Lance stepped forward to push the door of the dream office of many in the company, and held it for Alex and Sharon.
Alex looked around. The place was clean, well-ordered, and kept simple, with only a few personal touches to it. He looked at the desk where his mother usually sat, then walked toward the seating area.
He unbuttoned his suit and let himself plunge into the softness of the sofa, before he looked at Lance who was smiling at his behavior.
"Go call Leyna here."
After that, he stopped caring about the jokester and held his hand out toward Sharon:
"The laptop."
Sharon took the computer out of its bag as she looked at Lance's departing figure, faint curiosity swirling within her blue eyes.
Alex connected himself to the network of the building, then busied himself, his fingers flying over the keyboard in a way that pulled the blonde's attention. His proficiency surprised her, because that was beyond the level of someone simply used to using a keyboard, to playing with a computer.
As she wondered, the door was opened again. She turned to see Lance holding the door for a dark-haired woman before he came in after her. She was beautiful, with her smooth hair gathered in a ponytail at the back, the impeccable discipline of all the strands lending even more sharpness to her look, despite the smile softening it.
She was elegantly dressed, with an intellectual maturity Sharon found herself unable to compare to. She was beautiful, had a figure most women would envy, and looked successful. Seeing her in a skirt and suit, with high heels at her feet, she finally understood why she had been found lacking by Alex, and why he had had her look revamped. It was not just the price of the clothes that mattered, it was the way they were on her.
Leyna approached with elegant steps, and a smile. She glanced at the blonde at the side, then returned her eyes to Alex, meeting his gaze.
"Mister Chairman, you have come."
Alex glared at the amused mature woman, and turned to Sharon:
"This is the right-hand woman of the tyrant in my family. She will help you acclimate yourself to the job."
"Really, a tyrant?"
The amusement in Leyna's smile deepened, and she tilted her head to the side slightly, showing a familiarity that Sharon did not miss.
Alex lowered his head back to the computer to continue typing while retorting:
"What else? Isn't forcing me on this seat an act of tyranny in and of itself?"
Leyna let out a soft laugh:
"Aren't you afraid I will tattle on you? I would be happy to relay your words to her."
"Yeah, I'm sure you really would be. But if you dare, let's see if I will still help you get married."
"What? Have you found a husband for me already?"
Leyna was being playful, but Alex nodded, seemingly serious, while Lance pricked his ears for the incoming gossip:
"Yes, I found someone for you, and he works where we will be going in a few hours."
Leyna raised an eyebrow, a little taken aback. Considering that they would be going to the hospital soon, she deduced:
"A doctor?"
But Alex shook his head:
"Rather, a genius. Well learned, with a good character and good prospects. His only flaw is that he is not me, though he is about half as handsome as I am."
Lance open his eyes wide in shock, and asked:
"Whoa, narcissism at its finest! Alex, are you talking about Gawain? With big sister Leyna!?!"
Alex dismissively glanced at Lance, and added as he looked at the smiling black-haired beauty:
"At least, he is more handsome than Lance."
The man winced at the attack:
"Man, that is personal."
"Then don't take it personally."
The deadpan retort had two women stifling a laugh, the oldest to avoid aggravating Lance too much, while the blonde, to be more discreet as the unfamiliar one in the group.
After a moment, Leyna restrained her smile, and with an exhale, focused on business:
"Alright, why did you call me, Alex? I still need to finish dealing with things before my demotion notice comes."
Alex took his fingers off the keyboard with an eye roll and leaned back into the sofa. He pointed a hand at the blonde on the side:
"This is the assistant I found for myself. As I said, I need you to help her find her bearings. No need to go easy on her. If she can't prove herself to be up to the task, it will be good to know sooner rather than later."
Leyna glanced at the blonde with interest, before returning her gaze to Alex with a smile:
"Alright, I understand. Anything else?"
"Yes."
Alex snapped his finger, and resumed working on the laptop before him as he spoke:
"I will send you something soon. Have the IT department integrate it to the system of the Group, then call the directors and the executives for a meeting in half an hour."
Leyna didn't ask about what Alex would send to her. She was experienced enough not to focus on what her superior had not found necessary to give details on, unless that would make it impossible for her to competently accomplish the task being given. Instead, it was the second part of the instructions which amused her.
She looked at Alex with a speechless smile:
"The ones you are asking me to call will be angry. They have spent the day expecting you."
"I appreciate their dedication. They should keep it up."
Despite her composure, one modelled after the most unflappable woman she had ever known, Leyna's twitched. She didn't know what to say at those words that seemed all the more sarcastic because of the perfunctory sincerity they were carrying.
With his head down, Alex gave another order, targeting the only other man in the room this time:
"Lance, go with big sis. Help her move her things later."
Lance glanced at the mature, black-haired beauty, and readily agreed:
"Understood."
Leyna smiled without trying to refuse. She was mature enough to avoid endeavors that would not bear fruit at all. She nodded at Lance, then smiled at Sharon:
"Let's go."
