"Croak, croak, croak." The massive sea frog let out several deep, guttural croaks. Its enormous eyes welled with emotion as it crouched low, as if sobbing in front of Princess Shirahoshi its behavior resembling a child seeking comfort.
"They're here to protect our kingdom... besides, your entrance caused such a stir that others mistook you for invaders." Princess Shirahoshi looked at the sea frog with great sympathy. Through her innate Poseidon ability, she understood its cries he and the others had simply responded to her desperate summons. There was no malice. And yet, they'd been attacked. The frog conveyed its confusion why had the islanders hurt them when they only came to help?
"Shirahoshi!"
At that moment, King Neptune arrived, flanked by the Ryugu Palace guards in full force. He had been alerted to Shirahoshi's disappearance and rushed to recover his daughter only to be horrified by the sight of her surrounded by three massive Sea Kings.
"Surround these monsters now!" Neptune's voice thundered. In panic, he mistook the Sea Kings' presence as a threat, believing his daughter was being held hostage. The Dragon Palace guards, though trembling in fear, moved in and formed a perimeter around the Sea Kings, unsure of how to handle the situation.
"Father, no! It's not what you think they didn't harm me!" Shirahoshi immediately defended them, her voice pleading. If the Ryugu guards attacked, it could trigger chaos. The Sea Kings, despite their gentleness toward her, might interpret the action as hostility and even her commands might fail in the ensuing panic.
"Shirahoshi, don't worry your father's here now! I'll rescue you!" Neptune shouted back, deaf to her protests. He stepped forward, fully intending to retrieve his daughter by force. He couldn't risk losing her not after losing Otohime.
"King Neptune, you've misunderstood!" Rin stepped forward, placing himself between Neptune and the Sea Kings. "Princess Shirahoshi isn't being held hostage. She summoned them they're here because of her." Rin had seen enough to connect the dots: Shirahoshi, awakened as Poseidon, had subconsciously called to these Sea Kings through her emotions and voice.
"What?" Neptune blinked, trying to process the situation. "They're not holding her captive? Then why is she standing unharmed among them? Do they know her?"
"Tell your guards to stand down and observe a little longer," Rin advised calmly. He knew Shirahoshi's powers were delicate and emotional. Any interference might cause a backlash—and if she lost control, even Luffy couldn't stop what might follow. "Let Shirahoshi handle them. If you act rashly, it could backfire and put her in danger."
"Very well... Everyone, fall back!" Neptune hesitated, but Rin's calm confidence persuaded him. He ordered the guards to withdraw. He understood now these were not ordinary creatures. They responded to Shirahoshi's will, and if frightened, they might react uncontrollably.
"It's alright now. Thank you for coming please return safely."
With the danger averted, Shirahoshi turned to the three Sea Kings with a serene smile. Her voice, soft and melodic, resonated with a power that transcended language. The Sea Kings looked at her in awe. Her warmth and sincerity calmed them completely.
Her smile gentle, radiant, and pure was captivating, even to such titanic beings. After a few still moments, the three Sea Kings quietly departed, their immense bodies swimming away from Fish-Man Island, leaving only gentle ripples and the debris of their sudden arrival.
"Daughter!" Neptune rushed to Shirahoshi's side as the Sea Kings vanished from view. He knelt down, examining her in a panic. "Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine, Father. Let's go back." Shirahoshi's voice was steady, but the emotional weight of the day clung to her. From sneaking out of Ryugu Palace... to reliving the trauma of her mother's death... to summoning the Sea Kings and discovering her ancient power as Poseidon... to obtaining the antidote for Artoria from the venomous Sea King all of it was overwhelming for the young princess.
"Come out." Rin suddenly turned toward the shadows beside a crumbled pillar. A moment later, a shadow clone of Rin emerged from the rubble carrying an unconscious woman in his arms. That woman was none other than Queen Otohime.
"Queen Mother! She's alive! Father look!" Shirahoshi cried out with joy. Her large eyes filled with tears. For so long, she believed her mother had died in the explosion but now she stood before her again, unharmed.
"Otohime... she's alive!" King Neptune's voice broke as tears streamed down his face. He had believed for years that his beloved wife perished in the bombing. Now, seeing her safe in the arms of someone who looked just like Rin, he was overwhelmed with gratitude and disbelief.
"I used my ability to relocate her right before the explosion," Rin explained. "So she's fine just a little shaken." As he spoke, the shadow clone dissolved into wisps of black, retreating into Rin's form.
"Rin-sama, what kind of power was that? You created another 'you'...?" Neptune asked, astonished. The ability to clone oneself and act independently was unlike any Devil Fruit power he'd ever heard of.
"Oh, it's just part of my Devil Fruit's ability. Nothing too strange." Rin deflected the question with a casual lie. He couldn't explain that the technique was a shadow clone jutsu from another world entirely something unrelated to One Piece's Devil Fruits.
"Father, we must take Mother and Sister Artoria back to Ryugu Palace quickly," Shirahoshi urged. Both Otohime and Artoria were unconscious—Artoria, having just completed detoxification from the Sea King venom, and Otohime, stunned from her near-death experience. They needed medical care and rest.
"Yes, yes, you're right." Neptune wiped his eyes. "Guards, form a team to clean up this area. The rest of you escort us back to the palace!"
With that, the Ryugu guards gathered around the recovering royals, gently lifting Otohime and Artoria. They began the journey back to Ryugu Palace, as the tension on Fish-Man Island began to slowly fade away for now.
