Marceline, the Queen's most trusted Lady-in-Waiting, stood beside her with a peculiar look in her eyes.
"You said you had something interesting for me this morning, Marceline," the Queen said without looking up, swirling her wine lazily.
"Yes, Your Majesty," Marceline replied, her voice hushed. "It concerns His Majesty… and the woman he brought to the Palace."
That earned Nerezza's full attention. Her eyes slid to the side, sharp and green, then back to her wine as she took a slow sip. "Go on."
Marceline leaned in slightly, voice dropping. "It's said His Majesty returned last night with an unconscious woman in his arms. He brought her into the castle personally, I just found out that he took her to the King's tower, Your Majesty."
"Really?" Nerezza paused. Then leaned back, the stem of her glass cradled between her fingertips. "Interesting."
