Once, I read a very interesting story.
There was a city where residents, regardless of status, were all utterly addicted to horse racing. The local gang made profits by manipulating the races. Once, a veterinarian responsible for injecting the horses with drugs shared a secret and the name of the horse that would win the next race with his lover. The lover told her best friend, the best friend told a brothel madam, the madam told a doorman, the doorman told... Eventually, a middle-aged man in financial straits learned the secret. Desperate for a large sum of money, he wagered all his remaining assets and borrowed money from loan sharks, betting everything on the horse guaranteed to win, hoping to change his fate and protect his family.
That horse did not win.
Before crossing the finish line, the horse collapsed and died suddenly.
