Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 - Padfoot Inn

"What? Master of the Whispering Forest Hut?" Leif's expression looked puzzled. The two settled at the dining hall of Padfoot Inn. Leif had no choice but to drive the wagon to a comfortable Inn. If he left her alone surely she'd be bagged in a sack by human traffickers in a blink of an eye. Then he won't hear the end of it from that old man Jo and the devil twins.

"I don't know anyone by that description. I'm sure I don't have any relation to anyone crazy enough to build a hut in the Whispering Forest."

"I see, I thought as much but you see your mana looked fairly familiar to Ember and Fig here." Elysia was holding something in her palms but Leif could not see anything.

" I hope you're not crazy enough to go there alone since that place has been declared a red zone." He said with an air of caution focusing on the important information.

"Welcome! Will you two love birds be staying in one room?" The enthusiastic innkeeper asked.

"No! We're not - I'm not - she's not!" Leif said all flustered unable to form a cohesive sentence.

"Anyway, I don't know anything about this Ember or familiar mana or whatever. I've dropped you here at the Inn. You're safe now. Make sure to write to that crazy old man that you've settled in. And if you're visiting those evil twins, make sure to tell them where you're staying!" He said practically dashing away from the Inn.

Elysia was left with unanswered questions, Ember and Fig invisible to everyone else sat helplessly on Elysia's palms.

"Well, it's like Master's Mana is not there at all." Fig observed.

"I agree it's like he's a completely different person." Ember look deflated.

"There's not much I can do he already left," Elysia said looking at the swinging doors of the Inn where Leif hurried away.

"There! there! Now little miss! There's no need to fret a little sweet girl like you could bag any man no need to feel so disheartened over that one. I know what could cheer you up! You can have a nice meal and comfortable bed here at the Inn to forget all your troubles - so how long will you be staying?" The innkeeper interjected.

Elysia's gaze finally caught on the pair of pointed, furred ears twitching atop his head and the bushy tail swaying behind him. She blinked in surprise, realizing she had been so focused on his words that she hadn't noticed that he was a beastkin "Well no, you misunderstood I was just..." Elysia thought to explain but the lengthy conversation might take her a long while to explain. "I'll be staying for a fortnight."

"A fortnight with a meal every morning will be at 5 gold coins a night for 7 nights that will be 35 gold coins. We also have a more luxurious accommodation with a private bath and personal maid at 20 gold per night." the innkeeper explained.

"A private bath?" Elysia's eyes sparkled. She hasn't had a bath in ages. She's only managed to clean herself with showers thanks to Agua.

"Yes little miss, and that'll be a total of 140 gold we do require a full payment." the Innkeeper explained.

"I would like the room with a private bath please!" Elysia slammed the money on the reception table.

"Thank you patron! right this way!" the innkeeper was excited to receive such an amount.

As Elysia stepped into the room, her breath caught at the sight of the ornate window framing the golden hues of the sunset outside. The glow bathed the polished oak furniture in a soft, inviting light, accentuating the writing desk tucked neatly to the side, complete with a stack of parchment and an inkwell. Her fingers brushed over the thick, clean linens of the bed, marveling at the softness of the fabric and the plushness of the mattress beneath.

A crackling fireplace filled the space with a gentle warmth, accompanied by a cozy armchair that seemed to beckon her to sit and unwind. Her gaze shifted to the delicate folding divider, its intricate carvings hiding the one thing she wanted the most - a bathtub!

"Wow! What is this Elysia?" Paku was the first to come out of the necklace.

"It's a bathtub Paku, you fill it with warm water, fragrances and soak it in to feel refreshed!"

"It looks so big!" Gale sat on the edge of the tub.

"Then shall I fill it with water for you Elysia?" Agua said looking at the polished wooden tub.

"Do you put fire underneath? like to cook you?" Ember asked looking at the bottom.

"Well not quite underneath" Elysia chuckled at the idea.

"I've seen Master use this before but it was much bigger, he would use some flowers" Fig floated over the tub.

"That's an excellent Idea Fig, flower petals sounds so luxurious, shall we give that a try?"

There was a soft yet deliberate knock, a polite rhythm of three taps against the door. A muffled voice followed, warm and respectful: "Miss, I've brought the hot water for your bath. May I enter?"

"Please come in," Elysia responded excited at the prospect of a bath. The older maid was accompanied by a younger maid who was carrying a small bucket with steaming water.

"Miss, I am Glisinda and I will be your maid for the duration of your stay." Glisinda curtsied with practiced poised.

"Glisinda, I am Elysia. It's nice to meet you" Elysia introduced herself and turned to the younger maid next to Glisinda.

