Chapter 82 - Floor 80 — Line in the Ice

🧭 United Resolve

Standing above the gala hall, the entire island locked in a sinister grid of artificial order, Izuku Midoriya crouched beside the thick viewing glass. Below, All Might, bound but unbroken, stood in the spotlight of the hostage room.

"Jirou," Izuku whispered, turning slightly.

Kyoka Jirou, earbuds already plugged into the floor, gave a quick nod. "Go ahead."

Izuku leaned down, voice steady. "All Might. It's us—your students. We're going to disable the system. Once it's down... It's your turn."

A pause. Then, through the faint static of the speaker system, a deep, resonant voice returned.

"I trust you, Young Midoriya… All of you."

Jirou blinked. "He approves."

...

🧬 The Argument

But not everyone agreed. As the group prepared to ascend, Izuku turned to Melissa, nervous tension in his voice.

"You should stay here."

Melissa's eyes widened. "What?"

"You're Quirkless," Izuku said, guilt-ridden. "If something happens, we can't protect you—"

Melissa stepped forward. "And only I can hack into the central server. If I don't come, then no one gets saved. I'm going, Midoriya. I want to protect everyone, too."

Izuku paused, staring at her—at her courage, her defiance, and her unwavering heart. The same look he saw in himself when All Might chose him.

"...Then I'll be relying on you, Melissa."

🧗‍♂️ The Climb — 80 Floors Later…

Through emergency stairwells, ventilation shafts, and labyrinthine service corridors, the students surged upward. Hearts pounding. Sweat is clinging to skin. The 80th floor was in sight. But the metallic groan of a massive shutter slamming down cut them off.

Red lights bathed the corridor.Security drones hummed to life.

"Kuro," Yaoyorozu whispered, panic rising, "there's no other way!"

Kuro stood still. Calm. Then he smiled.

"…Then we go through."

He turned, opened the door to the main floor section, and immediately, security alarms blared. Red floodlights pulsed like a heartbeat.

...

⚔️ Tactical Divide

In a cold, mechanical chamber deeper in the tower, Wolfram, calmly watching the radar pings, grinned beneath his mask.

"Movement on 80. Send a strike team."

Meanwhile—

Todoroki extended his left hand, an immense frost spiraling outward. With precise control, he froze one of the shutters just before it fully closed.

"Move!" he shouted.

The infiltration team dashed through. Iida nodded, shouting over his shoulder, "Kuro! Todoroki! Be safe!"

Yaoyorozu hesitated. "If it looks bad—run."

Kuro's cheerful grin never faded. "You guys worry too much."

Then the door sealed shut, the sound echoing like a vault locking behind them.

❄️ Floor 80 — Hold the Line

Now alone, Kuro and Todoroki stood in an increasingly cold corridor. The air fogged with every breath. Steel frosted over.

"Just us now," Kuro said, casually rolling his shoulders.

Todoroki stood tall, arms folded. "I've trained harder than ever. You're not going to outpace me again."

"Oh?" Kuro grinned, energy flickering around him like embers. A warm purple aura danced around his skin, crackling against the biting cold. His eyes lit with violet fire, pupils glowing brighter as the tension rose.

"I love when people are confident—it makes beating them feel like a power-up cutscene."

"That cockiness won't help," Todoroki murmured as he unleashed a torrent of cold air, freezing the corridor floor into polished ice. Every step now dangerous, every movement requiring control.

🚨 Incoming Threat

Gunfire and footsteps echoed through the hall as red-laser sights painted the frost-covered walls.

"They're close," Kuro muttered, floating just inches off the floor to stay nimble.

"They'll be on us in seconds," Todoroki said.

"Good," Kuro smirked, both hands lighting with pure Ki. "I was starting to get bored. Let's make some noise."

Todoroki's right hand lit with fire.

Kuro floated into the air, his hair waving in the gravity-defying energy surrounding him. He pressed his palms together, energy condensing like a star forming in his grip.

"This is Floor 80…" he said, voice rising, "Where we hold the line."

🌿 The Plant Factory Ambush

🧭 Marching Onward

The group advanced with a cautious but steady pace, stepping over catwalks and through sterile white corridors laced with artificial vines and hydroponic systems humming in quiet harmony. Overhead, the dim green glow of the Plant Factory's grow-lamps cast eerie shadows along the steel walls.

"Todoroki and Kuro…" Iida began, his voice low but earnest, cutting through the quiet tension. "They're among the most promising heroes I've ever encountered. If they can't hold off those villains… then I doubt I could either."

Denki Kaminari, walking just ahead, turned around with a sly grin. "Whoa, Iida. That almost sounded like nervous humility.""Are you reassuring us or yourself?" he teased.

Iida sighed. "Perhaps both."

Kyoka Jirou rolled her eyes. "Can we just focus? Where are we, anyway?"

Ochaco Uraraka pointed to a sign overhead—its letters slightly tilted and the lights flickering."Plant Factory."The space matched its name: corridors veined with tubes carrying nutrient-rich fluid to towering columns of genetically-modified greenery, oxygen compressors lining the corners, and white maintenance robots frozen mid-task.

Mineta shivered as he stared up at the tall stalks and twisting vines. "Yep… definitely a factory of plants… and definitely horror-movie material."
