Helen's POV
I couldn't get Scott's pale, wounded face out of my head. I felt an intense, agonizing sense of shame when I looked at the picture. With my power at risk, how could I defend him?
He was sleeping when I came up to him, and a small smile came on his face. "Helen," he whispered, his voice gentle yet affectionate.
I could feel the pressure of my actions bearing down on me. "Scott... I am unsure about my ability to control this power. I believed I could, but now... My voice cracked. "I don't even believe in myself."
Scott's hand extended toward mine, softly wrapping his fingers around mine. Listen to me, Helen. This strength is weaker than you. It's not your entire self; it's simply a portion of it.
I tried to believe him, but doubt continued to creep in. "Scott, what if I hurt you again? What if the next time, I am unable to stop myself?
He tightened his hold on my hand. "I have faith in you, Helen. Your heart is good. And that is the most important thing.