"May I know what time shall we serve your supper?" Glisinda inquired.

"I think just right after my bath if you please." Elysia said excited about soaking in warm bath.

"As you wish miss, I will inform the kitchen, please excuse us as we prepare your bath." The two curtsied and the younger maid poured the bucket of water into the tub. It's small amount barely made an inch. Glisinda the older maid started arranging towels and essential oils for the tub.

"Agua?" Elysia whispered under her breath.

"Don't worry Elysia I'll follow the girl and see where the water source is," Agua confirmed.

A few moments later when the young maid returned carrying another bucket, as she filled in the tub she turned and her eyes widened, behind her was a floating blob of water enough to fill the entire tub.

Without notice, the water easily floated past her filling the entire tub and basin that was next to it. Unbeknownst to Glisinda she saw the tub completely full and looked at the young maid confused.

"Hetty, did you fill the tub already that was fast" she whispered to the young maid. She then, felt the touch of the water. It was icy. "Hetty I told you to use the hot water, we'll have to change this now"

"That I , " Hetty tried to explain.

" No worries," Elysia intervened listening in to their conversation "Ember" she uttered and small fireballs appeared mid air and was slowly dropped to the tub.

The older maid more experienced with adventurers and mages, curtsied "I apologize for making you use magic miss."

"It's no trouble at all," Elysia reassured her.

"Then shall I assist you in disrobing miss" Glisinda walked towards Elysia.

Elysia feeling a little uncomfortable having someone assist her in a bath said, "No need for that, I can manage myself."

Glisinda pulled back and curtsied once more "Then miss, if there's anything else. I will inform the kitchen to prepare your supper."

"Thank you Glisinda," Elysia politely thanked.

As the two maid exited the room, Elysia could here Hetty trying to explain to Glisinda what just happened.

Paku looked at the water and dipped his toes in "Is it safe to go in?"

"Not yet, first we must get rid of the grim and scrub down!" Elysia hurried to the washing basin. Beside it lay an array of simple yet fragrant essentials. A carved wooden soap dish held a bar of herb-infused soap, its lavender and rosemary scent mingling with the steam from the heated water. Elysia first started with water and soap then she reached out for a coarse scrubbing cloth that hung neatly over the edge of the basin.

She scrubbed off the grim and dirt of her body. She rinsed until she felt clean, feeling fresh and well-cleansed.

"Ember" Elysia asked wanting to keep the water warm.

"Will this many do?" Ember asked, as small balls of fire immersed in the water again.

"That's just about right!" She said feeling the warmth of the water. She stepped in and gave into the warm water, sighing with relief as the fatigue of the weeks before seem to melt away.

"Your mana feels much more calm," Gale said trying to dip her own little feet on the water.

"Here Elysia these are some ylang-ylang flowers I've grown in the necklace."

"They smell divine!" Elysia smelled the petals as it was added to the bath, making the bath an intensely sweet, exotic floral aroma. Elysia took the necklace and looked into the terrarium. "You started growing plants in the terrarium Fig?"

"Just flowers and herbs, I try not to plant as much since Sera and Phine need space to run around as well." Fig explained.

"That reminds me I should probably have Sera and Phine take baths too."

"Lupinaras are well-cleaned creatures Elysia, they groom themselves well in the spring. Though Phine isn't used to staying in small spaces for long." Ember explained.

"You're right, I bet this necklace was meant for you sprite siblings, I should make time to go to a park or outside to let them run around." Elysia said.

"I bet Phine would enjoy walking around," Agua said feeling giddy.

"I haven't gotten a chance to walk around Arvandale but we can go explore the city tomorrow! We've spent a lot of gold coins already. I have to find a way to earn some of the coins I've used." Elysia said sighing.

Agua and Fig looked at each other sensing Elysia's worry, "You don't have to worry about the coins Elysia. I'm sure the master would be alright with you using them after all you used it to help us find him" Fig said trying to assure her.

"When we find him, I'm sure Master would understand you needed to use the coins" Agua added.

"Yeah that good for nothing master- I'll burn him if he complains!" Ember said assuringly.

"Don't be silly I'm sure your master worked hard to save this coin, I'm only borrowing for the time being. I will return everything of his eventually." Elysia said realizing the weight of her words. This also meant that she would part ways with the Sprite Siblings - returning them to their true master.

"I thought about it Elysia!" Gale who was usually soft spoken, clenched her fist with determination and announced her plan, "I thought of a way for you to be with us and our master. You just have to marry master!"

The room fell into an abrupt silence, the weight of Gale's bold declaration hanging in the air. Elysia blinked in stunned disbelief, her cheeks flushing as the unexpected suggestion left everyone momentarily speechless.

