The tablecloths were the color of moonlight—pure, silken white with threads of silver—while the private booth at the far end was wrapped in velvet drapes of midnight blue, offering a cocoon of elegance and seclusion. Around them, waiters moved with ghostlike grace, dressed in charcoal uniforms with white gloves, and couples murmured over candlelight, clinking crystal glasses, laughter rising and falling like waves.
