On the island stood a colossal metal humanoid statue with its head nearly touching the rock layer above, and no one knew who had constructed such an almost miraculous thing.
Although the island seemed to be cursed, with no one living past the age of 47, the rich iron resources were too tempting for anyone to refuse.
So the initial explorers settled in and began to cut and sell the metal from the statue.
This went on for over four hundred years, and now only half of the massive statue remained.
Most of the construction and materials for Earth Sea's steamboats came from Iron Statue Island and Volcanic Island, making this giant sculpture enormously significant to the shipbuilding industry of Earth Sea.
