Jeanne sighed as she walked the streets in the shanty town. She had been in areas like this in her childhood and before she got to Orange Town. Still it felt foreign to her. Everyone here were probably criminals or didn't mind criminals. She hefted Balestra on her shoulder a bit. Checking the tank. She needed to be ready in case a fight bust out.
She sighed and looked to her companion. Flustering a bit as she tried to figure out some form of small talk... "So uh... My mom owned a library... I used to spend hours in there as a kid." she said in passing as she got out her list and began calculating out how to get as much of it as possible with her budget in the back of her head. Keeping her mind busy always helped with her anxiety.
"I uh... Know you like to read and all that..." she says meekly. God she needed to get used to talking to this girl one on one. Archeology and technological advancements went hand in hand after all. She gave a nervous chuckle. Hopefully they could get what they needed and get back to the ship quickly. Not only to save her some embarrassment, but also because this place frankly wasn't a good place for two women to be walking about. Even if they were both Devil Fruit power holders.
"I am a scholar after all." She gave a soft smile to the markswoman as the two of them walked down the road. Raven had a few of the passers by peek looks at her due to her attractive nature. Something she didn't mind in all honestly. She had become far more comfortable with the crew quicker than she had anticipated. There had been a nervous pang in her chest that it may end up like all the others...But-
That was a thought to be had later. "History. Fiction, Mystery. You name it I can read it."
"Haha. I understand. I've always been more of a sciences nerd." she said. Her nervousness melting away as Raven reciprocated her attempt at pleasant conversation. She kept her eyes peeled on the people she passed by as well, not out of any form of jealousy, but out of her usual skittish nature.
"Dr. Tehertz's published material is amazing. I'd kill to pick his brain." she beams as she digs out a cigarette. She didn't really smoke these that often, but sometimes a hookah was just inconvenient to carry around. As she lit it up and exhaled the perfumey smoke she looked back to her list.
"Well down to brass tacks I suppose." she says with a stretch. "Where to first? Your choice. The spring I'm looking for can wait."
"It'd be best to not dally along to long. If anything you've all mentioned about Leroy is even half true we best not wait for anything to potentially happen."
"It's likely to happen anyways.",Jeanne sighs as she takes another drag. That boy would be the death of her. Not out of actually attracting threats, but out of stress. "Kirk is with those idiots. We should be fine for a bit longer than normal." she says waving away the worry.
"So we have about half a day to a day before he starts or gets caught up in some nonsense. Besides my list isn't all necessary, a lot of this I've had since we left the East Blue but haven't had the funds to yet it all. I've just been chipping away and adding to it as we went along."
"Hmhmhm." She gave a soft chuckle. Putting her hand to her mouth "My My. Never a dull moment I suppose?"
"Our first island on the grand line your old boss sent a hit on him. You tell me." she responds with a laugh as the two keep on walking the streets. "We got lucky. The bounty hunter we encountered was an honorable man. Hope I get the chance to meet him again some day."
"I know who you speak of. Hornigold was desperate to get 'A rookie raising the ranks too fast' out of the way before they became a threat...But it seems that came to bite him in more ways than one. Nearly a Billion Berry spent. And a Criminal Empire crumpling before his very eyes."
"He should've picked a more ruthless headhunter. Shishishishi!" Jeanne would say with a laugh. "Oh looks like this is a good place for some supplies!" she would say as she spotted a general goods store run by a longarm tribesman in the distance.
"Is that guy alright? His arms look messed up." she says with a grimace, still far enough away that he wouldn't overhear her. "He doesn't look like a fishman." she said as she scratched her cheek and began subtly redirecting herself towards the store.
"They definitely seem to work atleast." she says as she sees him pick up a large barrel over his head and hands it to a Pirate before he walks off. "Tons of weird stuff in the world I don't understand."
"Thats a member if the Long Arm people." She bent forward to whisper in her ear. Hoping to educate the Markswoman
As the two perused the wares there was something egging on Ravens mind. And as she picked up a piece of worked metal she spoke to Jeanne. "you know you mention a more ruthless person…But-"
"He was. Theres very few above that man in that field of work that are more ruthless or infamous…so what ever it is that kept him from being snuffed…it must've been significant."
Jeanne gave a bit of a giggle as she began loading up on supplies. Scrap metal. Looking at the lumber. Bits and bobs. Cloth. She'd have her arms loaded full of various goods. "I see.", she nodded along with both Rango Scotch and about the Long Arm people. She'd have to ask more later, it felt weird and a bit of a social faux pas to ask a shopkeep about his people.
