Chapter 19 - Treasured Boyfriend

Daniel was pushed down on the ground. He knelt, being held down by two men. Cold champagne was poured on his head, eliciting amusement from the rest in the room.

"Aren't you the treasured boyfriend of that bitch? I wonder what she is going to do, seeing you so humiliated. It must hurt her ego bad," commented Liam with a sadistic smirk in his eyes.

Daniel's eyes glared at him.

The door was then pushed open, and Emma entered.

When her eyes fell on Daniel, they sharpened before displeasure and anger crossed through them. She strode over, and he was instantly let go of.

Emma stared at him for a second before shaking her head.

"How pathetic. Now, who told you to go running around like that? You only got yourself in trouble," Emma groaned.

Daniel glanced at her before standing up.

She glanced at his messy state and ran her hand through her hair.

"This is embarrassing. Couldn't you resist or something? You know that you represent my face. Can't believe you let these losers get their hands on you." Emma sounded exasperated.

"What's the difference between them and you?" Daniel coldly asked.

"What?" Emma furrowed her brows in disbelief. "I am the same as them?"

"Using power to make me submit whenever you will." Daniel sneered. "Since I am already bowing my head down to you, lowering it a few more times is the same."

Daniel opened his eyes. His head felt heavy.

The dream flashed in front of his eyes for a moment. The emotions in the dream felt very real and vibrant to him, as if it was an event he lived through.

Confusion crossed his eyes.

However, that was not how everything played out yesterday.

"Daniel, are you sleeping in today? I already made breakfast," came the call of his younger sister, Melody. "I am heading off to school now."

The sound of her opening the door and leaving followed.

He silently laid on the bed for couple more seconds before collecting his thoughts. He removed the duvet off of him and got down from his bed. Next, he entered the washroom to freshen up.

Once he came out, he heard the sound of door bell ringing. Going over to the door, he opened it, revealing Emma.

Emma had her head lowered, staring down her at the blue butterflies in her shoes. She began to notice the patterns. When the door opened, she was filled with a dose of nervousness.

In her previous life, Daniel was pretty upset about the day.

And Emma knew her immaturity was to be blamed for it.

Her emotions were out of place.

Her thoughts too.

Her words as well.

Daniel was the actual victim, and in the end, she made it about herself.

"Are you going to keep staring down?" Daniel asked.

"Uh..." Emma enunciated before raising her head.

Her gaze instantly went towards his wrapped up hand, and guilt overcame her. Although she tried to be better in this life, somehow the consequences ended up being worse.

"Your hand," Emma brought up, "how is it?"

Daniel lifted his hand and moved it. "Required a few stitches, but it should heal in few weeks."

Emma bit down on her lower lip before releasing it.

"You shouldn't have blocked it. Are you foolish?" Emma stated. Her voice held a mix of grievances and anger.

As soon as those words left her mouth, she pressed on her tongue with her teeth.

She promised to be nicer to him with her words.

She couldn't lose her temper.

Deafening silence followed between them for a couple of seconds. Daniel's eyes were nonchalant as they observed her.

He sighed.

"Is that all?"

His indifference made her glare at him.

"If I had gotten hurt then, my dad would have ruined Liam's entire life. There was no need for you to be a hero. But look at it now. Did you even get a proper apology from anyone? No one cares. Even if you almost died, no actually died, they wouldn't come to your funeral. They will slap some compensation. That's how worthless your life is." Emma raised her voice.

Deep inside, Emma only felt frustrations building up inside her for acting in this manner with Daniel. Her emotions were a tangled, and she didn't know what she expected.

"And I don't care much about your life as well. Don't think I will be grateful. I will insult you and move on. That's why, stop being so foolish and self-righteous."

"I understand," Daniel voiced out. "Will you be leaving now?"

Emma shot one last look at him before turning her back on him.

Hearing the door close behind her, she squatted down and hugged her knees.

"What do you understand, you fool," Emma mumbled.

Her eyes then fell on the bags in her hand. She brought them for Daniel and forgot to hand it over to them.

She groaned, shaking her head. "Why did you have to go ahead and lose your temper? Emma, you truly don't deserve a good ending."

The plastic bags were placed on the door knob before she took out her phone.

Staring at her screen, Emma hesitated for a while, organizing her thoughts.

"There is a bag on the door knob. There are few fruits, supplements, and medicine there. Accept them as compensation from me."

"Also, for Liam and the rest, my words stand. Whatever you want to do to them, I agree."

After a couple more seconds of waiting, Emma's fingers trembled as she added the next text, "I am sorry. I lost control earlier. You didn't deserve to hear those words."

"And thank you. Even if my dad would have made Liam regret it, a wound like that would hurt bad. You saved me from the pain."

Emma let out a deep breath.

Her cowardly side then was released. Not having enough to energy to see the response from Daniel, she immediately powered off her phone and left from there.

Daniel was about to pick up the omlette with his chopstick when his phone rang from notication. Upon checking it, he saw the messages from Emma.

Her well-organized words were a contrast from the emotional outburst she had earlier.

He was confused about Emma.

About himself as well.

Why did he block it for her?

Was it something he would have done for anyone else?

The creases between his forehead revealed his inner turmoil.

But his fingers typed out a cold reply.

"Alright."
