Chapter 11 - Diamond City

They were sleeping in the cabin. Otis heard a strange sound outside. He took a gun and didn't wake up Jack. Biomed's men surrounded the place and stormed the cabin and ordered Otis, Jack and Lisa to lie down on the ground. Biomed shot Jack and Lisa. Otis started crying bitterly until Ryan came in through the door and Jack started saying to him "Please protect me, please protect me" Ryan took his gun and shot Otis... Otis woke up from the dream surprised and scared and saw that it was just a bad dream. He saw Jack and Lisa sleeping peacefully. Otis got up from his place and went out the door and sat in front of the cabin door. He started to contemplate from afar and saw someone who looked like Ryan staring at him in the forest. Otis got up and quickly followed him so that he wouldn't run away from him. He kept running in the forest behind him and Ryan's image was in front of him. Otis was running fast until in a moment he could no longer see Ryan and fell from a tree trunk to the ground. He sat contemplating the sky. The birds were chirping and the place was beautiful. Until he saw smoke in the sky. He was surprised by that and looked to his right and found a large community with giant walls. Otis got up from his place and was afraid that he was hallucinating. He ran to the cabin and while running he heard voices in the forest. His fear increased every minute until he found the cabin and went and said to them. "I found a big city, we have to go there." Jack said to him. "Otis, you are not okay from yesterday's events. There is nothing near here called a community." Lisa said to him. "Let's go and take a look. He might be right. We have nothing to lose if we don't find it." Lisa was starving and held her stomach from hunger. Jack took a piece of chocolate from his pocket and gave it to Lisa. Lisa smiled at him. Jack said "Let's go now and take a look" They went and walked in the forest. Until they reached the place where Otis saw a city and yes there was a city. Jack said to him "Can't this city be affiliated with Biomed?" Otis said to him "Biomed doesn't build a city in the middle of nowhere and can be found" Jack said to Lisa "Give me the binoculars" Lisa handed him the binoculars and he looked and found green military equipment that indicated that it belonged to the army. Jack said "I think this city is ruled by the last elements of the army" Otis said to him "It could be true, we should go and check" Jack said to him "How can we trust them?" Otis said to him "We can't, but I'm going crazy from the cabin and the forest, I hear hallucinations and I see Ryan in the forest" Lisa said to him "That's weird, even I saw Leo in the forest" Jack said "I didn't want to seem crazy, but I also saw our mother in the forest" Otis said to them "Let's move" They went and moved towards the city, the road was wide and free of mutants. As they walked for half an hour, green-clad soldiers surrounded the group. One of the soldiers said, "Where are you coming from?" Jack said, "We are coming from our farm, a little while away from here. The thugs have taken over." The soldier said, "How do we know that there are no wounded among you?" Otis said, "We are clean." The soldier said, "Raise your hands and we will see your hand." They raised their hands. Their hands were dirty and wounded, but there was no sign of injury. The soldier said, "If you have any kind of weapons, put them down." They put the knives on the ground. The soldier said to Otis, "Hey, smart guy, I see the weapon hidden in your leg. Put it down." Otis picked up the weapon and put it down. The soldier called a truck to come and pick them up. They waited for the truck to arrive. A few minutes later, the truck arrived. The soldiers ordered the group to get into the truck. Otti and Jack got in and Otis helped Lisa and lifted her into the truck and they drove towards the city. On the way, Otis noticed the cleanliness of the road as if the virus had never infected them. Otis asked the soldier "The whole country is covered in dirt and there are bodies all over the road." The soldier replied "We clean the road every day. Now this city is one of the few remaining cities in the whole country." Otis was silent and started looking far away towards the mountains now the city was in the middle of the valley. Until they hit a bump and Lisa bumped into Otis. He grabbed her and asked her are you okay? She replied yes I am fine and they were close face to face for a few seconds. Then Lisa felt shy and moved away. The truck stopped and the soldiers got out of the truck and ordered the group to get out. The group got out of the truck and headed towards a gate and the soldiers pointed their weapons at them. They entered a room next to the gate. Hot steam was released on them. They panicked but quickly adjusted. They entered an office that was at the end of the hallway and the whole hallway was filled with this strange smoke that smelled of olives. They opened the office and entered. There was a general in the office, they knew that from his clothes. He got up from his seat and invited them to sit down. The general said: "What are your names?" They gave them their names and gave them a piece of paper to fill out. Otis said: "Why do we have to fill out this paper?" The general said: "If you want to live in the city, you have to fill out the paper, smart guy." Otis said: "If I wasn't smart, I wouldn't be alive this long." The general said: "Cockroaches live even after a nuclear strike." Otis said: "I'm not a cockroach." The general smiled and said: "Just fill out the paper." They filled out the papers and the general said: "Listen, you are now in Diamond City. The largest city in the Middle East and the last after Biomed destroyed a small community a few kilometers away from here and humiliated it. Anyway, we will leave you in a room outside the city so that we can see after a week if you will convert. During this period, we will process your file and your answers on the paper so that we can appoint each person to a specific job."
