Chapter 37 - Just bullying at this point

The second part of the first half began with Charlotte Thunder desperately trying to find something that worked against the Flight Boys' suffocating defense. But every adjustment they made seemed to be anticipated.

Flight Boys' Third Drive

Starting at the 30-yard line after another Charlotte punt, Tristain brought his team to the line with calm confidence. Charlotte had made more adjustments, but it didn't matter.

1st and Goal from the 30

"Gun doubles right. Deshawn, comeback at 18. Show them that route-running."

Deshawn lined up outside, immediately studying the cornerback's alignment. The defender was playing about eight yards off, clearly trying to prevent another big play.

Deshawn's POV: Corner's playing scared now. Eight yards of cushion? That's disrespectful. Time to make him pay.

At the snap, Deshawn used a speed release, accelerating vertically with explosive quickness. His eyes stayed focused downfield, selling the deep route as he drove the cornerback deeper into his coverage.

At 18 yards, Deshawn planted his right foot with tremendous force, pieces of turf flying as he made his cut. His left shoulder dipped dramatically as he broke back toward Tristain, creating instant separation from the cornerback who was still running with the vertical route.

Tristain had been watching the safety throughout the play, using his eyes to manipulate the coverage. He looked left first, causing the free safety to drift in that direction, then snapped his eyes back to Deshawn just as he made his break.

His right foot planted hard as he stepped into the throw, his hips rotating smoothly as his arm whipped forward. The ball came off his hand with perfect velocity, arriving at Deshawn's hands just as he completed his turn.

COMPLETION. 18 yards to the 48-yard line.

Deshawn caught the ball with both hands at chest level, immediately tucking it away and turning upfield before being touched down.

1st and Goal from the 48

"Gun trips left. Elijah, deep dig route. Use that size in traffic."

This was another route variation for Elijah, testing his ability to work the middle of the field rather than the outside. The deep dig required him to get across the formation at 15 yards, finding the soft spot between linebackers and safeties.

Elijah lined up as the inside receiver in trips formation, studying the coverage. Charlotte was showing Cover 2 again, with both safeties playing deep and splitting the field.

Elijah's POV: Deep dig route. Gotta sell the vertical first, then break across at exactly 15 yards. Window should be right between the linebacker and safety.

At the snap, Elijah used a split release, taking a hard step outside before breaking inside and accelerating vertically. The cornerback was playing press coverage, trying to jam him at the line.

Elijah drove straight upfield, his eyes focused on the safety to sell the vertical route. At exactly 15 yards, he planted his left foot and broke hard across the formation, his right shoulder dipping as he accelerated into the middle of the field.

The route took him directly between the linebacker and safety, finding the exact soft spot in the Cover 2 coverage. The window was small, but Elijah's size and hands made it a manageable target.

Tristain had been tracking the safeties from the snap, watching their movement to confirm the coverage. As Elijah broke across the formation, Tristain was already starting his throwing motion.

He gave a subtle pump fake to the outside first, freezing the safety for a split second, then ripped a pass across his body toward Elijah. His left foot planted as he torqued his entire body into the throw, generating tremendous velocity on the cross-body delivery.

COMPLETION. 25 yards to the 23-yard line.

Elijah caught the ball with both hands at shoulder height, immediately tucking it away as he absorbed contact from the closing linebacker. He fought through the touch attempt, using his size and strength to gain an extra three yards before being brought down at the 20-yard line.

1st and Goal from the 20

Red zone territory again. Charlotte was starting to look demoralized, but they were still fighting.

"Gun spread formation. Jaylen, option route. Read the coverage and find the hole."

The option route put the decision in Jaylen's hands. He would read the corner's coverage and adjust his route accordingly - if the corner dropped deep, he'd run a hitch; if the corner stayed shallow, he'd run a seam.

Jaylen lined up in the slot, immediately studying the corner's alignment and body language. The defender was showing an aggressive look, creeping toward the line of scrimmage.

Jaylen's POV: corner's playing aggressive. He's gonna try to jump whatever I run underneath. Perfect for a seam route. Just gotta sell the hitch first.

At the snap, Jaylen used a hop release to avoid the corner's jam attempt. He took three steps toward the corner, selling the hitch route perfectly with his eyes and shoulders.

