Chapter 16 - Subduing Bandits(5)

Old John scolded Ryan for his reckless behavior and told him to go inside the house. He then locked the front door and placed a table against it as an obstruction.

John saw Ryan was downcast and reassured him that the villagers would surely subdue the villains. Many of the young people from the village have started learning martial arts from the village chief. His son has also learned martial arts from the village chief and left the village, so there's no need to worry about the villagers as they can easily handle the bandits.

Ryan calmed down after learning that many villagers knew martial arts and asked why he hadn't seen anyone practicing in the past two years.

Old John then replied: "You will be going to school early in the morning, while many young people, instead of going to school, will go to the village chief's house to learn martial arts. How can you see anyone practicing?"

Ryan understood the reason and calmly sat down next to Old John, waiting for the villagers to notify him once they had caught the bandits.

------ Scenes at the Village Square--------

After sending Ryan back to his house, the village chief began instructing the villagers.

"The bandits will surely come and attack us when our guard is down after we extinguish the lamps in our village."

"My plan is to voluntarily extinguish the lamps an hour early, hide behind the houses for cover, and attack the bandits after luring them deep into the village, using the night darkness as a weapon."

"Everyone will try to cripple the horses with their bows and then gang up on the bandits after they fall. It might cost us a few lives if we try to capture them while they're still on their horses."

The villagers agreed to the chief's plan, finding it to be feasible.

They then dispersed to their houses to make sure their family is safe by giving instructions to not come outside until they return, and they brought some weapons to defend themself.

While the rich hunters in the village have gone back to their house and wore few cloth or beast skin/leather Armours which are available to them.

The village chief and his eldest son wore armor made of steel and came to the village square which boosted the moral of the villagers.

They then waited for the time to pass patiently and arranged themselves at requires positions according to the village chief instructions.

Soon few hours passed by, and the village chief asked few villagers to extinguish some the lamps and only to keep minimum lamps burning which might give the impression everyone is sleeping.

Two more hour passed by, and the villagers were getting impatient and began to doubt the intel, as many started to waver, they heard the sounds of horse running from the entrance of the village.

Everybody tensed and began seeing each other faces in the dark and then had obvious joy on their faces as the bandits have fallen into their trap.

In the middle the sounds horses halting for a minute at the entrance was heard and then they started coming daringly into the village and passed the village square and got deeper into the village with an obvious target in minds which was the village chief's house.

As the villages waited for the bandits, they soon saw them enter the range of the bows and the village chiefs command to shoots could be heard in the night.

Soon the bow string pulling sounds can be heard and the arrows aimed at the horse feet were released which crippled all the horse and the rider fell down from the horses with a thud.

only few strong men got up and others were lying with heavy wounds after the heavy fall from the horse, then the villagers rounded them up with fought a great battle and subdued them with only few accidental injuries to the villagers.

The village chief asked the villager to tie up the bandits and treat the horses first as he didn't want any horse dying from heavy bleeding.

The villagers immediately to follow the orders and started treating the horses and found there were only 18 horses present there.

The village chief then interrogated few prisoners and found the bandit chief has sent two his goons to kill Ryan as he has a doubt that Ryan has found their conspiracy by talking to the merchant who was planted by them into the caravan.

The chief became angry and asked few fellow villagers to guard the tied-up bandits and asked the rest to follow him to Old John's house.

As they neared the house, they saw two horses tied up next to the house and the front door was knocked down and few other obvious signs of destruction at the entrance of the house.

As they began to fear they might have arrived late to protect the grandfather and the grandson, but to their astonishment they saw Ryan coming outside with a bad mood with his head down and started checking the broken door with sad expression.

"Idiots, was it necessary to break the door? If you had knocked and asked politely, I would have opened it." He turned back and went inside the house, scolding someone while stepping on two bandits who were tied up with plant vines.

"I admit I initially wanted to beat the hell out of you guys, but after hearing that our village uncles learned martial arts from the village chief, I lost my enthusiasm and waited for the show to start."

"But you guys, just because you doubted that I discovered your secret, came to my house and destroyed the front door of my house and did some damages in my house too."

"If I'm late to react a few seconds you would have destroyed half of my house right." Ryan stomped on their faces and questioned them.

One of the bandits saw the villagers present at the entrance watching everything in astonishment and immediately started shouting at them to rescue them from the devil's clutches.

The other bandit followed echoing after he saw the villager and started begging them.

Ryan was perplexed by their sudden shouting and thought their reinforcement have arrived and jumped aside and got ready to battle.

Then he saw the villager uncles standing at the door and seeing him weirdly.

Ryan felt uncomfortable with their stares and smiled at them politely and invited them into the house.

The village chief entered the house after recovering from the shock when he heard Ryan's voice and asked the villagers to take the prisoners back to the village square and take the horses with them as well.

He then saw Old John still shock so he didn't ask Ryan anything about what has transpired and said few words of comfort to John and said he will send the carpenter to the house tomorrow morning to repair the front door and asked them to adjust for today's night and left the house with other villager and prisoners in tow.

Ryan didn't take this matter seriously and was grateful for the village chief for helping them to repair the front door and sent old John back to his room to rest and he went back to his room and slept happily.
