Chapter 68 - Chapter 64: Kai vs Hisoka Part 2

Hisoka throws his Bungee Gum from both arms towards the ring, but this time he targets two flagstones, pulling them off the floor and starting to rotate them with his great strength as if they were propellers before launching them towards the audience in opposite directions.

Kai quickly uses his Barrage Orb to obliterate the flying flagstones with two barrages of aura projectiles, but Hisoka is already on the move, taking advantage of Kai's limited attention span to close the distance between the two and attempt to slash Kai's neck with one of his cards.

Although Kai lacks the space to dodge the attack, he manages to block it with his forearm, suffering a deep cut despite his strong Nen defense and using his other arm with a hand like claw to attempt to slash Hisoka back. Hisoka dodges the blow by jumping into the air and propelling himself back towards the stands with the contraction of his Bungee Gum.

Once in position, he throws several of his knife-like cards in the direction of several defenseless people, but before they hit their targets, they are hit along with him by a barrage of Nen projectiles. Recovering from the damage caused by the unexpected attack, Hisoka sticks to one of the walls as he watches a circular portal appear right in front of the stands, shifting his gaze to the ring to see that same portal in front of Kai and his Barrage Orb.

Cocco excitedly comments as Kai jumps in Hisoka direction, looking to confront him.

'Teleportation? No, that's not it. What that ability does is open a hole in space that connects two distant points.' Hisoka thinks as he propels himself through the air to try to distance himself from a pursuing Kai.

'Using an ability like that, he could quickly catch me from anywhere in the stadium to prevent me from attacking people. But instead, he chases me around, trying to overwhelm me with his attacks so I don't have time to exploit his weakness.'

'That makes sense, as such a powerful spacial Hatsu has to be tied to having several requirements or activation conditions that prevent it from being used frequently:'

'1. There are certain specific conditions to be able to activate that Hatsu that have not been met until now.'

'2. There is a limit to the number of times he can use that ability.'

'3. He was keeping it hidden so he could sneak attack me to end the fight, but he was forced to use it to save those people from my assault.'

'4. Even now he is trying to keep as much of his power hidden as he can so that people watching us won't know about his abilities, even if it means putting himself in danger against me.'

'Options 2, 3, and 4 would make sense, but option 1 seems unlikely to me, since the situation at that time has occurred in other moments too, and if the conditions had been met earlier there would have been better times to use that ability.'

'This is getting extremely troublesome. All the options complicate the fight, but option 4 specifically makes me even more eager to make Kai reveal all the aces ups his sleeve to break him after. It's so exciting that I can't contain myself!'

As Hisoka sinks deeper and deeper into a sea of depraved pleasure and violence that this match is bringing him, he and Kai continue their confrontation in mid-air, with the crowd watching in awe as the battle rages on, the intensity of the fighters collisions and the fear of possible death creating a tangible pressure in the stadium that barely lets them breathe.

On the fighters's side: Kai heart is pounding with a mix of excitement and fear as he propels himself with his Nen platforms to try to attack Hisoka and keep the spectators safe, his mind racing as he searches for an opening or a way to turn the tide in his favor.

Hisoka, by his part, continues dodging and maneuvering around him with fluid and graceful uses of his Bungee Gum, his predatory smile never leaving his face as he also keeps trying to create openings in Kai defenses.

Both continue at this pace for several minutes, gliding above and through the audience with their powers while they continue fighting in pursuit of achieving their objectives. In an instance, with a flick of his wrist, Hisoka sends a set of playing cards razor-sharp and infused with his Nen flying toward several people on the stands, and Kai fastly gets in the middle, using his orb to create a protective barrier and block the attack.

"Is that the best you can do?!" Hisoka sneers, flicking his wrist to send several strands of Bungee Gum snapping toward other spectators and trying to throw them together at Kai as a hammer.