The corner bit on the fake, starting to break on what he thought was a short route. That's when Jaylen planted his left foot and accelerated past the corner, turning the route into a seam up the middle.

Tristain had been watching the corner's movement, ready to adjust based on Jaylen's read. When he saw Jaylen break past the linebacker, he knew exactly where the ball needed to go.

His right foot planted as he stepped up in the pocket, his hips opening as he delivered a strike over the linebacker's head. The ball came off his hand with perfect touch, dropping into Jaylen's hands at the 8-yard line.

COMPLETION. 12 yards to the 8-yard line.

Jaylen caught the ball with both hands over his head, having to jump slightly to secure it over the linebacker's outstretched arms. He immediately tucked it away and turned toward the end zone before being touched down.

1st and Goal from the 8

"Gun doubles left. Marcus, slant-and-fade combination. Make them choose."

The slant-and-fade combination was designed to create confusion in the defense. Marcus would start with a slant route, then break it back outside toward the corner, forcing the defender to choose which route to cover.

Marcus lined up wide left, studying the cornerback's alignment. The defender was playing about five yards off, trying to stay in position to cover multiple routes.

Marcus's POV: Corner's playing off coverage. Perfect for this route combination. Let me sell the slant hard, then break his ankles when I go back outside.

At the snap, Marcus used a jab release to the outside, then broke hard inside as if running a slant route. His shoulders turned toward Tristain, his eyes focused on the quarterback as he sold the slant perfectly.

The cornerback bit on the route, his hips turning inside as he prepared to jump the slant. That's when Marcus planted his left foot with explosive force and broke back outside toward the corner of the end zone.

The move was so sudden and violent that the cornerback stumbled trying to change direction. By the time he recovered, Marcus was already in the back corner of the end zone with clear separation.

Tristain had been watching the cornerback's hips throughout the play. When he saw the defender bite on the slant, he knew Marcus would be open on the fade portion of the route.

His left foot planted as he stepped into the throw, his arm whipping upward with perfect trajectory. The ball arced toward the corner of the end zone, placed exactly where only Marcus could reach it.

TOUCHDOWN. FLIGHT BOYS 21-0.

Marcus had to jump off his right foot to reach the ball, extending both arms skyward at the peak of his jump. He secured the ball with both hands while keeping both feet inbounds, showing the kind of concentration and body control that made him elite.

Another touchdown, another statement. The Flight Boys were in complete control.

----

Charlotte's offense continued to struggle against the Flight Boys' defense. Every route was contested, every throw was pressured, and every decision seemed to be anticipated by the defense.

Charlotte's Second Drive

Morrison tried to establish some rhythm with short passes, but the Flight Boys' defensive backs were playing with supreme confidence.

1st and Goal from the 25

Morrison looked for his slot receiver on a quick hitch, but Malik Johnson broke on the route and nearly intercepted the pass.

INCOMPLETE PASS.

2nd and Goal from the 25

A swing pass to the running back was diagnosed by Marcus Thompson, who closed quickly and held the gain to just three yards.

3rd and 7 from the 28

Morrison tried to force a throw to his best receiver on an out route, but Devon Carter was in perfect position to break up the pass.

INCOMPLETE PASS.

Another punt. Charlotte couldn't generate any offensive rhythm against the Flight Boys' dominant defense.

---

1st and Goal from the 25

"Gun trips right. Terrell, arrow route from the backfield."

The arrow route was a quick-hitting pattern where Terrell would release from the backfield and break diagonally across the formation at about eight yards depth.

Terrell lined up in the backfield, reading the linebacker's alignment. The defender was playing about six yards off the line of scrimmage, perfect depth for the arrow route to work.

Terrell's POV:Linebacker's playing right in my route. Gonna have to make him miss with some footwork. Arrow route at eight yards - perfect.

At the snap, Terrell released toward the right flat, selling the checkdown route for three steps. Then he planted his right foot and broke diagonally across the formation, his change of direction leaving the linebacker flat-footed.

Tristain had been waiting for Terrell to make his break. As soon as he saw the diagonal cut, he was releasing the ball.

His right foot planted as he delivered a quick strike, the ball arriving at Terrell's hands just as he broke into open space.

