Christian ended his call with Gabriel, his mind spinning.
Could Jennifer really be his daughter—when he was sure he couldn't father a child?
His chest tightened as he paced the study. Maybe Kayla wasn't referring to him. But the way she'd gone stiff when she saw him… the panic in her eyes… it was too suspicious to ignore.
Had the doctor been wrong? Could Kayla know something he didn't?
The questions wouldn't stop. Each one twisted his gut tighter. If Jennifer was truly his, and Kayla had known all along… it meant she'd lied to him. Pretended to care, while hiding the truth. That thought unsettled him more than he wanted to admit.
He shook his head. No—he couldn't jump to conclusions. Not yet.
Like Gabriel had said— the DNA test had to come first.
A flicker of hope lit up inside him at the thought of her truly being his. It was small, like a candle fighting the wind, but it was there.
