Chapter 4 - Against the Universe

Time accelerated quickly in the blink of an eye, two balls of golden light rotating on their axis as they moved with Time.

Rowan had used a portion of his Soul to create a lesser being of himself and gave it a simple command.

The being had done its work just as Rowan wanted, and they were currently seeing the results…

Or maybe not. After all, both Souls were unconscious at the moment.

The Souls—still revolving on an axis—looked peaceful as they moved. Everything seemed to be going well… until it wasn't anymore.

The attempts of the Universe to destroy and eradicate them was almost futile. The Gods had reached the peak of existence. They were so powerful that erasing them was like tearing out a huge chunk of a person's heart.

The odds of the person surviving was close to nil, and that person in this case was the Universe, and it didn't seem to care. Instead, it only tried harder, dealing itself lots of damage at the same time.

The two Souls, protected by a barrier of golden light, were oblivious to what was happening around, but as soon as snippets of the Universe's power of destruction hit the barrier, cracking and touching the two Souls, their survival instincts kicked in.

Locked in a forced hibernation, Rowan and Ryker were unable to control what was happening, but that didn't mean that they were defenseless.

Though the Universe might be trying to screw them over by extinguishing their Souls, they still had powers of their own.

And so their Souls moved, searching for their best options.

They found it in the next instant, and they executed in a seamless fashion.

The protective barrier was being bombarded from outside, and they were being affected by it. The two Souls suddenly shot towards one another, their energies fusing and becoming one.

If they couldn't survive individually, then they had to survive together.

With this intent driving the Souls, their connection deepened, becoming stronger by the fraction of a nano second, and forming into a strong bond.

It didn't end there though, both Souls thought it mediocre and cowardly to go out silently, so they began channeling their raw energy into one powerful attack.

The Universe wanted to fuck with them? Well… it had better be ready for retaliation, because they weren't one to stay idle when being provoked.

The energies of their lifetime, both as mortals and as gods, converged into a single point in reality.

Everything around was collapsing, even as time was being accelerated. The Universe was beyond livid at this point.

Why wouldn't they just die? Hadn't they caused enough problems for it already?

To answer that, the Souls merged into one, becoming an entirely new being.

The lights of the new Soul dimmed as more energy was poured into the bomb, becoming flickering wisps of flames.

It fluctuated wildly, almost as if it would vanish soon. However, it didn't.

Though they might have lost their powers creating the bomb, they still had remnants of their potential and latent talents from their lives.

If the new Soul was to vanish now, then what was the point of doing what they did in the first place?

Roars of anger and humiliation echoed, announcing the Universe's wrath.

How dare they?!!

Runes of Destruction formed in quick succession, slamming against the barrier heavily and trying to disintegrate it, returning it to its origins.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The Runes sent jagged fractures racing across it. Time seemed to slow for a moment as the Destruction Runes destroyed its very concept.

The Soul trembled upon sensing what was happening. The lingering Will of the Gods acted immediately, and their plan was cancelled.

They had underestimated the wrath of the Universe.

SHATTER!!

The barrier gave way under the relentless assault, and one Destruction Rune after another shot forward in an attempt to finally end the charade.

However!

The accumulated energy of the God of Infinity and Time, and the God of Death and Finality, appeared before the converging Destruction Runes, prepared to explode in all its infinite and undying glory.

But!

Before that—also—could even happen. The lingering Wills took precedence of the new Souls safety over revenge against the Universe.

Perhaps the Universe had won this clash and had ridiculed them, they would surely come back for revenge, one way or another. But first…

The shattering barrier gleamed brightly one last time, taking the energy gathered for a bomb and pouring it into the Laws of Corruption.

One Rune after another formed swiftly, taking into shape around the Soul and shielding it.

The Law of Corruption corrupted the Universe around it, creating a sturdy defence that began to corrupt the Destruction Runes, shocking those who bore witness.

Before anyone could react, the Dimensional Laws were corrupted and taken control of. In the same instant, all the accumulated energy was siphoned from the bomb, and pumped into a Space Rune.

The Rune shimmered with destructiveness, but that wasn't the intent for the situation.

The Rune slammed into the Soul and surrounded it completely. Then, in a flash of glorious light…

It vanished, together with the Soul.

Silence descended like a phantom, everything coming to a stop as if to properly understand what had just happened.

Right after that, the whole world seemed to come to an end, as the Universe unleashed its fury.

***

Being hurled through space wasn't a nice feeling at all—especially not for a Soul that appeared to be on the verge of falling apart.

There was no protection around it, only a fraction of a fraction of a weakened Space Rune surrounding it, barely holding itself together.

The lingering Wills of the Gods weren't as powerful as the real Gods' minds, but it did a great work nonetheless.

It didn't really think of the aftermath of its actions, but seemingly believed since there was a sliver of chance of survival, then why not take that route?

And with that thought process, it hurled the Soul out of the Universe, using up every bit of energy it had to protect the Soul.

In return, the two Wills faded out, finally dying after a long life of battles.

If they were ever reawakened, then maybe they could strive to reach the top again. For now, though, their child, a product of the fusion of two Gods, would have to enjoy the thrill of battle in their stead.

Though Rowan might call this gay, as they had… birthed a child, it was still better than dying without leaving something behind.

The drifting Soul flickered wildly as its protection finally shattered, causing it to fall into another Universe, which—for some reason—let it in.

It was directed by the said Universe, placed on the single planet in that Universe, and forced into the body of a new born.

That day, a child was born, and his name…