As the audience members run out of the way, Kai lets himself being hit by the group of people stuck together that Hisoka swings around, using his Barrier Orb to envelop the people and nullify the impact of the blow on them while he exerts his Ren at full power to withstand the blow, which sends him skidding across the floor of the stands until he finally stops dead.

At the end of the destroyed road, Kai stands holding the involved civilians tightly with his orb, and despite them being mostly unharmed, Kai is spitting blood and has a couple of broken bones despite having used his Ren.

"That guy is crazy! If you hadn't risked catching us, we'd be now a mess of minced meat. Seriously, Kai, thank you so much for saving us." One of the people stuck together says to Kai.

"Don't thank me yet." Kai says pulling with all his strength on the people stuck by Hisoka's Bungee Gum, surprising him and the rest as he tries to use Hisoka's own Nen ability to swing him through the air and try to slam him against one of the walls of the stands.

Hisoka, anticipating Kai's plan, breaks free from the Bungee Gum attached to the five civilians he tried to use as human hammers, avoiding the collision and instead being launched into the air. Kai quickly takes note of this, and freeing the people involved from his orb, he jumps straight in Hisoka's direction.

Seeing Kai approaching again, Hisoka again uses a strand of Bungee Gum to move out of his way, but before he can create another one to move elsewhere, Kai places at a few meters in front of him, leaning on one of his Nen platforms and with his palms open in his direction.

'I dedicate this one to you, Zeno.' Kai thinks triumphantly as he fires a large blast of aura from his palms that hits Hisoka squarely, covering a large part of the air area and sending him crashing back into the ring, breaking the floor as he slides across it until he regains his footing.

Staggering badly injured despite using his Ren, Hisoka watches as Kai once again lunges at him from the air with murderous intent, so this time he decides to fire his Bungee Gum at him, but Kai dodges it by bouncing off his Nen platform, placing himself right above Hisoka and bouncing back against Hisoka to throw a punch with all his might, taking advantage of his Ko and the momentum of his propulsion to increase its power.

Hisoka manages to narrowly dodge the attack by jumping to the side, but the impact of the collision is so powerful that it not only destroys most of the ring's flagstones, but also causes a small tremor that can be felt by the people attending the stadium at the same time a cloud of dust and debris rises from the site of impact, hiding both fighters from the anxious gazes of the spectators inside and outside the tower.

"T-That was amazing. I never imagined a human could pull off a strike that powerful." Zushi, who is sitting next to Wing in the stands, says with his eyes and mouth wide open in awe.

"No Zushi, you are mistaken." Wing replies, earning Zushi's look as he clenches his trembling fists. "The fighters fighting in the ring right now are no longer human, but monsters beyond reason."

With that said, the two of them return their nervous and expectant gazes to the cloudy ring along with the rest of the audience.

Cocco comments, watching the dust cloud above the ring with all the other spectators.

As the dust settles, Kai and Hisoka are revealed standing in front of each other, both very dirty, battered and bruised. Hisoka's arms are covered in bruises from Kai's relentless punches and kicks, his tattered clothes have several blood stains all over them, and he has several broken bones from Kai's countless attacks throughout the fight, including the large aura blast Kai launched at him just now.

Kai, for his part, is even worse off, as in addition to enduring Hisoka's relentless attacks against him, he has also had to protect the spectators Hisoka attacked on multiple occasions, enduring numerous blows and bleeding cuts from Hisoka's sharp cards on non-vital points. In addition, the latest attack he carried out was not without consequences: the impact of a punch beyond his limits increased the bleeding in his right arm, and has caused bone fractures and three dislocated fingers.

However, despite the tiredness, the wounds, the pain and the dirt, Hisoka's bloody grin never wavered in all this time, even as he acknowledged Kai's strength through the fight, and Kai didn't slow down or show any distrust in being able to win the fight despite the endless obstacles.