"Gale! I don't think.." Elysia started to say.

"Elysia and the Master?" Fig's eyes started to tear up at the prospect of a wonderful match.

"What a wonderful idea!" Agua said blushing holding her cheeks.

"Isn't it!" Gale clasped her hands together her eyes looking up with a dreamy sparkle.

"Don't worry Elysia if that man ever mistreats you I'll burn all his hair off!" Ember declared.

"Hold on you guys! I don't even know your master and I'm too young for marriage anyway. And besides we'll need to travel around to find clues about his whereabouts so we'll still need some money. And you never know your master might get angry at me for spending all his hard earned money" Elysia tried to explain feeling flustered about their match-making thoughts.

Plop! a Gold ingot fell into the tub. Elysia looked at Paku "If we give master this? He won't get angry at you anymore right?"

Elysia's eyes widened in shock, her expression frozen in disbelief as she stared at the gold ingot now gleaming in the tub. "Where on earth did you get this Paku?"

Paku held another rock and pointed at the group of pebbles clustered together "Was I not supposed to? I tried to make it the same thing as the coin but I can't change the shape." Paku concentrated again and this time he made Silver ingot.

"Paku that's it you're a genius!" Elysia said looking at the Gold and Silver ingot.

*****

The next day, Elysia, feeling well-fed and rested, stepped out into the bustling streets of Arvandale with her familiars in tow. The morning air was crisp and the lively hum and chatter of merchants, adventurers, and city folks filled the air.

"The weather today feels nice. Thank you for accompanying me today Hetty," Elysia said to Hetty trailing behind their small group. Sera, Phine and the Sprite siblings behind Elysia. The Sprite siblings still invisible to everyone.

"It is my pleasure miss." Hetty said in a practiced perfect response. Feeling a bit awkward since people were staring at them.

Who wouldn't stare at them, two Lupinaras walking the streets of Arvandale is quite a sight. Hetty knew that their guest was a talented mage who could control water but she didn't expect her to be a tamer as well. She can hear the whispers of the people as they passed by.

"Do you see that?" one person whispered, barely able to contain their amazement. "Two Lupinaras... two! I've only read about them in books!"

Another voice murmured, "And they're walking so calmly by her side. Do you think she's a tamer?"

A third, bolder voice spoke up, "She must be some kind of tamer or maybe a noblewoman. Only someone with that kind of power could keep them tame like that."

The crowd buzzed with speculation, their awe slowly turning to nervous whispers. Some tried to hide their fear behind market stalls and carts, glancing out from behind them, eyes wide.

"Stay back," one person urged, clutching their companion's arm. "I heard Lupinaras can tear a man to shreds in an instant. What if that thing runs wild?"

But another, still watching with fascination, replied, "But look at them—they're so majestic I've never seen one before! incredible."

The whispers continued to swirl through the crowd as Elysia walked past by, Hetty looked at Elysia's expression serene and unbothered by the attention. Sera and Phine seemed unfazed, their eyes only briefly catching on to the people around them before returning to Elysia.

One of the braver onlookers leaned closer to their companion. "I bet she's someone important," they said, eyes narrowed with curiosity. "Which guild do you think she's from? She's a B-Rank adventurer at least."

Another whispered back, "Look beside her it's a maid from Padfoot Inn, only C or A Rankers usually stay in that kind of Inn."

"It's too bad the twins couldn't come with us today, I should get them settled at the end after their training." Elysia recalled when she visited the twins at the Boundless Guild this morning, both clung to her like two stray puppies before being dragged away by the trainer.

"I hope I didn't bother your work today." Elysia asked remembering how at the start of the morning she informed them that she'll walk around the city.

"Not at all miss, as our dear guest at Padfoot Inn I am happy to accompany you." Hetty said formally. She could not help but wonder about their guest. She looks like an ordinary girl yet she has refinement like a noble. She knew how to read and write. Also when they cleaned the bath Hetty saw the bath filled with Ylang-ylang petals. Ylang-ylang petals were a rare commodity, when the innkeeper knew about it, he started treating Elysia with extra care.

"Elysia, you can just call me Elysia - miss seems too formal." She insisted since this morning that Hetty and Glisinda just called her Elysia.

"Well - I umm" Hetty hesitated. "Yes miss Elysia" she said, trying to comply.

"No just Elysia please, it feels a bit odd."

"E-Elysia," she stuttered "Which store would you like to visit first?"

Elysia smiled. "Well, there are quite a few things I'd like to get today. I need terrarium, clothes, some sweets would be nice, a carriage, maybe visit a blacksmith, books... oh, and some land."

