Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 The Culprit

"Don't be so surprised."

Kana said as he began to recall his memories, remembering the plot he had once understood, recalling the past of this body.

He stood up and wiped the arm armor on the werewolf arm in his hand and explained, "Do you understand the history of this country you're in?

Do you understand the royal family you swore loyalty to?"

Alyris thought for a moment and realized she really didn't know much about the country she was in.

She had only known her village, and after the village was destroyed, she was taken to the city, adopted, and trained to become a knight.

After becoming a knight, she swore to become Kana's guardian knight.

"Let's go gather some supplies from the village; we can talk while we walk."

Saying that, Kana picked up the arm armor and headed towards the village, while Alyris drew her sword and hastily followed beside him.

Walking alongside them, Kana said, "We are just a small trading country, barely rich thanks to an open and free policy system, plus a few good ports.

But it also creates extremely favorable conditions for the germination of evil."

Safro, a free country established in the name of the royal family.

Compared to other countries, to be honest, this place is just a small country located at the northernmost part of the Southwest Continent.

Surrounded by sea on three sides, mountains on one.

Aside from entering the country by sea, the only other way is from both sides of the southern mountains.

Maritime trade, a relaxed system, a small country.

Combine these options, and you can imagine how outrageous the black industry in this country is.

"In fact, the royal family deliberately made it so, as they need favorable conditions for their research.

This country was founded just over a hundred years ago, and the ones who established it were merely a cult of evil mages.

And now, with so many monsters appearing in the country, it's actually all the royal family's doing."

Hearing this, Alyris stood there shocked and couldn't quite believe it.

That is if the person speaking wasn't Kana, a member of the royal family.

"Then, Your Highness, why do you..."

"You want to ask since it's our doing, why am I running away, right?" Kana turned his head and asked with a smile.

Alyris nodded.

"It's simple; I'm also one of the experiments, and I don't want to become one of those disgusting monsters."

Though that's a lie, the truth is Kana was too dumb to really know about these things.

Though there aren't many members of the royal family, there are not few either. Some lack qualifications and are unworthy of joining the core circle.

Unluckily, the former Kana was just such an existence.

Coincidentally, when the crisis broke out, Kana was out of the city on a spring outing, didn't understand the situation, and was escorted away by the soldiers at that time, as well as Alyris.

Moreover, those monsters kept chasing the scent of Kana, causing them to keep fleeing in a hurry, with no time to stop and think.

The outbreak was nationwide, erupting simultaneously in all major cities, making them feel like the country was done for.

In the original plot, both he and his knight Alyris would have been captured back in this village.

As a member of the royal family, there was nothing to hide after the plan started, so he was transformed back into the Blood Race.

Until the mid-late stage of version 1.0, when the Blood and Flesh Royal Court grew weary and was counterattacked by the coalition, he appeared for the first time.

In the late stage of the version, when the Blood and Flesh Royal Court was destroyed, and the blood disaster was restrained, the original Kana, who didn't appear on the front lines, was inexplicably spared by being converted into a pure-blood.

"And what about Princess, Your Highness? Was she a participant too?"

Alyris's voice was somewhat eager.

Kana turned to look at her: "Who knows, I can only say don't get your hopes up too high."

"No way, the Princess wouldn't do something like that; she must have been deceived."

Alyris deceived herself.

Deceived my ass, according to my memory and identity match, this body's mother was purely one of the core members.

The original owner of this body thought his mother died during the fall.

Moreover, this Princess was still among the researchers.

But if I just say it all at once, Alyris will definitely not accept it, leading to problems.

For now, leave it at that, and later influence her thoughts step by step gradually.

"Alright, enough idle chat, we don't have much time; pack up and see if there's anything useful, take it and go."

They ransacked the village under the cover of darkness.

...

The night had faded, and the morning sun shone upon the land.

[Painful Werewolf Armor]

[Category: Arm Armor—Wrist Armor—Relic]

[Attributes: Solid, Heavy]

[Special Effect: Sewing Pain]

[Sewing Pain: When the wearer feels pain—provides power boost (Power+)]

[Evaluation: Only rage and willpower can offset the pain of sewing!]

Kana looked at the attributes after spending 5 Magic Power to convert the loot taken from the sewn-up werewolf into equipment.

How to put it, at least it has a special effect.

It seems a bit underwhelming, but Kana, who has truly fought in the reality of this world, can clearly say.

This special effect is easy to trigger.

Though the body is datafied, pain can still be felt.

If worse comes to worst, you could stab yourself, and by adjusting the method, you can exchange a bit of blood for a power boost, which is worthwhile.

Thinking this, he put on the arm armor.

"Your Highness, should you rest for a bit? You've been walking all night." Knowing Kana's physical condition could not be compared to hers, Alyris asked from beside him.

After pillaging some supplies from the village last night, they've been carrying the simple supplies until now.

Never stopping along the way.

Alyris certainly had no problem, but she couldn't compare her physical condition with Kana's.

Hearing this, Kana came back to his senses.

Unconsciously, they had been on the road for a whole night. Counting carefully, they might have been carrying supplies nonstop for eight or nine hours.

Yet he didn't feel tired?

To be honest, with this body's physical condition, he should have felt tired long ago.

It seems the datafied body brought a significant increase in physical strength as well.

"Don't underestimate me, speed up!"

Saying that Kana even started to jog.

Alyris could only keep up, but she asked, "But, but where are we headed now?"

She felt confused, brought up from a young age to be trained as a royal guardian knight.

But now the entire country had fallen, with the royals as the main culprits, leaving her feeling lost.

"Don't be confused, come with me; we're going to find Count Vainsha."

"Count Vainsha?" Alyris had heard the name but wasn't very familiar with it.

This is an important character early on, even considered a version character in version 1.0.

Throughout version 1.0, it was he who guided the players, led the players, and brought out the main storyline.

In terms of blood relation, this count is even a relative of this body.

Also a member of the royal family, he seems to know some of the royal family's dealings and refuses to join them, always staying on the fringe.

After the blood disaster broke out, he left the country with some of his territory's troops and some people who were fleeing.

The players' new starting village was a small territory granted to him by a neighboring country, where it was built.

Kana participated in the beta test, during which the disaster had just erupted, and the count was escorting refugees after a failed defense.