"Well done, Kai." Hisoka says, his voice filled with genuine admiration and satisfaction as Kai, with an unperturbed expression, rearranges his dislocated fingers into a fist. "You truly are an opponent more than worthy of all the time and effort I've invested, and you've done an exceptional job protecting the spectators so far. But can you handle something like this?"

Hisoka then throws several strands of Bungee Gum at the rubble resulting from the flagstones destroyed during their fight, with some rocks being almost the size of a person, and to Kai's horror, with a strong swing of his arms Hisoka throws them directly towards the audience in the stands.

'What will you do now, Kai? The rocks are scattered all over the air and several people are bound to die when they fall. You might be able to save some of the people involved, but even with your skills, you wouldn't be able to cover the entire area and save everyone.' Hisoka thinks to himself as the debris looms over the spectators heads.

'Will you go anyway to save as many as you can? Or will you ignore it so you don't fail? And how will people react when their "hero" fails to save them all? Aaahhh, I can't wait to see that desperate expression on your face when that happens.'

As Hisoka's disgusting smile deepens with delight at this premise, Kai watches in fear and concern as the shattered rocks are about to rain down on the helpless crowd across a wide area above the stands before letting out a resigned sigh.

'I was hoping to save this until I had to face an army or an immensely durable individual, like Uvogin or the Royal Guard, but now there is no other option.' Kai thinks back as he activates his Barrage Orb and places it in front of his open left palm in preparation to launch his ultimate attack, much to Hisoka confusion.

"Orbital Cannon!" Kai shouts, firing a concentrated enormous flare of Nen energy at Hisoka debris projectiles, not only saving the public by obliterating them, but also passing through the tower so that the ray can be seen from the outside.

The impact of this powerful Nen attack creates a shake that can be felt by the people in the stadium, by Gon in his room and by all the people attending Heavens Arena today, leaving everyone who actually witness it, includind Hisoka, momentarily stunned by this colossal attack. Taking advantage of the distraction, Kai catches Hisoka off guard and tries to slash him once more with his wakizashi.

Hisoka steps back to dodge the attack, but Kai takes advantage of the momentum to release the sword and launch another slash by swinging it grabbed by the chain of its hilt, causing a vertically slanted bloody cut on Hisoka's chest and sending him sprawling to the ground severely wounded.

Cocco comments, bewildered as she sees, alongside the audience, the hole of more than a dozen meters in size through which the exterior of Heavens Arena can be seen.

"Did you like my little sword trick, Hisoka? Thanks to it, we now both match our cuts in the chest." Kai says mockingly as Hisoka struggles to get up from the ground. 'You have to thank Nobunaga. He's the one from who I got the idea for a chain in the sword hilt.'

"That last display of power... was truly spectacular. Seeing it has made it clear to me that you must to be an Emitter. And also... it's made it clear to me that you won't be able to use that strange orb to shoot me anymore." Hisoka says getting up and covering his bleeding open cut with his Bungee Gum, like if it was a styptic.

Certainly, the Orbital Cannon is a very powerful technique, but to use it Kai must use all of the aura stored in the Barrage Orb that he creates in order to fire it, which causes the orb to exhaust itself and vanish into nothingness just as Hisoka saw when Kai fired it a few moments ago.

"Stop chattering like you think you've already won the fight. We're both still standing, so you'd better put aside trivialities like what my Nen category is and get your head back to the fight if you don't want me to kill you unexpectedly." Kai rudely says while raising his fists and taking a fighting stance.

'I'm so happy right now, Kai. You've reached heights I could never have imagined. I'm grateful to have known you and to have held myself back in the past, because all of that's what has brought me to this moment. You making me go to such extremes to face you makes me feel so good.' Hisoka thinks with joy as he rushes off to physically face Kai once more.

Kai quickly responds by also jumping in his direction to engage into a flurry exchange of punches and kicks with him while using his Barrier Orb to avoid getting stick to Hisoka Bungee Gum and enhance his strikes, with Hisoka countering him with a series of rapid punches and kicks, each one imbued with deadly precision and bloodlust.

