"I won't get rid of it," Haisley said firmly, cutting through the silence between them. Her voice trembled, but her eyes didn't waver for a second as she looked at Lucas.
Lucas fell silent. H3is breath caught, like a heavy stone had crashed into his chest. His gaze fixed on Haisley, struggling to believe those words had just come from the woman he thought would be on the same page as him.
"This is our child, our flesh and blood!" Haisley continued. "If you don't want to acknowledge it or accept it, that's your problem. But I want this baby, and I'm going to keep it. This child is growing inside me, and I have more rights over its life than you do!" Her voice rose, steady and unyielding. Tears welled up in her eyes, but not a single one fell.
