midnight yet these men had no thought of sleeping. The rustling of the trees sent shivers running through their skin, as sometimes when the various vegetations moved a diabolical face would move alongside it.
They'd seen 'it's' kind once before, several hours ago when their party consisted of not just the two of them but five other's.
like a sign from hell as soon as they saw 'it' their group of five had trickled down to two.
A day of fun, was what they were seeking when they came into this forest. They, the five had just graduated from their college and sought to make the day special with a lasting memory.
They had no training in survival and where merely inexperienced youngsters seeking thrills.
Everything was fine, in the day. And as night had eventually taken over, the group had set up their various camping tents.
Everyone gathered in the largest camping tent with all of their food and drinks. They told scary stories that frightened the only two girls with them, Olivia and Emelia half to death. They had drunken and spoken half of the night away.
It was ironically Ben, who was the one that had suggested the trip to begin with, who fell to his fate first.
In the need to pee Ben had left the tent and ran behind a tree. Moments later a frail scream had awoken the group of four from their friendly banters.
Believing this to be just a joke Nathan had courageously led the group to where Ben had said he would be.
A disfigured lump of meat, was all the group saw. An arm here, a leg there, ripped, torn, wrenched, Body parts layed around the slightly drizzled with pee ground.
It was right there where they first saw 'it'. Deformed, grotesque, opposite of what should exist, a face of a monster.
Was it a dog? a Human? neither but the same. The face of a man in dog form. The head of 'it' was ugly, but it was still feasible for a person to have. The body was not.
It's entire body was also hairless. It's face was fat like a babies, but it was missing it's nose.
It's cold dead eyes looked sinisterly at all of them, as it started slobbering and shaking. The sign of hell had arrived.
The second to die was Emelia, as she had stared too long and forgot to run like the other three. Her body was torn apart much like that of Ben's. The scariest part was not the bloody scene but, what happened afterwards. More and more of 'It' walked out of the darkness all taking part of the feast, all gurgling and grumbling in delight.
Minutes later Olivia followed her friends path. She was Caught whilst running, the monsters tripped over themselves as they tore her to pieces.
Nathan and Liam had manged to be the only two to survive after seeing these creatures.
After a certain undeterminable amount of time passed by, Nathan and Liam found themselves atop of a large tree.
Rain began to fall with a light drizzle, but then it got heavier. The droplets served as a cold reminder that they were not in any dream.
"What do we do" said Liam, his arms held tightly around the tree, nervous that he'd slip to his death from the rain water.
"How the hell should i know" responded Nathan. He had always been good under pressure, but that was only within school and work. When had he ever been placed in a life and death situation?
Nathan, knew if they stayed atop of this tree for too long then those creatures would eventually find them but what could he do.
"We can't stay up here forever" Liam said the obvious, slightly angering the already on edge Nathan.
"I know we can't but what should we do... If we go down there then those thing's will definitely kill us" said Nathan. He eyed around, trying to find a path that would lead to their safe escape.
Seeing none, the man instinctively checked his pockets, but was reminded by its emptiness that he'd dropped it on the ground while he wae climbing the tree.
Similarly his friend next to him didn't have his phone, as he had neglected to take it out of the tent before they're confrontation by the monster's.
A few minutes passed like this, not knowing what to do to get out of this predicament. More and more heads began to move around the forest. The two stayed still and quiet, hoping that the monsters would pass them by unknowingly.
Nathan's heart almost dropped into his stomach as he heard cleary, the familiar notification ringing of his phone. It had lasted but a moment, but it was enough to draw a crowd.
"You piece of shit" Liam looked at Nathan with demented hatred and cursed. In his momentary hatred he'd forgotten to regulate his voice, alerting the creatures below.
He quickly caught himself. Covering his outspoken mouth with his hand tightly.
This action served no purpose though as one of the round wobbling heads beneath looked up directly into Liam's eye.
Making eye contact the monster looked curiously at Nathan and Liam. a Dry quiet suspense hastend the two's breathes. They stood absolutely still, as if the action would make the creaure move along.
This quiet suspense was immediately replaced with a chilly fear as the curious face of the monster was replaced with a wide grin.
Nathan saw the creature lean back and open it's jaws and screamed a human scream, a fact that further added to the creatures creepiness.
More and more human dogs arrived around the tree as they heard the yell. They all gurgled and pounced on the tree as they saw some of their friends starting to climb it.
" haaaah" one of the monsters managed to climb faster then the rest and grasped Liam's feet between its teeth.
"Nathan help" was all he managed to say but it was too late, his body was violently pulled down, hitting the ground with a violent thump that drew blood from his mouth.
With sickening squelches and slurps creatures after creatures forgot about the still 'safe' Nathan and jumped onto the other fallen boy.
Liam's screams quickly eased into a horrifying silence.
Nathan, still atop of the tree stared down in despair. Hope left his eyes as tears dropped from his eyes like a child. As if the creatures found it amusing screeches filled with delight echoed amongst the lot of them.
Time slowly passed and after the creatures had finished devouring Liam, they once again resumed climbing the tree.
Nathan, fell silent . Within these last few minutes he had thoroughly cried his eyes out. Now as more and more creatures climbed towards him his once despairing silence turned into bone deep rage. 'I'm not going to die... I'm definitely not dying". He promised to himself