Hetty, who had been nodding along, repeated. "Terrarium, clothes, sweets, carriage, blacksmith, books ... and some land—some land?!" She barely managed to keep her calm facade, but her widened eyes betrayed her shock. Land? Was she serious? Just how wealthy was this person to speak of purchasing land so casually?

Yes! Can one not buy land here?" Elysia asked innocently.

Hetty cleared her throat and forced herself to recompose. "Of course, miss Elysia. Since you have quite a list, I believe we can get everything arranged if we go to a Merchant Guild Group Building. It's a one-stop shop for all high-end transactions." She turned and gestured toward a grand set of gilded doors.

Above the entrance, an elegant sign read: "Gilded Ledger Merchant Group– Private Trade Hall."

The lettering was intricately inscribed in flowing script, edged with delicate golden filigree, a silent declaration of exclusivity. The moment they stepped inside, the atmosphere shifted—the scent of polished wood, parchment, and faint traces of enchantment filled the air. This was no ordinary market; it was a place where magic and commerce intertwined seamlessly, catering only to elite clientele.

Unlike a traditional shop, patrons did not browse cluttered shelves. Instead, plush seating areas were arranged in intimate spaces, separated by delicate silk screens for privacy. Attendants, dressed in pristine livery, moved gracefully between guests, presenting exquisite wares on velvet-lined trays. Fine tea and honeyed wine were served as merchants unveiled handwoven silks, enchanted jewelry, and masterfully crafted weapons, each piece a testament to its buyer's prestige.

Elysia took in the spectacle, but before she could admire it further, a sharp, unimpressed voice interrupted.

"Hello, welcome—" the merchant attendant at the entrance began, then stopped abruptly. His expression shifted from polite indifference to veiled disdain as his gaze landed on Hetty. "Oh. It's you."

Elysia turned to face the speaker—a thin, sharp-featured man clad in a fine silk vest embroidered with the golden crest of the Gilded Ledger Group. His nameplate read Mr. Veldon Garwick, and his smirk carried the unmistakable air of superiority.

"What is Padfoot Inn's maid doing here?" he asked, crossing his arms.

Hetty, maintaining her composure, responded with a polite but firm smile. "Hello, Mr. Garwick. I'm here accompanying a guest who has business with the hall."

Veldon's gaze flickered to Elysia, scanning her practical attire and the two Lupinaras behind her with thinly veiled skepticism. "I see. Welcome, Miss. I take it you're new here? Might I see your adventurer's card?"

Elysia blinked, "I don't have one."

"You... don't have one?" Garwick's tone turned mocking as his gaze flickered past her to the two Lupinara stalking obediently behind her.

Hetty feeling cornered realized she didn't bother to ask if Elysia about her adventurer's ID as most guest we're adventurers or nobles at Padfoot Inn

"Then perhaps you have your identification or your noble house sigil?" He continued to assess.

Without hesitation, Elysia handed over the gate pass she received when entering the city.

Garwick took one look at the card and scoffed as he read Grayridge. Feigned politeness barely masked his disdain as he said, "Ah. I'm afraid we're fully booked today, ma'am."

He handed the pass back dismissively.

Garwick gave Hetty a look as if to convey Why did you bring such trash over to our prestigious halls?

Hetty just looked down on her feet closing her eyes as the realization of her mistake sunk in. She should have remembered that this place was exclusive to adventurers and aristocrats, now their guest will lose face.

Elysia raised an eyebrow. "But there are empty seats right there."

"I'm sorry, little girl," Garwick sneered, his tone shifting condescendingly, "but this is a fine establishment, and we do not allow just anybody here."

Hetty's composure wavered, anger flashing in her eyes. "She is a guest at Padfoot Inn. We have a mutual agreement that —"

"The Padfoot Inn must be ever so desperate for customers these days," Garwick scoffed, his eyes flicking over Elysia with barely concealed contempt.

Hetty gasped at the insult, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "How—how dare you!"

Before she could retaliate, Elysia gently placed a hand on her arm. "It's alright, Hetty. We can take our business elsewhere."

Before Garwick could revel in his petty triumph, a smooth, amused voice interrupted from behind them.

"Aren't you the girl from Grayridge?"

Garwick visibly stiffened, his expression shifting from arrogance to sudden, forced politeness. "Master Merchant Ofster! What a pleasure to see you again! Do you... know this little girl?"

"Indeed, I do." Ofster's sharp eyes gleamed with recognition. He gestured toward Elysia with a smirk. "Can't you tell? She's wearing a dress from my caravan."

Garwick visibly paled.

