Chapter 79 - Shattered Bonds

The wind howled through the desolate landscape, carrying with it the scent of rain and the ominous promise of things to come. Kilua stood alone on the cliff, his body bruised and battered from the battle, but his spirit unbroken. His heart ached with the weight of everything he had just learned—the truth about his family, his bloodline, and the inescapable reality that his past would always haunt him.

He had fought fiercely against the assassin sent by the Zoldycks, and with Leorio's unexpected intervention, they had been able to drive the attacker back. But that small victory did little to ease the gnawing fear that lingered in Kilua's chest. The Zoldycks were not a simple family. They were a force that transcended everything he had ever known, and now, more than ever, Kilua could feel the pull of his heritage dragging him back into the darkness.

Kilua's thoughts drifted back to Gon. Gon, who had been a beacon of hope for him in the darkest of times. Gon, who had been his closest friend and companion. The memory of Gon's cheerful face, his unwavering belief in Kilua's strength, felt like a distant echo now. He had failed Gon. In his quest for freedom, he had left behind the one person who had truly understood him. And now, Gon's absence weighed heavily on Kilua's heart. He had lost more than just a friend; he had lost a part of himself.

Kilua clenched his fists, the pain of loss mixing with the fire of determination. No more running. No more hiding. I will face what's coming, even if it means sacrificing everything.

Suddenly, a voice broke through the silence, familiar yet chilling.

"Kilua..."

Kilua froze, his body tense as he turned to face the source of the voice. His eyes narrowed in disbelief as he saw the figure approaching. It was Illumi.

Illumi, his older brother, stood before him, his expression unreadable. His presence was suffocating, a dark shadow that seemed to swallow the very air around them. Kilua could feel the weight of Illumi's Nen pressing down on him, a force so strong that it made the air feel thick and heavy.

"I knew you would come, Illumi," Kilua said, his voice low but steady. "I knew you would come to finish what you started."

Illumi's eyes narrowed as he looked at Kilua, a faint smirk curling at the corners of his lips. "You've always been so naïve, Kilua," he said, his voice cold and calculating. "Did you really think you could escape the Zoldyck family? Did you think you could outrun your bloodline?"

Kilua's gaze hardened. He had spent so long running, trying to distance himself from his family, but now he realized that there was no escaping them. They were a part of him, no matter how much he hated it.

"I don't care about the Zoldycks anymore," Kilua said, his voice trembling with anger. "I'll never be like you. I'll never follow your path."

Illumi stepped closer, his presence even more oppressive than before. "You think you have a choice?" he asked, his voice dripping with disdain. "You are Zoldyck. You were born into this family. You will never be free."

Kilua's heart raced as he took a step back, his Nen flaring to life around him. "I'm not you, Illumi," he spat, his words laced with venom. "I will never follow your orders. I'll fight until the very end."

Illumi's smirk deepened, and for a brief moment, it seemed as though he was almost amused. "You think you can fight me? You think you can fight your own fate?"

Kilua's mind raced. He could feel the crushing weight of his brother's Nen closing in around him, but he refused to let it break him. He had to be strong. He had to fight for his freedom, for his future.

Suddenly, Illumi lunged at him, his movements swift and lethal. Kilua barely had time to react as Illumi's needle-like weapon shot towards him, aiming for his heart. In that split second, Kilua made a choice. He didn't hesitate. He didn't second-guess himself.

With a flash of lightning-fast speed, Kilua evaded Illumi's attack, his Nen flaring as he struck back with a ferocity that left no room for mercy. His fist connected with Illumi's jaw, sending his older brother stumbling back. But Illumi's expression remained unchanged, his eyes cold and calculating.

"You're stronger than I thought," Illumi said, wiping the blood from his lip. "But it won't be enough. You can't escape the truth, Kilua."

Kilua stood his ground, his body trembling from the effort, but his resolve was unwavering. He was done running. Done hiding. The Zoldycks could send whoever they wanted. Kilua would fight with everything he had.

"I'll make my own path," he said, his voice low but filled with conviction. "And you're not going to stop me."

But even as the words left his lips, Kilua knew the truth. No matter how hard he fought, no matter how much he resisted, the Zoldyck family would always be there, lurking in the shadows. And in the end, Kilua would have to confront the legacy that had been forced upon him—whether he wanted to or not.
