Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

The next morning, while the werewolves were asleep, Mrs. Young read the newspaper and saw Randy on the front page. Mrs. Young said, "Mystery dog pack causes mayhem all over town." Mrs. Young then turned on the TV and caught the news. Judy, the newswoman, said, "The werewolf pack is still doing its best to help people around town. But the one thing they can't seem to stop is a dog pack. So far, they've stolen a ring for Hunter Reed, traveled on trucks, escaped from carriers and houses, and hiked hundreds of miles to cause chaos all over town. They've seemed to have disappeared, but they were last seen heading toward Werewolf Rock and are probably still headed up there as we speak." Mrs. Young said, "Well, now we know where to find him. I'll alert Mrs. Wolf when she wakes up later."

Meanwhile, Eliza woke up snuggling with Randy. Then Randy woke up and saw her. Randy said, "Ah! Why are you cuddling me?" Eliza said, "I don't know. I must have fallen on you in my sleep." Randy said, "Yeah, well, if you'll excuse me." Randy hurried to a higher level and reached the roof. Randy then sat on the roof and tried to remove his watch, but he got his leg stuck in it instead. He then fell to the ground, and Pongo, the Labrador, laughed at him. Pongo said, "Are you having trouble?" Randy said, "Just a little." Pongo said, "Here, let me help you."

Pongo pulled Randy's leg out of his watch and said, "Where'd you get that?" Randy said, "It was a birthday present from my Uncle Max, and I can't get it off." Pongo said, "Don't worry, it's bound to come off sooner or later." Randy then sat down and gazed out at the view, missing his family. Pongo laid down and Randy wondered why. Randy said, "What's eating you. I miss my family, so I'm sad, but why are you?" Randy and Pongo looked at each other, and Randy figured it out. Randy said, "Huh, you had an owner." Pongo said, "Yeah, I had one." Randy said, "What was he like?" Pongo didn't want to talk about it, but he felt the need to. Pongo said, "In a way, he was a lot like me. He adopted me as a pup. And when we were together, we became close. He played music and I would dance, we slept in bed together, and every morning he would take me for walks in the park so that we could avoid the werewolves."

Pongo then had a flashback of what happened in the past and told Randy about it. Pongo told Randy his owner had died, and their house had been sold; he was left on the street to care for himself. When the flashback was over, Randy felt bad for Pongo. Randy said, "Pongo, you sounded like a very loyal dog. What happened to your owner wasn't your fault. And if the family that moved into your house couldn't see what a great dog you were, it was their loss." Pongo said, "It wasn't all bad. I've made a few friends and I go where I want these days. I'm just waiting for another real adventure to come. Not like every day is an adventure for me." Pongo then left, and Randy thought about what he said. Then he looked down and saw Eliza and another golden retriever wrestling. He also saw Ace playing with the other puppies.

Since everyone was having fun outside, Randy walked downstairs and figured this would be an excellent opportunity for him to leave. Randy tried leaving the abandoned house, but Ace stopped him. Ace said, "Randy?" Randy said, "Oh, hi, Ace." Ace said, "Where are you going?" Randy said, "Well, it's been fun, but I've got to get going." Ace said, "Why?" Randy said, "It's hard to explain." Daisy got in Randy's face and said, "You're leaving?" Randy fell to the ground and said, "No. I mean, yes. It's just that it's been fun, but I don't belong here." Daisy got confused and said, "Don't belong? Every dog belongs here. It's like a dog hotel. All dogs are welcome. Now, come on. Let's play." Randy tried avoiding Daisy and Ace, but when he ran off, Daisy and Ace ran after him, thinking he wanted to play.

While Daisy and Ace were playing with Randy, the other dogs had heard the dogcatcher truck approaching, so they hurried back inside and hid. Once Randy, Ace, and Daisy got outside, they looked around for the other dogs, but got confused because he couldn't find them. Once Eliza saw Randy, Daisy, and Ace outside, she alerted the other dogs, and they rushed to their rescue before the animal control officers arrived. Once they got there, Eliza tried to warn them. Eliza said, "Randy, Ace, and Daisy, get out of there." Ace said, "Why? We're having too much fun playing outside." Melody, the Dalmatian, said, "You can wait until we're all back outside; just get inside now." Daisy said, "Ok."

Randy, Ace, and Daisy walked inside, and Randy got by the window with Eliza. When Eliza saw the van coming, she told Randy to get down with her. Once they got down, the animal control officers drove by in their van and looked in the window, but didn't see anyone inside. After they left, the dogs emerged from hiding and remained inside the building until they were gone. The animal control officers then entered the abandoned house where the dogs were, but they were all hiding upstairs. Crystal, the animal control officer, shone her flashlight around the abandoned house while her partner, Horace, followed behind her. Chance, the beagle, whispered, "Now would be a good time for one of your plans, Muttician." Eliza looked around and saw the animal control officers coming up the stairs. Eliza whispered, "I'll distract them. Pongo, you make sure everyone runs and hides in bedrooms." Randy whispered, "Small problem. I can't run; my back leg is still bruised. Remember? Eliza whispered, "Then follow everyone as fast as you can."

Eliza headed downstairs and ran past the animal control officers. Once she did, Crystal chased after her. Crystal said, "You go upstairs and make sure no more dogs are hiding up there." Crystal ran after Eliza and chased her outside while Horace searched upstairs for the other dogs who were hiding in all the bedrooms and keeping quiet so Horace wouldn't find them. Horace looked all around with his flashlight and searched each room in the house, but couldn't find the dogs anywhere.

Meanwhile, Crystal lost track of Eliza and wondered what had happened to her. Eliza then kicked a flower pot off the ledge and said, "Oops." The flower pot then hit Crystal on the head, drawing her attention. Eliza then growled at Daisy and showed her teeth. Eliza then tackled Crystal and jumped on her. Once Crystal was down, Eliza ran off, and Crystal chased her. Crystal tried to catch Eliza, but Eliza lured Crystal to the pond. When they arrived, Eliza kicked a ball at Crystal, and she fell into the pond. After beating Crystal, Eliza ran off and headed back to the abandoned house to stop Horace.

Once she got back to the abandoned house, Eliza saw Horace looking around, so she took a lamp's wire and tied Horace's legs together with it. She then kicked Horace with her hind legs, and he fell down the stairs. Once he got to the bottom, Crystal walked in and untied Horace. They then followed Eliza upstairs, creeping behind her. Once Eliza was reunited with Randy and Ace, Crystal and Horace caught up with all three of them. Crystal and Horace then carried Randy, Eliza, and Ace downstairs, threw them into their truck, and slammed the door on them. Randy, Eliza, and Ace then started to panic and yell for help, knowing some of the other dogs were right outside and the others were inside the house. When the dogs inside the house saw Randy, Eliza, and Ace inside the animal control officers' truck, they ran after them. However, the animal control officers began their vehicle and took them to the pound. The other dogs tried to chase after them, but the animal control officers' truck moved too quickly for them to catch up. So, they stopped and watched as the animal control officers took them away to the pound.