The final moments of the fight are a blur of motion and energy in sky and earth, with Kai and Hisoka trading blow after blow, each one more devastating than the last, and with the arena echoing with the sounds of their clashes, each fighter pushing the other to their limits.

As the fight approaches its final stretch, Hisoka's attacks grow more aggressive, his sadistic glee evident in every strike he attempts on Kai and the public. Kai, knowing he has to think outside the box, keeps physically containing Hisoka with his incessant exchange of powerful blows while devising the steps of the strategy to end this match once and for all.

During this extraordinary close quarters combat clash, the Barrier Orb covering Kai's fists and legs begins to flicker until it finally fades away; the aura charge Kai had invested in it having been depleted due to constant use during this drawn-out battle on the 230th floor.

Taking note of this, Hisoka quickly activates his Bungee Gum in his hands and in a quick exchange of punches and kicks, he sticks his aura on various parts of Kai's body and wraps around him to tie him up and immobilize him in place stuck to the ground.

Cocco shouts pretty alarmed by this unexpected development.

"I must admit, Kai, that you've pushed me harder than ever with this fight. I've been forced to use every trick and maneuver I could to survive your superior fighting abilities, and now I have you completely at my mercy, ready to be finished off." Hisoka flirtatiously says, approaching Kai and placing one of his sharp cards against his cheek.

"But... finishing it now wouldn't satisfy me completely, since there would still be a little thing left for me to savor before I kill you."

Realizing where Hisoka's eyes are diverting as he talks, Kai widens his eyes in panic before asking. "You don't mean to tell me that...?!" Kai doesn't have time to finish his question before Hisoka jumps once more towards the stands, being pulled by the contraction of his Bungee Gum to increase his speed. "HISOKA, STOP!!!"

'That's right, Kai. The look of despair on your face when you realize your efforts to protect the people have been in vain, and the look of disappointment on everyone else's face when their proclaimed "hero" ultimately fails. Seeing both expressions will be absolutely sublime.' Hisoka thinks with a deranged smile as he heads through the air towards the people in the stands.

Cocco screams in panic by the situation, prompting the people on Hisoka trajectory to also panic and try to run away from the place.

The escape attempt proves futile, as Hisoka quickly arrives right on top of them, revealing a pile of cards stuck to his Bungee Gum and preparing to throw them all at once with the grinning expression of a deranged killer. But, before he does, to his shock, a portal opens right in front of him.

"I never said I had only one." Kai says on the other side with a shimmering Nen orb placed between him and Hisoka.

'What?' It's the last thing Hisoka can think before...

"Orbital Cannon!" Kai shouts, firing once again his unforgettable flare of condensed Nen energy against Hisoka, hitting him squarely and sending him flying against one of the walls of the ground outside the stadium ring.

Seeing Hisoka's crashing with the wall, Kai uses almost all of his remaining aura to instantly create a Barrier Orb right there, and manipulating it to allow physical matter to pass through, causes it to pass through him while pulling hard on the aura attached to him, eventually managing to free him with considerable effort from Hisoka's Bungee Gum that had him bound and fading away as it has no more aura charge available.

Badly wounded, exhausted, dizzy, covered in blood and with blurred vision, Kai staggers and gasps from exhaustion towards the place where his Orbital Cannon has crashed, almost falling to the ground on a couple of occasions and drawing in preparation his sword with his left hand.

When he finally arrives at the place in question, when the dust clears, he can see Hisoka with his body covered in cuts and bruises, his left hand missing and his face disfigured by burns, but he's still alive, barely breathing as he spits blood from his mouth.

This result is completely normal, since as Kai told him, he didn't have just one Barrage Orb, but two: Kai's Orbital Orbs ability allows him to create several special orbs that he can activate to use at any time. While he doesn't activate them, the orbs will float around him in standby mode, so he won't be able to use them and they will be invisible to other people, even for Nen users who use Gyo.

