This work will follow along with the Book series, A song of Ice and Fire and will, and for the most part, stray away from the content shown in the series - unless and until I deem it fit for it to be framed as such.
A song of Ice and Fire belongs to GRR Martin, and through this work I do not intend to demean his work or take any credit for the type of worldbuilding he has done in the work. This is merely a fanfic that will explore one of many ideas that I have bubbling inside my head.
Let me address the warnings firsthand.
- This is not a fairytale and not the generic work. A song of ice and fire takes heavy inspiration from real history and strays away from typical heroic fantasies. Although I will try to do the same, I cannot hope to match the same finesse that Martin has done through his works. And do permit to say that this is, in the end, a webnovel with a very much developing author. I might not be able to follow through with many of the things I promise here in this disclaimer but I will try with the best of my abilities.
- Do not expect everything to be spelled out for you. Things will be obvious in hindsight of course, but I will try not to outright say things and leave them up for interpretation as I think that leaves a better mark on the reader's mind. I will use symbolism and metaphors throughout the work - or at least to the point where my own brain will allow me to think. And politics need to be understood when dealing with such a work.
- Do not expect the MC to steam roll through everything. The change will be gradual and will come with time. Although a heavy focus of this work will be the MC's speciality and how much of an edge he can gain over the other players in the Seven Kingdoms and just how powerful he is with the things I have provided him, it stands to reason that MC can mess up sometimes. If that happens, be rational and act like an adult. Please don't throw a tantrum about it.
- Dark and gritty themes that ASOIAF is famous for will of course be prevalent in this story. Though they will not be the main focus - at least I think as of writing this disclaimer - and will merely linger in the background.
- If I get any facts wrong, or things that were glaringly obvious were missed by me, do make sure to let me know in a civilised fashion. Do not jump into the reviews section to make a 1 star review about this obscure fic just because the author got one detail wrong about a series spread out among 5 different books and multiple other works that feature history in the verse.
- Side characters will be a major theme in the work. Their plot lines will be followed and featured quite heavily, sort of like a frankenstein's monster between the style that the books adopt and the typical webnovel fashion of following a single main lead. In a similar fashion, I will try to write this novel in a fashion similar to the books, with minimalistic sentences conveying the appropriate information. Though the webnovel pizzaz will still be there as I cannot grow out of it. If you don't like me following along with the side cast or don't like the fact that the author dared to follow anyone else than the person you wanted to follow as if the world revolves around them, this is not for you.
I would also like to add that I have not read the books in a long time(2016); and have forgotten most of it. I am re-reading them through the process of writing this.
- If the mc acts dumb or makes subpar decisions(though I kind of covered this part on the other section), a part of the reason might be my own stupidity. I am a human too, and I hope you understand I can make mistakes while writing. I cannot claim to be a genius in politics or matters of warfare or logistics- but I realize that the matters of at least medieval lordship consist of a lot of seemingly obvious facts.
I will go so far as to say a normal man with somewhat above average IQ could manage a fief. Of course, managing and flourishing are two very different things. But as I said, I am no genius, and some things might be illogical. I would appreciate it if you could make me aware of such things and provide the necessary information so such things will not happen.
I will not drag this along more than I already have.
So, at the end, I do hope you enjoy my work if you so decide to read it.
Cheers!
