Chapter 62 - The Twins

Ethan flung the door open.

The soft beeping of the heart monitor was the first sound to greet him. Then he saw her—Lena, pale and fragile, lying still beneath crisp hospital sheets.

His heart sank.

But she was breathing. She was alive. That was all that mattered right now.

"Hey, you," he whispered, stepping toward her bedside. He reached for her hand gently, as though afraid she might disappear. He pressed a kiss to her knuckles.

"Hi," Lena whispered, offering a weak but warm smile.

"How are you feeling?" Ethan asked, lowering himself into the chair beside her.

"I'm okay… I guess," she said softly.

He nodded, squeezing her hand. "Yes, you are. You're here. That's everything."

They sat in silence for a moment, his thumb stroking over her palm as if it grounded him.

"I love you so much," Ethan finally breathed.

"I love you too," Lena whispered, voice thick with emotion.

After a pause, Ethan asked, "Did they said anything to you?, the doctor, the nurse? Anything that caused what happened?

Lena took a slow breath. "No… not really. I just told them I was pregnant and listed my drug allergies. That's all."

Ethan's jaw clenched. "Okay. The nurse said the doctor will be here soon to speak with us. But right now, I need to know you're safe."

Lena's eyes searched his. "Have you checked on my brother? Audrey?"

Ethan blinked, surprised by the question.

"If they realize I was missing," Lena said, her voice tightening, "they might have gone after him too."

Ethan reached for her other hand. "Don't worry. He's safe. I had him moved from the hospital to the estate. Guards are everywhere, and the location's completely firewalled. No one's getting near him."

Lena slowly exhaled in relief. Then she looked at him seriously.

"There's something you need to know."

Ethan stiffened. "What do you mean?"

"Before the kidnapping… I spoke with Vivian."

Ethan's expression darkened instantly. "Vivian?" His tone was low and sharp. "Hasn't she done enough?"

"I know how it sounds," Lena said quickly. "But this time it felt… different. She wasn't lying. She looked scared. Really scared."

Ethan didn't respond. His eyes narrowed slightly, waiting.

"She said it wasn't just her," Lena continued. "She and George had collaborated, yes—but it was George who somehow got a hold of your mother's death report, the one with the drug test results."

Ethan leaned back slowly, his expression unreadable. "I thought that file was completely sealed."

"It was," Lena said. "Or at least it should've been. Vivian thinks someone else gave George that report. Someone who manipulated him—fed him enough truth to make him believe whatever they wanted."

A long silence passed between them.

Ethan stared at the wall, the weight of the possibility crashing over him.

"It wasn't just revenge," Lena added. "It was orchestrated. Someone's pulling strings. Someone who knows everything—your mom's death, your medical files, even the public leak."

Ethan's voice was tight when he spoke again. "But the drug test wasn't in the media. My dad made sure of that."

"Exactly," Lena said. "Which means it wasn't leaked. It was handed over. By someone close."

"Someone in the inner circle…" Ethan murmured. "Or worse—the one who actually caused her death."

Their eyes met, and in the space between them grew a silence not of peace—but of realization.

There was more to this than betrayal.

This wasn't just about power or money.

It was personal.

And the real enemy hadn't shown their face yet.

Here's a refined and emotionally heightened version of this scene. It keeps the original structure but improves the grammar, flow, and emotional pacing while keeping the surprise of the twins reveal impactful.

Chapter 63 – Unexpected News

"The O'Martins?" the doctor called gently as he stepped into the room.

Ethan and Lena turned their attention to him immediately.

"We've reviewed your tests and wanted to walk you through a few things," he began, flipping through the tablet in his hands. "How are you feeling now, Lena?"

"I'm okay," she replied, her voice a little hoarse but steady.

The doctor nodded. "Good. So, as you mentioned earlier, you believe you were drugged before arriving at the hospital?"

"Yes," she said.

"Well, we confirmed the presence of a sedative in your system. Your body had an intense reaction, likely worsened by your current condition."

Lena blinked. "My pregnancy?"

"Exactly. The combination triggered your episode earlier—dizziness, the cramping, the pain." He glanced up. "But that's not all. As standard procedure, especially when a pregnant woman is admitted under suspicious circumstances, we ran additional tests."

Ethan's brows drew together. "Tests for what?"

The doctor hesitated, then said carefully, "We have to rule out drug abuse or anything that could be considered child endangerment. It's just protocol, nothing personal."

Lena's eyes widened. "You… what? You thought I was on drugs?"

The doctor lifted a calming hand. "Please understand, we didn't assume anything. It's our job to make sure both mother and child are safe. The good news is—everything looks clean. You're in the clear."

Lena exhaled sharply, tension slowly bleeding from her shoulders.

"But more importantly," the doctor continued with a small smile, "you and the babies are perfectly healthy."

Lena's eyes darted up. "Babies?"

Ethan froze. "Excuse me—did you just say babies? As in… more than one?"

The doctor chuckled. "Yes, Mr. O'Martin. Congratulations. You're expecting twins."

Ethan looked stunned. "Twins?!"

Lena sat up slightly. "Wait, what?"

Judging from their expressions, the doctor realized this wasn't just a shock—it was news.

"I take it this is your first time hearing that," he said with a smirk. "Would you like to see for yourselves? We can schedule an ultrasound now."

Lena blinked, her eyes growing misty. "Twins…"

Ethan's hand found hers and squeezed tightly.

The doctor stood. "I'll have the nurse prep the room. Congratulations, future twin parents."

As he stepped out, Lena and Ethan sat in stunned silence, staring at one another.

Everything had just gotten a whole lot more real.
