"Mmm...hmm," Genevieve hummed faintly, still trembling.
His patience wearing thin, Adrian snapped, "I said that so you'd stop being scared and quit trembling!"
Genevieve flinched at the annoyance in his voice, instinctively taking a few steps back out of fear before she could stop herself. Her sudden movement and appearance out in the open and away from the cover Adrian's back provided, caught the attention of the intruders, their eyes lighting up with interest as they took her in.
"I… I…" she stammered, trying to apologize, but only a series of whimpers escaped her lips instead. This was bad, terrible even, but there was no way she could control it. Her body was acting on its own, betraying her fear even though her mind screamed at her to stay calm.
Not that she was any less terrified inside, but if she could just control her reactions, she wouldn't be trembling like this.