Elysia turned and recognized the man. "It's you! Your the merchant from Grayridge"

"Indeed," Ofster chuckled. "Now, what brings you here? Come to buy a new dress?"

"Some clothes for a long journey—and a few other things," Elysia said, delighted to see a familiar face.

"Then what are you waiting for, Garwick? Show us in," Ofster said, waving a hand impatiently.

Garwick hesitated, clearing his throat. "Well, Master Merchant Ofster, you see, the little girl—I mean, our dear guest —doesn't have a membership. And as per the rules of the establishment, we also require a Tamer's ID for creatures. Without it, she—"

"Nonsense, lad." Ofster cut him off with a dismissive wave. "I'll vouch for her, and my guild will handle her needs personally. That's alright with you, isn't it, miss? Our Merchant Guild is quite expansive—I daresay we have everything you could possibly require."

Elysia glanced at Sera and Phine, flanking her protectively. "Can they enter too?"

"Fine creatures they are. As long as you agree to pay if they bite off anything valuable." he said jokingly.

Elysia smiled, "I promise they will be on their best behavior."

Satisfied, he turned and led them toward a more secluded section of the hall. "Now, come along—this way little lady."

"Please, call me Elysia," she corrected politely as she followed him into an exclusive showroom. Hetty trailing behind them.

As soon as the doors closed Garwick watched in disbelief. Garwick watched as Ofster's guild members bustled back and forth, moving with urgency as if a fire had been lit beneath them. He scoffed, arms crossed.

A few moments later having nothing to do Garwick joined a group of onlookers who was watching the door to the private Salon of Master Merchant Ofster's Guild. "That Ofster—always turning everything into a spectacle,"

"Who do you think is inside?" one of them asked, lowering their voice. "He never brings just anyone into their private room."

Garwick smirked. "I'd wager she's just sending everything back. Ofster can put on all the fanfare he wants, but in the end, he's just wasting his time."

"Glad I'm not in his guild," another attendant grumbled. "Running around like that over one customer? Ridiculous."

Garwick leaned against the counter, eyes glinting with amusement. "Who wants to bet that child didn't buy a thing?" He grinned, itching to start a betting pool but before he could the doors to the private hall opened and Elysia walked out with Ofster putting up a smile.

He knew it, Garwick smiled condescendingly, the little girl had nothing in hand.

"Thank you for your time Mr. Ofster, are you sure it's alright for us to take the pastries? You even gave us treats for Sera and Phine," Elysia said, looking at the delicious snacks

"Yes of course, and it was my pleasure being of service." Mr. Ofster said escorting Hetty and Elysia to the door.

As soon as Elysia and Hetty were our of earshot Garwick immediately said, "As you can see Master Merchant Ofster I had good judge of character. The girl came out empty handed and only wasted your precious time."

"Garwick I think I shall write a letter to the Council of this Establishment and have you reassigned."

"What an honor to have your recommendation, Master Merchant Ofster."

"I think you're misunderstanding me, you have no discerning eye whatsoever. Go ahead and look at the room."

Garwick strode toward the private room, still wearing his smug expression—until he stepped inside.

His breath caught.

At the center of the lavish chamber stood a large, reinforced trunk, its lid slightly ajar, revealing a staggering wealth of treasures within.

Stacks of gleaming gold and silver ingots lay neatly arranged, their polished surfaces catching the light of the enchanted sconces. Nestled between them were pouches of coins. Scattered among the wealth were raw and cut mana stones, their cores pulsating with a faint, otherworldly glow.

Atop it all sat exquisite jewels in every shade imaginable—sapphires as deep as the ocean, emeralds as rich as the forest, rubies burning like captured fire.

"But that girl didn't even have a single pouch with her! How did she bring any of this inside?" Garwick asked.

"You know nothing young man, you almost turned down this establishment this much business." the weight of his amusement heavy. "Perhaps you should invest in discernment skill building."

"Impossible that girl was from Grayridge!" Garwick said.

"Manalara lumber has resurfaced in the market do you remember me telling you that earlier?" Ofster asked.

"Yes! And that thing has been selling by it's weight in Gold. What's that got to do with this?" Garwick still confused.

"The Manalara trees we're from Grayridge and according to my resources that child entered the Padfoot Inn just yesterday."

"So?" Garwick still looked perplex

"Must I spell it out to you? A person from Grayridge - Padfoot Inn Yesterday - Manalara tree also yesterday. She is possibly the source of those manalara trees!" Ofster said sighing.

"What just happened in there exactly?"

*****

A few moments earlier when Elysia was escorted inside.

