There's something about returning to your own space after everything, the truth revealed, the past confronted, the weight of secrets unraveled, that makes your surroundings feel unfamiliar and yet finally yours.
The city skyline looked like it always did, sleek, metallic, powerful, but I wasn't the same woman who used to stare out these windows trying to piece herself together.
I was whole now. Or at least, healing with confidence.
The soft hum of my phone pulled me from the reflection. I picked it up from the marble kitchen island and saw Melanie's name flashing across the screen.
My dependable, over-organized assistant was probably already halfway through her to-do list for the day.
"Good morning, Melanie," I answered, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear as I walked to the living room.
