Chapter 38 - 38-New world . . . again

As Carter fell from the sky he instinctively tried to spread his wings to control his decent, but instead he smashed into the stone. 'where are my wings?' he thought as he tried feeling for them but they weren't there. 'where are my wings?' he asked the system, deciding to not lash out just yet.

[Since you are not a child of the great dragon Mim, your dragon abilities have been locked to keep you from being noticed by the gods of this world, who would try their best to kill you.] Carter opened his system and sure enough it was all locked.

'Is it temporary or permanent?' he asked [This is only temporary, once you return to the other world your powers will return. in the mean time, I would recommend you buy a quirk from the system store to assist you.] So that why Dave gave me those extra points, what should I buy though.

'bring up the system store' [ok]

[MHA System store]

Emitter quirks-Explosion, Electricity, Half-hot half-cold, Creation (10,000 points each)

Transformation quirks- Hardening, Muscle augmentation, Gigantification, ect (10,000 points each)

Mutant quirks- Six arms, Engine, Wings, Size shift (10,000 points each)

Special quirks- One for All, All for One, Overhaul, New Order, Erasure, Warp gate, Rewind (100,000 points each)

As he looked through the lists of quirks in each category, Carter didn't even bother to look at the special quirks since they were way to expensive, but the 'Wings' quirk that would give him flight again was pretty tempting, but he ultimately chose something else.

'Buy Half-Hot Half-Cold, it will be the most useful.' [Very well, prepare yourself.]

I barely had time to register the notice of spending 10,000 points before my body was engulfed in pain. Searing hot and freezing cold fought inside me as they tried to over power the other, not caring that they were ripping my body apart in the process. As the two energies fought I tried my best not to scream, if my first life was full of emotional pain then this HAD to be the epitome of physical pain, on side of my body felt like it was submerged in lava and the other felt like the cold of the vacuum. As they fight escalated I felt like I was splitting in two, my eyelids grew heavy as I felt the urge to just . . . give up.

No more pain. . .

No more fighting. . .

No chasing an impossible revenge . . .

'What would she think if she saw me now?' I thought as the pain nearly overwhelmed me, 'what would my friends say?' I fell to my knees as blood started to pour out of my ears, my nose and eyes, body not accustomed to such strain and pressure.

'She would want you to be happy, and to live your life.' the voice told me, somber for once

"But we both know, you aren't going to do that.' "No I'm not."

"I swore that I'd never be useless again, that I would avenge the death of my friends."

The bleeding stopped, though still flowed down and pooled at my feet.

"I swore to remember them until the universe ended." I slowly picked my self, ignoring the pain that was slowly going away.

"I swore, with her dying breath. That I would kill that bastard, no matter how many time I died, that I would come back and one day kill him for what he did to my mother, and what he made me do in my anger." I stood unsteadily, as my feet felt like blocks of concrete had fused to them, but I still stood. Then I focused inward, where the two balls of energy had stopped their fighting, and where now looking at me, breathing in I forced them into their own halves, Ice on the left and Fire on the right. They complied as they settled into their corners before I exhaled and opened my eyes and looked around.

As I looked around I saw signs of battle on the stone around me, claw marks, long gashes from what was likely a bladed weapon, and lots of blood. Seeing a trail of it I followed and found a body, it was gruesome. It looked like it had been torn in half, right at the waist with intestine spilling out.

Seeing more bodies I went and looked at them, one was a man, he appeared regal even in death, with sword in hand and a crown on his head. The last body was what caught my attention though as it was the most damaged, and it was still alive.

I looked down at the woman who was wrapped in her own cloak, she was deathly pale, most likely from blood loss but she had just enough strength to look at me. "Are you the one who asked for help?" I asked and her eyes widened, not much but just enough to tell that she was surprised.

"Your call has been answered." I said softly as the queen whispered two words, before the light in her eyes finally faded, "F-find, Rose." and she was gone. Perhaps feeling a bit shaken after my second brush with death only ten minutes ago, I gently closed her eyes before going over to her husband, and placed them together, letting them rest together one last time. Before I moved on, I noticed that the kings crown was broken, but the queens was still intact, so I took them maybe they would be of use later. Though as I went to where the last body was in the snow drift, I heard a faint buzzing, like that of insects. I paused but didn't hear them again, when I reached the body, it was gone as was the sickle that was next to it, leaving behind a puddle of blood.

As I got my bearings I realized that I had no idea who this 'Rose' was or why she was so important that the queens dying words were to find her, but I decided the best place to look would be from the top of a nearby mountain, so I started to climb.

Once I reached the top I found several stone pillars, the stood several meters tall, in a loose circle,[1] as if waiting for something. The air felt older near them, and I had no reason to antagonize the gods of this world, so I moved on and found a breathtaking sight. There was a valley, it was massive and lush, though I did see several columns of smoke, so there where at least little towns in it, what was off to the distance is what caught my attention though. I couldn't quite make out what it was, it would probably be invisible in the day time, but here in the dark, I could clearly see a burning city.

I stared at the city of dying flames for a few minutes before I turned and started down the cliff, where I found a water fall that fed into a river that seemed to snake all throughout the valley. My goal for now was to find civilization, and whoever this 'rose' woman was, then I had to find Thorn, where ever she was.
