LANA'S POV
PRESENT
"I believe I can help with proving his innocence" A voice spoke up from behind us
I turned around to meet the gaze of someone I don't think I've seen before. She walked with so much poise and grace, one would think that she was a celebrity or even a model
"And who are you?" Mr Anderson broke eye contact, casting his gaze onto the unknown individual in the office
"My name is Elizabeth Linc. I've been working as Mr. Kings secretary for the past year now" She said calmly
"His secretary?" Mr Anderson wondered switching his focus between her and I "As far as I'm aware he only has a Personal Assistant which is Mr Lionel Cross"
"Mr Cross handles all in house office affairs, I do everything else which includes his foreign affairs" She said, a faint smile on her face
"I… see" Mr Anderson said slowly returning back to his seat "So tell me, what brings you here?"
"I can prove that Mr King was nowhere near Mrs Summers at the time of her death and he did not write that confession letter. He's being framed for a murder he didn't commit" Elizabeth said, her rage slowly building
Framed?
"Go on" Mr Anderson said
"Can I ask that she leaves the room?"Elizabeth said pointing at me
Wait what?
"Why should I leave?" I argued looking between the both of them "I equally want Xavier out of prison so if you have any information to share then I'd very much like to be aware of it"
"As much as your intentions might be… pure, I still can't share sensitive company information with just anyone. I apologize" She said earnestly
"Could you please wait outside?" Mr Anderson said turning to face me
"I'm not going anywhere" I protested
"Either you wait outside quietly or you get dragged out of the building by police officers or would you rather be charged with obstruction of justice?" Mr Anderson said "Pick one"
Defeated
I rose to my feet taking the walk of shame out of his office only closing the door behind me after taking one final look at the both of them. That was so embarrassing
I paced about the reception area waiting for both parties to come out from the office but it seemed time moved slower inside this station. They spent an extra twenty minutes before I caught the glimpse of Mr Anderson followed by Elizabeth and then–Xavier
I can't explain it but a part of me felt happy to see him. I caught myself smiling briefly at the sight of him. I immediately wiped the smile from my face.
"You look well for someone who slept in a jail cell" I said as soon as they were close enough to hear my voice
"And you look like you haven't been sleeping at all" Xavier shot back hinting at the dark circles around my eyes "Thank you for looking out for me Mr Anderson" Xavier days turning to face him
"I promised your father I wasn't going to let anything happen to you" He says with a snug smile on his face
"So is he free to go?" I asked
"For now, he's just not allowed to leave the state or country" Mr Anderson responded
"You paid his bail?" I turned to face Elizabeth who was busy scrolling through her phone
"A rather hefty sum" She said looking briefly at me before returning her focus to her device
"We're going to go through everything again and make sure we catch whoever is responsible, and if it's you Xavier" That serious look was back in his face "I won't let it go just because"
"I know you won't" Xavier responded with an equally Stern look on his face
"Let's go" Elizabeth said, ushering us out of the police station and into the car she had arrived in. Both Xavier and Elizabeth sat in the back seat while I stayed in front with the driver
"Falana" Xavier instructed and the vehicle moved soon after.
As we made the journey back to Xavier's hideout I continued to wonder what that reaction of mine back at the station was.
Why did I smile?
Why was I happy that he was out?
It was just me being happy that he wasn't going to rot away in jail and I would be able to exact my revenge. That had to be the only reason. Nothing more
We arrived at the hideout about thirty minutes later or there about. I lost track of time because I was in my head the entire journey. Elizabeth returned with the vehicle saying she had a few paperwork to sort and handle back at the office, leaving just Xavier and I back at the apartment, Alone.
Why does that thought bother me? Made me wonder if there was any truth to what Mr Anderson said about Stockholm syndrome. I don't think that's the case but underneath it all I wondered "Was it possible?"
I pondered on the possibility for a while before Xavier's voice pulled me out from my thought
"I didn't think you'd be at the station" Xavier said, breaking the silence that was brewing between us
I stayed silent for a while, trying to find my voice
"Well I couldn't let you rot away in a prison cell" I said, trying to sound sincere
"Does that mean you really forgive me?" He asked
"It's a slow process but I'm learning to" I lied
"Thank you" A yawn broke through his lips
"Looks like you haven't been sleeping so good" I teased, trying to lighten the mood
"I could say the same about you" He shot back "But nothing beats the comfort of your own bed"
"I can totally understand that" I chuckled lightly
"If you'll excuse me" He said before exiting the room to the bedroom area.
My smile faded as soon as the door closed behind him. My nails dug into my flesh as I tried to contain the rage within me.
Get some rest Xavier.
Pretty soon you'll be sleeping forever but before you do I'll be sure to remind you why you deserved to die.
Welcome to your final moments in life
