As Indo-Pak war came to an end, the emergency was lifted.
During the emergency period, Junagadh and Hyderabad were annexed, and Indian government has taken over their assets and money in the country since they refused to surrender.
Amidst the war, Pakistan had kept Gandhi ji's corpse, and blackmailed India that it will only return him after ceasefire.
Of course, that move had backfired. Not only Indians were pissed, but many in the Pakistani military who didn't necessarily hate India and many who had goodwill towards Gandhi probably surrendered more easily.
It didn't help that majority of East Bengal leadership fled to London, and even from West Pakistan due to Karachi being invaded.
Since the war emergency was lifted, the Constituent Assembly assembled today.
But, all members of Muslim League that had stayed behind in India were arrested and were not allowed to be a part of the interim government's parliament.
"First of all, I would like to thank you all for your patience and cooperation during the war.
We have brought back East Bengal, southern parts of Sindh, including Karachi, parts of West Punjab, including Lahore, Kartarpur, Harappa, and we are currently controlling Pashtun regions.
We have annihilated majority of Pakistani military. Around 70% of their army troops have surrendered, and their navy and airforce no longer exists.
For the soldiers who have surrendered, they will be retired from services and receive pension. They will be treated with respect as any Indian soldier is as long as they never take up weapons in their hands again.
Negotiations will start tomorrow. And there are some things needed to be known.
1) Under no circumstances will we give any amount of land that we captured back will be given to Pakistan.
2) It is a ceasefire because India is allowing Pakistan to exist. But Pakistan must follow conditions for this peace.
A) There will be no military and intelligence agency in Pakistan. Only basic police force. Pakistan won't be allowed to buy any weapons from now on from anywhere. As long as Pakistan doesn't attack us again, it will exist.
B) Pakistan will not be allowed to sell or lease any assets to foreign countries.
C) Brainwashing and training people into becoming extremists will be an act of war. The some of the muslims of India that have formed Pakistan are, in the end, Indians. We won't let any Indian suffer.
3) A population exchange will happen. All non-muslims from Pakistan will come to India, and the 15-20% of the muslims who voted for Pakistan will go to Pakistan. 80-85% muslims didn't vote for Pakistan, so they don't need to be scared. You can remain in India, all living under equal laws, with the same rights and responsibilities.
4) Gandhi ji's body must be returned to India.
These are the basic conditions Pakistan must accept, or the ceasefire will be lifted.
If anyone has any suggestions or objections, let's discuss it in the Constituent Assembly."
So, the discussion began in the first main session of Constituent Assembly post-independence.
Dr BR Ambedkar stood up.
"I believe just those who voted for Muslim League aren't the only ones who should be sent to Pakistan. Majority of the people who started genocides demanding Pakistan were non-voters."
That is a valid point.
But sending just the voters to Pakistan will be difficult. How would we even determine who participated in genocides for Pakistan?
Nehru raised the same question, "First of all, I disagree with the proposal to send anyone to Pakistan in the first place. Be it those who voted for it. And, how would we even know who voted for Pakistan? And even if we knew, it will be a logistical nightmare and more people will die just like during the partition."
"We will hold a vote during the general elections.
We will first send the 1946 election Pakistani voters, region by region, and then when we will conduct the general elections with Universal Adult Sufferage, people will be able to choose if they want to go to Pakistan. While the common votes will remain anonymous, those who want to go to Pakistan can just say it so.
Or if doing it during elections will be difficult, we can do it during census itself before the election. Region by Region."
That's fair. It's a democracy, so people should be able to choose to leave the country.
But will what remains of Pakistan even be able to handle so many people?
Wait a minute...
UK has been accepting Indian migrants for its rebuilding, right?
I guess we can not only lessen the problem of Pakistan getting too overpopulated and leading to refugee crisis and extremism, but also leas UK down the path of destruction.
"How about this? UK is accepting migrants from India for its reconstruction and giving them citizenship. We will give priority to those who don't want to be Indian.
But I oppose sending the non-voters from 1946 elections to Pakistan. It will be a logistics nightmare and cause more violence like the partition.
I firmly believe in the power of education. If British education can degrade our society so much, an Indian education should be able to uplift the society and its thinking."
Afterall, Jinnah will die in some time. The people next to him will be weak, and it will be the best time to take back the lands occupied by Pakistan.
My goal is only to remove the elites from having any sort of power and privilege. As soon as their source of power is gotten rid of, the power of Pakistan as an ideology will slowly die down.
If they want Pakistan, they can make it in UK.
In the end, we voted. And it was decided to send the voters of 1946 provincial elections who wanted Pakistan to be sent there.
The terms of negotiations were majorly supported by the parliament.
Next, it was time for kicking out Mountbatten since most of the work is done.
Sikkim is remaining as a protectorate, and Balochistan is currently a protectorate of Pakistan.
Just need the gold back from UK.
