Avond managed to escape the rain of bullets that had come after they failed to take over the warehouse.
He sat quietly behind a wild growth of bushes and vegetation at the edge of an abandoned building, facing the open waters that surrounded the island. The chilly breeze blew against his hair and salty taste of the ocean thick on his tongue.
Somewhere on his arm, there was an open wound. It soaked his right arm in warm blood but he couldn't exactly tell where it was. Half of his body felt numb.
"F***!" Avond screamed to the vast emptiness. His voice drowned by the sounds of water crashing against the jagged rocks below.
They failed.
He failed.
And as much as he wanted to tell himself these things happen. That success was not always guaranteed. His heart ached with a sharpness that was almost crippling.