Currently, Kai has been able to create up to 4 different powers for his orbs, and that's also the current limit of orbs he can have at once. However, that doesn't mean he can't have more than one orb with the same function. For this fight, Kai assembled 1 Barrier Orb, 1 Wormhole Orb, and 2 Barrage Orbs.

Despite what Hisoka and everyone else had initially thought, the first Orbital Cannon Kai fired was generated with the unused Barrage Orb that Kai had been keeping deactivated up until that very moment, and the second one used the Barrage Orb that Kai had kept using repeatedly throughout the battle against Hisoka. This was why the second Orbital Cannon was much weaker than the first one, and Hisoka was able to survive it despite his poor condition.

Nevertheless, it had still been a fairly powerful attack that had seriously injured Hisoka. If he is left there without medical assistance, it's fairly certain that he will die from the severity of his injuries. But, knowing of Hisoka's incredible resilience and recovery ability (plus his canon history of using Post-Mortem Nen), Kai obviously doesn't want to take any risks, and he enshroud his sword with Shu, pretending to use his remaining aura to deliver the finishing blow.

"You really impressed me. Cough." Hisoka begins to mumble, lying on the ground under Kai's murderous gaze and coughing blood as the words leave his mouth. "After tying you up and immobilizing you in the ring, I thought... cough... that I had victory secured. Even ... cough, cough... though I kept in mind that you could use that space portal even in that state, I wasn't afraid you could... cough... do anything with it. And yet, you caught me completely off guard with that final surprise attack. Truly masterful."

"So this is how it ends, huh? Cough. My bones are broken, I can't move my limbs at all. Plus, I can feel my lungs are soaked with blood, and I spent almost all my remaining aura... cough... defending myself from your last attack, so I can't defend myself now. It's checkmate for me."

"I'm not really complaining. I was... cough... the one who came looking to challenge you at full power ever since we met. This is simply the result of giving our all in this fight. It's a shame, though. Cough, cough. There were several things I wanted to do before dy..."

Hisoka doesn't have time to finish that last sentence when Kai swings his sword covered in Shu and ends Hisoka's life once and for all by swiftly decapitating him.

'I did it. I finally finished off that son of a bitch.' Kai thinks looking at Hisoka's severed head as the aura disappears from his wakizashi.

The entire stadium has fallen silent in the face of the recent events, and the referee (who had stayed away from the ring for fear of what might happen to him in the crossfire) steps slowly and scaredly until he is next to Kai, looking at Hisoka decapitated corpse on the ground.

"Hisoka has been killed! There is no doubt about it! Therefore, the winner of this deathmatch is...!" The referee tries to declare the result before Kai points the sharp edge of his sword at his neck with a threatening look to stop him from finishing.

Cocco comments in confusion at what she's seeing now.

Managing to silence the referee, Kai swings his sword through the air to remove Hisoka's blood before putting it back at his waist. There's still one more thing to do in this match, so then he raises with difficulty his left fist in the air and inhales as much air as he can.

"I AM... THE WINNNNNNEEEEEERRRRRR!!!" Kai screams with all the strength his stomach and lungs allow, the sonic expression of his unbreakable spirit impacting everyone in the stadium despite being badly injured, exhausted, and practically devoid of any aura.

After a few seconds of processing the impact, the crowd erupts in applause and screams, awed by the incredible display of skill, power and will that they've witnessed. Today, in this floor, a titanic battle between good and evil has taken place, where evil has been completely defeated in every sense of the word, and the excitement of the experience in which they have participated today, and the expression of that experience itself runs through every pore of their bodies and drives them to react in celebration with loudly cheers and uncontrolled movements.

Cocco comments as she gets swayed by the emotion and euphoria that not only the stadium, but the entire Heavens Arena is experiencing at the grand culmination of this legendary battle.
