Murder Mystery Episode - Part 1
It was chaos.
The first few moments of them taking the corpse of their now deceased principal was one that Kenny would never forget. The paramedics, or whatever they were, had clearly been called on site by the police- investigation had completely ruled out any of the students present seeing as they arrived long after the principal's death... She had been, apparently, stabbed in the heart! 'It can't be.' His mind flashed back to that moment, the moment he saw his maybe boyfriend looming in the shadows like he normally did, but hiding away something that glinted silver, something that had red on it. 'He would never do such a thing, right?' Kenny felt almost, kinda, like 80% sure Garren wouldn't kill the principal- That's ridiculous!
He also didn't say anything about possibly seeing such a thing.
So, when Garren appeared once more from the crowd of students he certainly wasn't in a few moments prior, he didn't react quite as surprised as he felt- why? Well, he was walking towards them with his usual punk attire, but he looked a bit different? 'Oh, he's taller?' Maybe not, but Kenny felt smaller next to him- and he wasn't the only one, seeing as Larry also seemed to take a step back as Garren got closer. His dark hair, his bright green eyes, his surprisingly muscular body that really didn't look like it belonged on a teenager (he, on contrary, looked like a noodle) but instead a bodybuilder or a guy who regularly goes to the gym. Kenny had to stop thinking about his muscles as the big man stopped right before him: "Hi, Ga-" His voice was suddenly muffled by the fact that his maybe boyfriend pulled him into a hug, silencing him.
"I was worried." Were the three first words that came out of his beautiful, kissable mouth- they were said with such sincerity, that he felt like an asshole for ever doubting that Garren was a good person! The hug lasted for a good few moments, with Kenny in heaven as his face was mushed by muscular pecs that he could see himself drooling over, only to be brought back to reality as he was allowed to breathe in air that didn't smell like a weirdly familiar cologne: "I'm glad you're okay, I'm glad you're safe." There was a glint of something in his eyes for just a split second that Kenny might have just imagined, because soon enough he was looking at him with a rather intense look: "You are okay, right?"
"Uhm, yes?" Maybe he was worried for him- he knows his mother would be, much more worried than Garren is right now, but the way in which he asked sounded like something was supposed to happen, but didn't: "I-uh, I'm just... shocked that the principal's dead?" What else was he supposed to say? 'Oh hey, I think I saw you walk away with a knife with blood? Did you kill our principal?' Of course he wouldn't say that! Garren hasn't shown any signs of being a psychopath or a murderer, so he should at least give him the principle of the doubt, right? "Well, uh, you're okay, right?" He asked, trying to drive his thoughts away from thinking that his maybe boyfriend was, maybe, a cold blooded killer.
"I'm fine." He said almost dismissive, like he didn't even have to think about his answer: "Everything's gonna be okay now, don't worry... Nothin' will ever happen to you..." Although that sounded ominous and slightly threatening, it also sounded kinda sweet? Kenny felt a blush slowly come over his face for a moment as thoughts of unsavory things filled his mind for a few moments in a true teenager fashion, only for a metaphorical cold bucket of water to dropped on his head as his forgotten best friend suddenly said from the sideline-
"Uhhhh, guys?"
-making both he and Garren snap out of their moment. Garren glared at Larry with an intensity that would have set him on fire if he was Superman, but seeing as Garren wasn't Clark Kent all it did was make Larry take a step back: "Sorry, sorry- Its, uh, we're kinda bein' sent home? My dad, he will, shit, he will be here in, uh, a few minutes? I was, well, uhm, I was going to ask if you want a ride?" In typical Larry fashion, the boy stumbled on his words a few times- but instead of being nervous because he was talking to a girl, he was nervous because of the sheer intense and kinda hostile and menacing aura that was emanating from Garren. "Sorry." He apologized again, just to be sure.
"Uh, okay- sure, okay." Kenny, a bit uncomfortable, pushed Garren back- he felt like he was trying to push a brick wall, he wouldn't move at all. Looming above him like a big shadow that although made him feel weirdly protected, it also made him feel the looks they were receiving: "Garren, people are looking..." He didn't know exactly how Garren would react to people knowing about the two of them, but he knew that people would not approve of him in a relationship with anyone at all, but Garren? Mysterious, brooding hottie who everyone wanted a piece of, be it to know or to fuck? With weirdo nerdy fucker chess club president Kenny? The lowest of losers out there?
He doesn't want to make him ashamed of whatever they are‐
"Let them." Two words, two simple words that made Kenny's entire body light up. He felt like he was on cloud nine for a few moments, and then Garren looked down at him with an undecipherable look on his face that was almost nostalgic... It reminded him of the way his dad would look at his mom whenever they would talk about their dating days, all sweet, all reminiscent, all nostalgia. "Don't stop shining, little light."