The private chamber was a stark contrast to the bustling hall outside. The walls were lined with dark mahogany and inlaid with gold filigree, illuminated by enchanted crystal sconces that cast a soft, ambient glow. A plush seating area dominated the center, featuring deep-cushioned chairs upholstered in rich ruby red velvet, embroidered with intricate silver thread. A low ebony table, polished to a mirror sheen, sat between them, already set with an assortment of fine teas and delicate confections for esteemed patrons.

As they stepped inside, Sera immediately lay down beside Elysia's chair, her movements elegant and composed, as if she belonged there. Phine, however, had other ideas. Her nose twitched as she began sniffing around the entire chamber, her curiosity leading her straight to the lavish spread of pastries and tea on the table.

Before she could snatch a treat, Elysia spoke gently. "Phine, sit. You'll get something delicious later."

Phine hesitated, casting a longing glance at the food, before begrudgingly trotting over to settle beside Sera.

Ofster chuckled amused at how intimidating Lupinaras form was reduced to a sight of obedient pets besides this little girl. "Well-trained, but a glutton, I see."

He turned to the attendant, who had been watching the scene with barely concealed wariness looking at the giant Lupinaras. "Prepare some food for them, will you? My treat, for the minor inconvenience outside."

Elysia smiled. "That's very kind of you."

Ofster waved it off. "Think of it as a welcoming gesture."

Elysia noticed Hetty standing among the attendants, "Hetty, come sit."

"I wouldn't dare miss" Hetty said, shocked at Elysia's request.

"It's alright isn't Mr. Ofster, come sit and help me recall what I need to purchase. I'm afraid I might forget something."

Ofster chuckled, leaning back comfortably. "The more you remember, the more business for me," he said with a knowing smirk. With practiced ease, he poured tea into delicate porcelain cups and handed them to Elysia and Hetty.

"Now then, you said you needed clothes for travel?" He snapped his fingers, and almost instantly, a small team of merchandise attendants entered, pushing in polished mahogany racks lined with an exquisite array of travel attire.

The first attendant presented a collection soft long lilac and periwinkle coat lined with soft fur, the inner lining woven from enchanted silk that adjusted to the wearer's body temperature. "Perfect for colder regions, yet light enough for movement," he explained, draping it over a mannequin.

Next came a collection high-collared tunic with silver embroidery, designed with hidden seams for reinforced durability in different colors. "This one is crafted with spell-thread," another attendant chimed in, demonstrating how water slid right off the fabric. "It repels rain and stains—practical for long journeys."

A third attendant unveiled a few more items of fitted riding leathers, supple yet elegantly stitched with filigree, paired with a hooded cloak woven from shadow-dyed wool. "For those who prefer stealth," the merchant added with a wink, "or just wish to travel unseen."

Hetty gasped in delight as another mannequin was dressed in a flowing ivory tunic cinched with a corset-style leather belt, paired with soft woolen leggings and knee-high, hand-stitched boots. "Sturdy enough for travel, refined enough for any noble estate you might visit," the merchant assured with a bow.

Elysia reached out, running her fingers over a midnight-blue cloak trimmed with fox fur, appreciating its warmth without excessive weight. "These are all so beautiful," she murmured.

Ofster grinned. "Practicality doesn't have to be ugly, my dear. Is there a set you prefer?"

"I shall take all of them!" Elysia declared, beaming with delight at the practical yet fashionable selection before her. The attendants exchanged excited glances—few customers ever purchased an entire collection in one go.

"Excellent choice!" Ofster said, pleased, before taking a sip of his tea. "A well-dressed traveler is a prepared one."

Elysia touched the delicate pendant resting against her collarbone, it's blue hue matching her deep eyes. "I also need a Terrarium—one similar to this necklace, but large enough for Sera and Phine."

At that, Ofster raised an eyebrow as he inspected the necklace. "Astonishing I have never seen such detailed work. Where did you purchase this?"

"It was a - a gift" Elysia stammered. At this notion Ofster started forming speculation at his guest. This person was no ordinary little girl having such a treasure with her made Ofster think she was as rich as the nobles in this city.

"This is a request I don't hear every day." He gestured to one of the attendants, who promptly disappeared into the back. A few moments later, they returned with a carefully wrapped velvet box.

With a practiced flourish, Ofster opened it to reveal a Terrarium—a stunning gemstone that shimmered with shifting landscapes, the magic within forming a vast open field bathed in golden light. Though beautiful, it lacked the intricate craftsmanship of Elysia's own piece.

"This is the finest I have at the moment," Ofster admitted. "Not quite as detailed as yours but they are made of the same stone material, the spatial capacity within is more than enough for your companions. With the right craftsman, it can be embedded into your current necklace, expanding its subspace."