COMPLETION. 15 yards to the 40-yard line.

Terrell caught the ball with both hands at waist level, immediately turning upfield and using his speed to gain additional yardage before being touched down.

1st and Goal from the 40

"Gun doubles left. Carlos, double move - hitch-and-go."

Carlos lined up outside, studying the cornerback who was playing about seven yards off. The hitch-and-go would test his ability to sell the short route before breaking deep.

Carlos's POV:Seven yards of cushion. Perfect for a hitch-and-go. Gotta sell the hitch route hard, make the corner bite, then break it deep.

At the snap, Carlos used a speed release, accelerating for five yards before suddenly stopping and turning back toward Tristain as if running a hitch route. His shoulders turned completely toward the quarterback, his hands coming up as if expecting the ball.

The cornerback bit completely on the fake, breaking hard toward Carlos and preparing to make a play on what he thought was a hitch route.

That's when Carlos planted his right foot and exploded past the cornerback, his second gear leaving the defender grasping at air. The double move had worked perfectly.

Tristain had been watching the cornerback's reaction to the hitch fake. When he saw the defender bite, he knew Carlos would be open deep.

His left foot planted as he stepped into the throw, his arm whipping forward with tremendous force. The ball sailed over the cornerback's head, dropping into Carlos's hands at the 15-yard line.

COMPLETION. 25 yards to the 15-yard line.

Carlos caught the ball over his shoulder while running at full speed, his hands soft and sure as he hauled in the perfectly placed pass. He immediately turned toward the end zone before being touched down.

1st and Goal from the 15

"Gun spread formation. Deshawn, back-shoulder comeback."

Another variation of the comeback route, this one requiring Deshawn to stop his route and come back to the ball while Tristain threw it behind him.

Deshawn lined up wide

1st and Goal from the 15

"Gun spread formation. Deshawn, hit that back-shoulder comeback."

Deshawn lined up wide, eyes locked on the corner who was pressing hard, trying to mess up his timing. Deshawn thought: Press coverage? This dude's nervous. Perfect time for a comeback.

As the ball snapped, Deshawn made a quick jab-step to the outside, throwing the corner off balance, then cut sharply back inside. At exactly ten yards, he planted his left foot and turned back towards Tristain, eyes flashing open for the pass.

Tristain saw it all unfold, watching the corner's hips. He planted his right foot and fired a perfect back-shoulder throw, placing the ball slightly behind Deshawn to help him shield it from the defender.

COMPLETION. 10 yards to the 5-yard line.

Deshawn snagged the ball with his fingertips, spun around, and quickly turned upfield, picking up extra yards before being tagged down.

1st and Goal from the 5

"Gun tight left, Marcus, quick slant. Easy score here."

Marcus lined up close, sizing up the cornerback pressing him. Marcus thought: Tight coverage near the goal line? Time to get tricky.

At the snap, Marcus made a split move, faking outside then cutting back inside, smoothly shaking the defender. Tristain immediately saw the opening and zipped a perfect pass right into Marcus's chest.

TOUCHDOWN. FLIGHTBOYS28-0.

Marcus confidently caught the ball with both hands, barely noticing the defender's hit, and celebrated with a quick spike. The Flight Boys were cruising.

Halftime arrived fast, and the scoreboard said it all: Flight Boys up 28-0. The sideline buzzed with excitement as Tristain and the receivers exchanged fist bumps and hyped each other up about their solid first-half performance.

---

The second half was more of the same—the Flight Boys kept dominating. Tristain showed off his growing pocket skills, using pump fakes and eye tricks to throw defenders off. The receivers mixed up their routes constantly, using quick steps, speed moves, and sharp cuts to leave defenders in the dust.

Marcus and Deshawn made big-time catches even when tightly covered, while Elijah owned the middle of the field, showing off his strength and reliable hands. Jaylen kept tearing through seams and option routes, confusing Charlotte's defense. Terrell and Carlos turned short passes into big gains, keeping drives alive.

On defense, the Flight Boys kept Charlotte locked down. Charlotte couldn't find answers and kept giving up turnovers.

Final score: FLIGHTBOYS42-CHARLOTTETHUNDER0. It was total domination—a big-time statement to everyone watching. The Flight Boys were for real.
