Axel stood to my left, his arms folded, that leather duster of his swaying behind him like some post-apocalyptic warlord. Kyra chewed a toothpick to my right, eyes gleaming under the orange sky like a predator that hadn't eaten in days.
Ahead, down a crooked stone path and through a worn steel gate, was the compound. Laughing voices carried from beyond the wall, low and drunk. A reunion of old legends...retired elites who'd disappeared from the rankings, but not from the influence charts.