Elysia studied the gemstone, it had an expansive wide field big enough to create acres of forest just like the Whispering Forest. "It's beautiful," she said thoughtfully. "How soon can it be reforged?"

Ofster smirked. "For the right price? By the time you finish your tea!"

"Alright! I'd appreciate it." Elysia handed her necklace and the attendants went back to have it crafted.

"Right is there anything else you need?"

"A carriage—just a plain one for easy travel," Elysia said, setting her teacup down.

"Plain, you say?" Ofster chuckled. "Let's see what our craftsmen have drawn up."

An attendant stepped forward, unrolling a series of elegant parchment sketches across the table. Each detailed blueprint displayed fine craftsmanship, though none could truly be called plain.

Ofster gestured, "Here are three designs from our finest craftsmen," he said, tapping the first with a finger.

"This is the Reinforced Nomad's Wagon—built for endurance and protection," he explained, revealing a sturdy, enclosed wooden carriage reinforced with iron bands and arcane sigils. The design featured a compact living space, complete with foldable sleeping cots, hidden storage compartments, and even a small built-in stove. "It's favored by long-haul merchants and adventurers who need both security and comfort," he added.

Next, he slid forward another sketch. "This one is the Whispering Wind Caravan—lightweight, built for speed." The drawing showed a sleek, capsule-shaped carriage with an elegantly curved frame. While the exterior was modest the wheels were enchanted with wind magic to reduce drag and ensure a smooth ride. The interior was efficient, good for two people. "Perfect for those who value mobility and efficiency over bulk," Ofster noted with a smirk.

Finally, he unraveled the third design, the most ornate of them all. "And this is the Celestial Voyager—a true home on the road." The large, double-axle carriage was adorned with intricate carvings and enchanted lanterns that glowed softly at night. The interior boasted a spacious lounge, a writing desk, and a concealed alchemy station, making it ideal for scholars, high-ranking adventurers, or nobles traveling in style. "It moves slower than the other two, but its enchantments ensure the journey is as comfortable as staying in a well-appointed inn," Ofster finished.

Elysia studied the designs thoughtfully, her fingers trailing over the elegant lines of the Whispering Wind Caravan. "This one," she decided. "It's practical and I do prefer to avoid jostling on travels."

Ofster grinned. "A fine choice—fast, sturdy. We have a few in storage and it'll be ready within two days where shall we send it to?"

"At Padfoot Inn, that's where I'll be staying for the fortnight," Elysia said, taking another sip of her tea. "I'm looking for a few books—anything on magic, healing, or combat. Do you have any?"

Ofster quirked a brow, eyeing her petite frame with curiosity. "That sounds like something an adventurer would need," he mused. "Dare I ask—are you an adventurer, miss?"

Elysia smiled, unfazed by his skepticism. "Not quite. They're for my younger—erm—cousins."

"Ah," Ofster nodded. "Are they training to be adventurers?"

"Yes, at the Boundless Guild."

"The Boundless Guild?!" Ofster's eyes widened slightly before he let out a chuckle. "Now that is impressive. Adventurers in the family—I must admit, I envy you quite a bit."

He leaned back and gestured to an attendant. At once, several attendants stepped forward, carrying stacks of beautifully bound books.

Elysia frowned slightly at the response, her expression thoughtful yet disappointed. "I already have these books"

Ofster, ever the keen businessman, immediately leaned forward in his seat, sensing an opportunity slipping away. He prided himself on ensuring customer satisfaction, and the last thing he wanted was not to complete a client's shopping list.

With a quick wave of his hand, he signaled to an attendant, who swiftly returned with an array of sweet delights and delicate confections arranged on a silver tray. The air filled with the warm scent of honeyed pastries, sugared fruits, and spiced chocolates.

"Ah, but don't let that discourage you, my dear!" Ofster said smoothly, flashing a charming smile. "While those books are off-limits, your cousins might need a smithy and in our merchant guild we pride ourselves with being well-connected. This is a card that allows you to enter exclusive smithy shops in town to get custom weapons."

Elysia took the card, feeling its smooth obsidian surface and the faint shimmer of gold filigree along the edges. She nibbled on a sugar cookie, the sweetness lingering as she smiled. "I'd appreciate that!"

"I'm glad to be of service," Ofster said with a pleased nod. "And just in time—your necklace has returned!"

An attendant stepped forward, presenting the reforged necklace on a plush velvet cushion. The newly embedded Terrarium stones shimmered softly, their intricate design seamlessly woven into the original piece.

