The world was watching when the royal family went to the David Handhoff trial. Caroline had happily told her sisters that it had been dubbed the Faux King trial. Lucia thought it was clever, but she wondered how that affected her uncle's family.
They had not had a great time. It had become very apparent to them now, if they had not known before, that they were neither liked nor loved.
Sure, there were people who felt sorry for them because the children should not be persecuted for their father's sins, but others said that they were grown up and could have moved away from the man. Lucia thought that the latter argument was nonsensical.
She remembered when her father had been exiled. She had loved him and believed him even when the world had persecuted him. She could never have abandoned her father. He was her dad. She loved him, and he loved her. But then again, he was a genuinely good man, so maybe if her uncle had been her father, she would have moved away from him.
