Chapter 161 - Chapter 160

There's only one month left before the exams.

Moreover, in two weeks, the Easter holiday will begin, lasting for two weeks. So, calculating the time, the OWLs exams will start almost immediately after the holiday ends.

"Oh, damn the Goblin Rebellion! Why did they have to rebel!" For some reason, Lys had an excellent memory for all books and those illustrated diagrams, but when it came to the history of magic, she couldn't remember a single word and just wanted to sleep.

Wandering through the library and classrooms, Lys shamelessly sat next to the Ravenclaws, peeking at their history of magic notes.

She even hovered near Snape's cauldron, observing his techniques, only to be shooed away by Snape waving his wand due to the fluctuating magic around her.

Even Potter wasn't spared; his Defense Against the Dark Arts was quite impressive, so Lys would always appear nearby, arms crossed, watching as he and his friends practiced spells in the grove.

Unable to beat him, yet feeling frustrated, Potter vented all his anger on the Defense Against the Dark Arts spells, making them seem incredibly powerful.

Lys took out her notebook and jotted down: Intensity!

She even heard from the well-informed Hufflepuffs that the chief examiner, Madam Marchbanks, was quite elderly and liked to see students demonstrate something novel during exams. If she was pleased, an O (Outstanding) or multiple Os were common.

Lys wanted to borrow Herbology notes from a Hufflepuff, but those little badgers ran faster than anyone upon seeing a Slytherin. Pretending not to notice, Lys cornered one in the Great Hall.

"This, this, take it, and this too, all yours, lend me your Herbology notes!" Lys boldly spread out her hand, offering honey-glazed fish snacks, a bag of alchemical treats for advanced protective arrays, and potion handling tips copied from Snape.

Looking at the best student in Herbology across from her, with a look of desire yet hesitation, Lys understandingly snatched his backpack, placing the items inside before pulling out the thickest notebook.

"I'll return it before the holiday," she said, tossing the words over her shoulder as she returned to her dormitory, racing against time to copy and memorize, lest she run out of time.

Even the professors weren't spared from her pestering. Though Professor Babbling was obsessed with Runes, she had never been so frustrated with anyone over translation issues, clutching her chest and shouting, "Get out!"

Lys, clutching a copy and carrying her snake, slinked out of the professor's office, but worried that this might appear on the exam, she turned back to knock on the tightly shut door.

"I swear, it won't be on the exam, now go, go!" Professor Babbling shouted through the door, clutching her precious translation work.

After hesitating for a moment, Lys left, deciding she could come back tomorrow~

Even Professor McGonagall was reaching her limit, "This isn't possible, I don't know where you read this, but in today's wizarding world, alchemical creatures are taboo."

"But Professor, isn't there already a potion for conception? Isn't it about creating a body?"

"The conception potion has flaws; it merely increases the probability! The child still needs to be nurtured in the mother's womb, and even if a child is born, whether emotionally or otherwise, there are always noticeable flaws, but it's the hope for the continuation of wizarding bloodlines. However, the field you're talking about involves miraculous alchemy; with this part, a transformed body could be called alchemical life, and to this day, the wizarding world hasn't reached a definitive conclusion."

Seeing Lys's confused eyes, McGonagall continued explaining.

"After all, if one day a living body identical to oneself appeared, it would be a terrifying thing."

"The essence of life is having a soul, and my creation doesn't have one; it merely simulates biological habits through arrays!"

"Child! Academics are always wondrous and full of controversy. I'm not denying your perspective; I'm just informing you that displaying this in the exam could result in a low score from a biased examiner! Just maintain your classroom level, and I assure you an O is well-deserved."

In the faculty lounge, the professors were exhausted. They had experienced students' anxiety and questions before exams in previous years.

But they had never encountered a student like Lys Black.

Constant, pervasive questioning, and sometimes she posed questions for which there was no perfect answer.

However, after this conversation, all the professors grasped a trick: when Lys Black starts acting up, tell her: doing this will affect your grades. It works wonders.

Lys sat in her dormitory, using a quick-quill to copy Herbology notes, suddenly pausing and looking up. Didn't her father say he didn't care about her grades?

She lowered her head and continued writing. Good grades would make her father happy, and her mother would look at her with satisfaction... Besides, what she wanted to keep, what she wanted to gain, didn't each require knowledge and power?
