Vex stepped inside her room, holding Asperia in his arms. The door clicked shut behind him as he used his foot to push it closed.
Morning sunlight came in through the windows, falling across the floor and the side of the bed. The air was still, quiet—only their breathing filled it.
She didn't say anything at first. Her body was warm against his chest, but trembling a little.
"Put me down," she whispered.
He looked into her eyes. They were a bit glassy, but sharp. Focused on him. He slowly bent down, letting her feet touch the floor. Her hand slid off his chest.
"Please… sit on the bed," she said, her voice low.
Vex hesitated. Something in her tone felt serious, broken. Like she had snapped somewhere deep. After a second, he nodded and sat on the edge of the bed. The fur sheets dipped under his weight.
She stood in front of him.
She didn't wait.