Where... where did he hear that before?
———
The ride to his home was a bit awkward.
Garren would not leave his side. He looked tense, almost like expected something to go wrong or somebody to get hurt... And, well, their principal was killed, so he understood that anxiety. So, when he got home and said bye to Larry at their driveway, he entered his home- only to feel more than see the shadow that loomed behind him.
His mother, however, did see him.
"Oh, Kenny!" She came rushing towards him with her arms open, pulling him into a tight hug: "Your father and I heard about what happened to your principal- I knew she was involved in something illegal! But do they ever listen to the woman? Nevar!" She cooed over her son a bit more before noticing the young man behind him, looming above him like a statue. Watching silently. "Oh, Kenny, who is your friend- Oh, please, where are my manners- Do come in, please." Garren didn't even think about it, he stepped forward and did something that confused him; He gave his mother flowers. "Oh, how lovely. Thank you."
The thing is, he didn't see him with flowers before he was giving them to his mother.
"I apologize deeply for my lack of manners and my foolish behavior, Mistress of the House, but I must away-" He paused, making Kenny wonder, for a moment, why did his "maybe" boyfriend suddenly started to speak with such a clear Nigerian accent out of a sudden? He had never seen Garren speak like that, ever, but there was a look jn his mother's eyes that he caught at the edge of his vision that Garren also seemed to see, because he took a step back and apologized again: "Sorry, I meant to say that I just came here to bring Kenny back home safely... I will be going now." He turned to look at him, their eyes met and Kenny felt this rush of warmth cover his entire body head to toe, as if he was blushing and being hugged at the very same time. "Until later, Ken."
With that said, he stepped away and left- Immediately, he was pulled inside by his arm with his mother looking at the departing Garren with barely concealed something... He didn't see that look very often, but it was given to his father a few times when she was confused about something he said or did, seeing as his dad was a little bit weird sometimes. Like him... Like father, like son it seems.
"That boy, who is he?" The intense push on the word "who" made Kenny blink, confused and say: "Uhm, Garren? Garren Maverick? He moved in recently and, uhm-" Trying to hide the awkwardness and the sheer amount of fear and dread that overcame his senses at the very thought of his mother figuring out they were dating was almost like a thunderbolt right to the head: "-friends. Me, him, and Larry! Turns out he is also a bit of a loser, like me." He looked away, trying to act natural as best as he could and immediately tried to go upstairs while saying: "Well, I will see if I have some poetry I didn't finish writing or a homework I left undone to finish later-" His steps, however, froze as he heard his mother asking him a single question.
"Kenny, is there something you wanna tell me?"
And his whole world felt like it was pressing on him- Tension rose through the ceiling at the question, he could basically feel the need to open his mouth and say something, everything. How he was gay, how he was kinda in a romantic relationship with Garren, how he was afraid that it wasn't a relationship at all but instead a temporary fling, how scared he was that he was so deeply in love with a boy he never met before he moved in and yet felt like he knew him his whole life, about the fact that he saw Garren holding a silver knife gleaming with blood after the Principal was dead, how he felt weirdly afraid yet protected by Garren's presence and how it freaked him the fuck out, and so many things he couldn't even put to words!
Instead he just said: "Uhm, no? I don't think so mother." And continued to go upstairs, seemingly unbothered but sweating cold buckets. Unseen to him, his mother safely tugged something in her pocket- an invisible, paper thin and almost invisible light surrounded his retreating form for just a moment before it vanished.
She sighed- at least the seal was still there.
Now, what has his son attracted to himself now, and how can she get rid of it...?
———
Garren sprayed his back against his bed, the shadows at the wall waving and swaying like leaves in the wind. His mind cracked at the spell that had been placed on him the moment he tried to enter the Kenny household, immediately being forced to leave while also speaking in a random accent he heard before. It was quite the potent Ward because it forced the brain to think in a different way by speaking in a way you never did before, switching up the accent also makes so your spells have a higher chance to backfire, since if you practice spells in a specific language speaking in a specific way, fucking it up will definitely fuck up any normal spellcaster.
Imagine being a witch and speaking Latin with a Australian accent? That would fuck up your spells big time!
'And, gone!' With a cough and a spit, a small blue crystal fell from his open mouth. It was the spell, in its crystallized form- he thought he could do it, and doing it in front of an audience like he is doing now adds to the suspense and mystery. Why did he spat out a small blue crystal? Why did he speak in an Nigerian accent and immediately stopped, only to go home and spit out said crystal?
