The Dewgong crashed heavily into the water, sending up a massive splash.
Blaziken took a step back calmly, raising its body temperature to repel the incoming splash with heat.
Daisy's expression changed drastically. How could Dewgong's Aqua Jet be completely evaporated by Blaziken's Fire Spin?
Without the momentum from Aqua Jet, Dewgong naturally lost its propulsion and fell straight down from the air.
But Silas wasn't surprised at all.
After the previous exchange, Blaziken had already raised the overall temperature of the battlefield. The water had warmed up significantly, so reaching the evaporation point was relatively easier.
The main problem was that Dewgong's Aqua Jet came in a straight line, making it easy for Fire Spin to engulf it completely.
"Rock Slide," Silas ordered.
Of course, he chose to continue the assault.
Since he couldn't yet determine whether Dewgong's Ability was Thick Fat (which reduces damage from Fire- and Ice-type moves) or Hydration (which cures status conditions in rain), it was safest to use a Rock-type move with super-effective power. Otherwise, Fire-type moves would've also been effective, especially considering how proficient Blaziken was with them.
Chunks of rock condensed in Blaziken's hands and were hurled toward the water. Fortunately, the field's pool was fairly deep, so there wasn't an immediate risk of the water overflowing though if Blaziken kept throwing rocks non-stop, being a still body of water, it would eventually spill over.
But Dewgong wouldn't last long enough for that to happen otherwise, the referee would've already declared a loss.
Thud! Thud! Thud-thud!
Blaziken accurately hurled rocks into the area where Dewgong had just fallen.
"Use Dive Attack!"
Daisy quickly issued a command. If Dewgong kept taking damage bit by bit like this, it would be bad. She needed to switch to offense.
"Stay alert and dodge," Silas instructed.
Blaziken stood on the fixed platform and stopped attacking.
Calm and composed, Blaziken remained motionless, focusing its senses to detect the vibrations in its surroundings.
Swish!Thump!
A flash of white burst from beneath the surface as Dewgong broke through the water. With a slight push off the platform, Blaziken leapt high into the air. Its agility and leaping ability were no joke.
Missing its target, Dewgong angrily slapped the battlefield with the fins on its sides.
"Dewww-gooo!"
Come down here! Dewgong fumed. It found this opponent extremely annoying fighting aerial battles against a grounded Pokémon like itself? Was Blaziken just playing unfair?
"Focus Energy, then Blaze Kick."
"Use Aqua Tail!" Sakura shouted in response.
While still midair, Blaziken narrowed its eyes, entering a state of intense concentration. This was the sign of Focus Energy in action.
Then, as its body descended rapidly, flames enveloped its legs. From faint sparks, the fire burst into a blazing inferno in an instant.
With incredible momentum, Blaziken dove toward Dewgong.
Dewgong twisted its body, its tail wrapped in a spiraling column of water. Like a crashing wave, it swung its large tail upwards to strike Blaziken.
Just as the two Pokémon's leg and tail were about to collide, Blaziken executed a nimble forward somersault in midair a move perfected through intense training. The timing was flawless.
Dewgong's Aqua Tail just barely swept underneath Blaziken's body.
"Dew-gooo!"
Dewgong cried out in alarm, sensing danger.
It had used its body's rotation to swing its tail, increasing the move's power. But since it missed Blaziken, it lost control over its body and couldn't dodge the incoming attack.
Duang~
With its powerful legs wreathed in flames, Blaziken struck Dewgong hard at the neck.
Dewgong let out a cry of pain as its entire body was slammed onto the platform with tremendous force.
"Brick Break, Low Kick, Double Kick—then Thunder Punch!" Silas commanded.
With Silas's command, Blaziken responded in perfect sync, launching into the combo with fluid precision.
One of its claws slightly drew back, shining with a white light as it delivered a heavy Brick Break to Dewgong's body just as it had begun to rise, sending it crashing back down.
Then came a Low Kick, lightly powered but enough to lift Dewgong off the ground slightly.
Next was a Double Kick, both feet striking Dewgong and sending it flying forward and upward, just above Blaziken.
Dewgong cried out in pain as it flailed in midair, its body out of control. The more it struggled, the more it lost balance.
Blaziken took a fighting stance left leg forward, right leg back looking like a seasoned martial artist.
Its tightly clenched fists crackled with electricity. Zap! Zap!
Two rapid punches struck Dewgong squarely while it was still airborne.
Don't underestimate this simple combo—Blaziken had trained hard to pull off such seamless skill transitions. If even one move was a beat too slow, the whole chain would fall apart.
Blaziken's overwhelming power sent Dewgong flying backward out of the battlefield. It landed outside the arena with its eyes spiraling completely knocked out.
Swoosh!
The referee raised the flag. "Dewgong is unable to battle! Blaziken wins!"
"The winner of this Gym Battle is the challenger, Silas Alaric!"
Daisy, her expression grim, withdrew her Dewgong.
Although she knew her skills as a Trainer were average, she hadn't expected to lose so one-sidedly. Even with a two-on-one advantage and the elemental matchup in her favor, she had only slightly worn down Silas's Blaziken.
She had barely landed a single hit on it the entire match.
Naturally, she was in no mood to feel happy.
She forced a smile as she congratulated Silas and told him he could collect the Cerulean Gym's Blue Badge at the front desk, then left the battlefield.
Silas shrugged helplessly. It wasn't like he wanted it to go that way but Daisy's battle strategy had too many holes, and that's what led to the outcome. He hadn't even needed to use most of the backup plans he prepared yesterday.
Still… maybe she was being a bit petty. Brock had taken his loss like a champ, hadn't he?
He muttered to himself.
At the Cerulean Gym front desk, Silas handed over his Trainer ID card. After confirmation, he received his second badge—the Cerulean Blue Badge, shaped like a solid droplet of water, beautifully designed.
Marking the moment with a small celebration, he flicked the badge into the air like a coin, caught it smoothly, and turned around with flair, ready to leave.
Silas felt cool as hell.
And then he saw a man with short silver hair standing right in front of him.
The two locked eyes, both wearing blank expressions, and gave each other curt nods. Silas casually put his badge into the badge case and walked out of the gym.
Faintly, behind him, he could hear a voice from the staff:
"Trainer Toru Suzuki, congratulations on earning the Cerulean Gym's Blue Badge. Please—"
Toru Suzuki, huh? From his appearance and demeanor, he looked like a fellow Trainer. Silas made a mental note.
