What followed afterwards was a complete beatdown.
The «Yeti» didn't stand a chance against his overpowering might. Its two bars of health dwindled to nothing way too easily. Excalibur hacked and slashed its white hide like it were a marshmallow.
The beast was mainly a physical attacker that would focus on a single target to try punching them out. It had one other move that would let it pull a large rock from the ground and hurl it for a ranged attack. After the first bar of health was depleted, the «Yeti» would then go into a frenzy and stomp around like a berserk gorilla. It practically was one, excluding its snowy-colored fur.
All in all, the boss's attacks were simple. Too simple for Kirito's raw strength, speed, and the golden weapon within his hand. The power balance between them was offset entirely. It was like Kirito were the boss and «Yeti» the challenger. When it initially charged him, a single sword skill sent it flying back to the edges of its arena pit. Every time it tried getting up, his attacks immediately sent the overgrown monkey tumbling away again. It never even got the chance to throw a boulder, nor could it stomp around like a mad beast. When it tried after its health bar depleted, Excalibur immediately blinded and stunned it, only to be followed up with another series of sword skills.
Barely half a minute transpired and the tree-sized monster shattered into pixelized glass.
Congratulations!
Level up!

Flicking his glowing sword down, Kirito took a moment to stare deeply at it. This thing really didn't belong in this game. The «Yeti» may have not been a Floor Boss, but making such short work of it was ridiculous. Players have spent more time fighting a single mob than he did a boss. Hell, many of his own fights had been longer than that.
Sinon was right. This weapon would get him banned.
"I did want to test it. Guess I can scratch that off..." Kirito said dryly as he sheathed it away. Though the sword was immaculate and beautiful, wielding it felt awfully dirty. He quickly stowed it away, banishing it back into the pits of his inventory where it could never see the light of day. For all its crimes, it deserved no less.
At the very least, he always had an out in case he ever were truly cornered. Knowing that didn't make him feel any better, as it effectively removed all challenge. His whole reason for playing was the challenge of it. Go further than anyone on his own merit.
He's a professional gamer. Of course that's his mentality.
Breezing through was fun, but also disappointing. Owning such a weapon inherently took the thrill out of battles. For a moment, Kirito considered getting rid of it then and there. Threatening his enjoyment was indefensible and throwing it in a lake would guarantee no one else could grab it.
But he didn't get ahead of himself. As long as he didn't use it, then it was fine. Fighting most monsters was already incredibly easy with the gap between his level and theirs. If he needed to be pushed, he could take on harder challenges.
Excalibur had already been blacklisted because of all the heat it would bring down on him. Really, he wouldn't have many real opportunities to safely use it in the first place. If there were ever a player who didn't need cheats in the first place, it was him.
Ironic. Everyone else was struggling to survive, and here he was nerfing himself.
Replacing the cheat sword with his old reliable, Kirito read the bonus he received.
Last Attack Bonus!
«Yeti Fur x40»
This wasn't the same reward from the beta. Just like the item he received from Baran on Floor 2, as well as most other item drops from bosses, they were switched with something new. The drop was initially a pair of armored gauntlets, but was now replaced with a rare material. This one appeared unique to the boss just like «Baran's Amber» did.
If gauntlets had dropped, Kirito would have sold it along with some other rare items he'd received. He strictly wore light armor and the ones in the beta were meant for a tank. This outcome not only made it more interesting, but was preferred. The moments he couldn't predict were what made playing fun.
After reading through the description, the boy felt as if he could jump for joy. He'd cleaved through it easily, but the Yeti's hide appeared rather thick. The fur he received was much lighter and versatile. It could be used to craft light or heavy armor. The choice was left up to the player.
What caught his attention the most was the amount. Forty pieces of material for a drop was a lot, even for a boss drop. The number usually fell around twenty. Having so much meant he could likely use it to make more than one piece of equipment, given he actually find someone who could craft gear for him.
"Another person I'll probably have to meet..." Kirito sighed, closing his menu. If it was brand new equipment, then maybe he could get Sinon to have it made for him without raising eyebrows. Unlike his new sword, a player-crafted item wouldn't be something a beta tester could recognize. Regardless if the same person who made the armor saw him wearing it, the cover story would work much better here. It's much easier making up excuses for a single person than an entire crowd. As long as rumor didn't spread, it was fine.
Hopping out of the frosty trench in a single leap, Kirito returned to «Corma» only a couple minutes away. When he did, a message from Sinon appeared in his notification inbox.
Message:
Sinon:
I just got to Floor 9. I'm headed to Corma now to get the sword.
A second message quickly followed.
Message:
Sinon:
You're already there?! You're so annoying.
The friend tracker was a snitch. But since she thought he was annoying, he might as well act like it.
Message To:
Sinon:
Took all the good quests too. Not sure what you can do after getting your sword. I guess go make some snow angels?
Sending the inciting message, Kirito chuckled to himself as he carefully considered his next course of action. There were more than enough quests around for the both of them, so he wasn't worried about that. They could even do a few together after she got here. What concerned him the most was all those upgrades he needed to do.
It was a massive headache. Thank God for the cold weather.
Feeling the gentle powder float onto his black hair, the boy looked up at the virtual sky above. The sun had only just raised and cast a weak radiance through the puffy clouds scattered above. This world did its best to emulate reality, but even an untrained eye could tell it was artificial. The moment you touched something here, you could tell if it were real or not.
There was still a large gap between the virtual world and the real one.
"Sugu... how are you doing...?" Kirito whispered, his voice matching the somber feel of the ambiance. Whenever he thought back to the real world, he would always think about his sister. He wondered if their mother finally told her that they weren't really related by now. "Do you... hate me...?"
It sure seemed like it the last time they saw each other. She hadn't forgiven him for what he did and this incident would only further the chasm between them. If anything, she was probably grateful she wouldn't have to see or put up with him anymore.
Even though he believed it was better this way, he still wished the best for the girl he grew up with.
"Whatever you're doing out there... I hope you're happy."