"Sera! Phine!" Elysia called, and without hesitation, the two Lupinara leaped into the Terrarium's ethereal space. Peering inside, Elysia's eyes lit up with delight—the once modest sanctuary had expanded, stretching into a vast, open landscape. The sprite siblings wasted no time, flitting about as they spruced up their new home, while Sera and Phine settled comfortably within.

"They've adjusted well," Elysia observed, pleased.

"Then shall we wrap up today's shopping?" Ofster asked, standing to signal the attendants to prepare the bill.

"There's one more thing I need to purchase—"

"Oh, of course?" Ofster interrupted with a knowing smirk. "We haven't gotten you travel shoes, have we?"

"No, not shoes."

"Gloves?"

"No."

"Hats?" He turned to Hetty for assistance.

Hetty shook her head knowing Elysia was looking to purchase something more.

"Land," Elysia said simply.

"Ah, land! Naturally, one would need—" Ofster began, only to pause mid-sentence. "Land?!"

"Right. Some land," she confirmed.

Ofster looked at her trying to hide his shock, "And do you have a specific location in mind?"

Elysia took a graceful sip of her tea before replying, "Somewhere near Arvandale—secluded, with a mountain, and ideally near a village similar to Grayridge."

"We have a selection of land deeds in the market," Ofster said, regaining his composure. "A few nobles are looking to sell parcels of their estates. I'll have an attendant gather the listings for you to review. Of course, you'll need to survey the area before making a final purchase."

"That won't be necessary," Elysia replied smoothly. "I'll take the one closest to Arvandale."

"Purchasing land sight unseen—" Ofster muttered, rubbing his chin. "You're quite decisive, aren't you?"

He then asked the attendants, his eyes seemingly gleaming with Gold Ingots "Fetch the records. Let's see what we can offer our boldest client today."

"As for the payment, will you require installments or credit due to your household estate?" Ofster asked, lacing his fingers together in an attempt to contain his excitement. This was it—his entire goal had been to confirm her noble status and establish a lasting connection.

Elysia retrieved a pouch from her storage ring— "Could you tell me how much everything costs?"

The attendants, who had spent the afternoon running back and forth, paused when they saw Elysia pull out a small sack of coins. They exchanged whispers, skeptical of the situation.

"Surely she doesn't think she can pay for everything with such a tiny purse?"

"Master Merchant Ofster just wasted our entire morning —this can't possibly be enough."

Hetty, feeling embarrassed, sat with her eyes shut. She chastised herself internally for not inquiring about Elysia's finances earlier. If Elysia charge everything to the Padfoot Inn with a promissory payment like most nobles do, it would be a disastrous loss.

As Elysia sifted through her coin purse, she suddenly remembered something. "Oh, I also wanted your help. Do you buy items as well?"

Ofster, more experienced than anyone in the room, maintained a patient smile. "Of course. What are you looking to sell?"

Elysia reached into her bag and pulled out a mana stone, placing it in Ofster's hands.

His eyes widened. "This... this is a mana stone!"

The attendants gasped. The stone was enormous, its surface swirling with a mesmerizing, deep-colored vortex. It was the richest hue Ofster had ever seen.

He could have easily buy this from her at a much lower price she seemed so out of touch with cost of things as she did —any lesser merchant would—but against his conscience and professional code, he knew he had to tell her the truth.

"This is no ordinary stone," he admitted. "A mana stone of this rarity and depth is incredibly hard to come by. We cannot simply purchase it outright—it must be auctioned per the Merchant Guild's regulations."

Elysia tilted her head. "Well, can you handle that for me?"

"You mean... you want us to auction it on your behalf?"

"If it's not too much trouble. Of course, we can split the earnings fifty-fifty."

"Fifty-fifty?!" Ofster nearly choked.

"Is that too little?" Elysia asked innocently.

"N-no, miss! You are exceedingly generous. The Merchant Guild typically only takes a 10%—at most, 20%—commission. A stone of this rarity... are you certain you wish to entrust it to me?"

Elysia smiled. "Of course. My friend did say you gave a fair price." Elysia points out their first encounter at Grayridge where Leif had said to her he was a merchant who offered fair price.

Ofster straightened, his heart pounding. "I will draft the auction agreement immediately. I promise I won't let you down, miss."

"Good. Then I entrust these to you."

Elysia reached into her bag once more—and pulled out a handful of mana stones.

The room fell into stunned silence. All eyes widened in disbelief as the gleaming stones tumbled into her palm, their swirling depths reflecting the light like captured storms.

Garwick had his mouth open in disbelief as Ofster recalled the series of events in great detail.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a deed of land sale to file and an auction to plan —today is such a great day." Ofster chuckled, his smile stretching from ear to ear.
