Chapter 25 - True evolution

Grey walked away from the otter letting him bleed out in the rain. But he didn't make it far before he fell his thigh was in great pain for some reason.

Grey looked at his leg only to find the scratch was turning green slowly. "Crap" was all grey could think to say.

Grey started to search his bag in panic for anything that can help with the venom.

He stopped for a moment then he slowly pulled out a rainbow potion "I remember you your the evolution potion that painfully enhances the body and bloodline… welp here goes nothing." Before grey just chugged the bottle down in one go.

Grey felt nothing for a few seconds before it felt like his blood stopped moving. He curled up into a ball aginst a nearby tree. "Hahaha it seems like the venom is also numbing my pain how ironic." Grey mocked still feeling some pain

It still poring hard and the swamp was eerily quiet the only sounds was that of a rabbit breathing heavy in the heavy rain.

Grey opened his eyes In great pain as it felt like his fur being ripped off, he looked up towards the sky for some sort of comfort only to find a red eye with wings staring him down silently.

"Nah another useless weak beast, tell me DO you know of a powerful beast with red eyes in this swamp!" It said its voice commanding and eye glowing in a hypnotic spiral.

Grey just let out a weak pained voice "just you"

"Hmmph, at least you know your place weakling." It said before flying off

Sat in pain by the tree for another hour before waking up in heap what looked like old skin and fur drowned in black goo.

He looked himself over he didn't look all that different maybe slightly bigger but there was this strange feeling deep inside he couldn't understand or explain.

The rain only seemed to get stronger since he evolved. He continued to run north but his speed seemed fast and he felt so much stronger now that he was actively moving he jumped out the mid lading on the trunk a of standing tree only use it to jump into the tree lines.

Only now did he notice how foreign this power felt and how sensitive he was now. He felt even colder then he should have in this weather.

Grey tried using his sensitive ears like what remembered the bat doing.

A personal clear image of the surrounding was shown in his mind through the sounds he picked up it felt like a radar sensor that was amplified by the rain and his new body.

He could see everything all around him as if he was right there staring.

He could see the otter far back slowly bleeding out, the eyeball frantically searching the swamp while swearing and the worms all over enjoying the weather.

He soon found a small mountain at the center of the storm that lead to the misty hill.

"Hmm, this mountain is the fastest way with all the caves but it seems many thing live there. I'll just deal with it as it comes if it's a problem." Grey said before rushing towards the center of the storm.

The lightning and rain was so heavy that grey could see lightning every few seconds illuminating his path ahead.

Grey jumped from the tree lines and into a small hole on the side of the mountain that lead to all kinds of other caves.

The moment grey entered the cave system he felt a difference unlike in the rain he didn't have his nearly Omni sight here. He could only see as far as his sound reached unfortunately there were bats and rats everywhere so any loud noise would attract attention.

He stayed by entrance slowly vibrating his body to warm up and shake off all the water on his fur. Slowly creating steam all around him as he rested.

A stray lightning bolt hit a tree nearby causing it to fall onto the mountain.

Grey just watched the tree fall knocked rock down and blocking his only escape with wood and stone. "Just my luck, it feels more like I awakened the rune of unluck, since the moment I got a rune everything has been going south."

Few minutes earlier a strange shadow was laying in the darkness too tired to move and ready to just give up. But in its emerald eyes it saw a bit of heated mist coming from a nearby tunnel "a way out?" It said in a alluring feminine voice.

She slowly started sinking into the shadows below her without a trace.

Grey released a low hum which allowed to barley see four meters around him. Which in a pitch black cave was better than running blind.

After adjusting his hum so the bats wouldn't hear him and resting a bit he started to walk through the tunnels.

He didn't get very far before a alluring voice came from behind him. "Did you block off the exit to the outside? Answer carefully or you'll be a ssssnack." The voice came out soft but commanding.

Grey quickly turned to look at the voice coming from the walls which confused grey but he answered quickly realizing he was out classed. "No I did not, it was sealed by the storm outside; But I do know a way out so I can be your guide if you don't eat me?" Grey was hope to reason with the voice.

A pair of glowing vertical emerald eyes opened in the wall staring at him. "I have been ssstarving for several monthsss now if you can provide me with enough food to calm my hunger I promise to guard you until we leave this cave."

Grey heard no deceit or malice in her voice only hope and pain

"I have berries but if you perfer meat I only have one question which do you perfer rats or bats?" Grey asked carefully.

"Bah, batsss are just ratss with wings" she said as a long snake came out the shadows elegantly "but everything here lives in groups or hides really well." She said worried.

Grey smiled at her he could only make out the vague image of her snake figure. He could also hear the worry in her voice 'she probably has been here for a while trying to escape this dark empty caves but got lost' grey thought to himself.

"Then we just have to make a group of our own, I was know as a great track back in my village before awakening and know even darkness can't blind me." Grey tried to puff out his chest to fake confidence.

"You look like someone who is extremely lazy and laid back?" She asked.

Grey laughed nervously "you need to be talented to be lazy without others bothering you." Grey said as a matter of fact.

She just smiled revealing her fangs. "Hahaha I think we are going to get along great my name is Jade. As long as you feed me I will protect you."

Seeing her laugh was mesmerizing for grey "um.. thanks the name is grey, I can't cook for you but I can hunt pretty well."
