When my parents had made this plan, I thought he would be hot, handsome… and hot. But what I saw at that moment was far from what I expected.
Across from me was my supposed date. He wore a black suit like it was his first interview. His golden brown hair was sleeked back, without a single hair falling out of place.
After my observation, I shook my head. He was not my type. Then, I took another sip of my wine.
"Like I was saying, you are totally my type. I mean, you are classic and know etiquette," his eyes gleamed like that of a child with a jar of candy.
"You meant to say, because I'm rich?" I asked.
He chuckled. "I'm rich too," he intentionally waved his Rolex at me.
I chuckled at his gesture. What a brat.
The music filled the air, lightening the mood. The fancy lights and the classic decoration of the restaurant screamed luxury.
"If you date me, I'll make sure you get everything you want. All you have to do is stay at home and cater to my needs and our children's," he added with a smile.
I chuckled again before pursing my lips. "So you want me to be your housewife?" I asked, pointing at myself.
The idiot nodded like a clueless fool.
"Roy Carter, I don't think this is going to work. Why not call it off?" I tried to sound as polite as much as I could.
He looked completely taken aback by what I said. "Why? We are getting along, I like you," he blurted out.
"I like your honesty. So I will be honest about myself too," I suggested with a sweet smile. I took a deep sigh, before I put on a sad expression.
"I know you want me because you have heard of my flawless reputation." I paused, letting the tension heighten before I continued. "But I am far from that."
I pinched the edge of my nose. I hate trying to explain myself. I opened my bag, and I tossed a couple of pictures towards him.
He looked down at the pictures, gradually, his smile disappeared as if he had seen a ghost. His hands trembled, his eyes burned with anger.
"Jasmine!" he yelled, slamming his hand on the table. The contents on it trembled from the impact. The other guests glanced our way with irritated looks.
"What? That's rude, calling me by my first name," I said, blinking innocently at him.
He loosened his tie as if he was getting suffocated by it. If he had agreed to my request earlier, I might not have done this.
"If you don't call this off, I will send a copy of those pictures of you and your company doing illegal transactions, human trafficking, drugs, and many others," I said nonchalantly, before I took another sip from my drink.
Roy gritted his teeth, his knuckles whitened. His eyes threw daggers at me before he took his phone, as he made a phone call. "Father, call off every engagement plan. She isn't the right choice for us… I'll tell you the details when I get home." He hung up.
A smile curved on my lips. His gaze returned to me; the hatred in his eyes made me smile more. "I know you wish to gut me right now, but that's only a wish."
"Jasmine! Don't bite more than you can chew," his voice grew low and terrifying.
If it was other people, I bet they would be shivering by now, but that won't work on me. "Get rid of that evidence!" he barked at my face before he stormed out of the restaurant.
I pursed my lips. "This steak is delicious." I returned to my dish. I hummed in satisfaction as I chewed on it, the flavour burst in my mouth, sending me to the nine heavens.
After I finished my meal, I dabbed my lips with the napkins. I walked out with a victorious smirk. Soon, a black BMW pulled up in front of me. A man in his late forties ran out and opened the door for me.
I gave him a nod of acknowledgment before entering the back seat of the car.
"Where are we going, young madam?" he asked, as he drove out towards the highway.
"The family estate."
I stared at the evidence I had gathered about Carter's illegal activities. I contemplated if I should send it to the police. My finger hovered above the send button. I sighed. If I make a deal, I should keep my end of the bargain, right?
I looked out of the window, as we were at a crossroad, stopped by the traffic light. My breath hitched as a truck drove towards us with great speed. I relaxed a bit when I realized that it was a bit far from us.
Before I could blink, a car ran into us from the other side. The tires screeched filled the air before it came to an abrupt stop. My vision blurred, as blood seeped down my face.
Our car had turned upside down, which caused more accidents as the other incoming cars tried to avoid slamming into us. I coughed from the smoke oozing out from our car. When I thought everything was over, the truck from earlier sped towards us.
I stared mindlessly at the incoming death. I never thought I would die this way. There were still a lot of things I had to do. What will my parents do if they find out their only child was dead? A tear rolled down my cheeks. 'was this punishment for everything I've done?
The pain of watching my life slip away through my fingers like sand, made bile rise in my throat.
Everything became slow, as if the universe was trying to mock me. My heart pounded loudly against my chest, fear curled it way up through my veins.
'So this was how I was going to die?' Then…
Bang.
The impact sent shudders through my body. A loud pitch tore through my head, and then everywhere went silent.
...…
My eyes opened to a dark, stinking room. The stench almost made me throw up. I blinked my eyes to adjust to the darkness. My body ached as if I was run over by a truck… well, I was. The cold from the floor seeped into my skin, sending shivers through my arching body.
'But shouldn't I be at the hospital? Or could it be that I was abducted?' The thoughts swirled in my head.
'But why is it so dark?' A groan escaped my lips as I curled myself to the wall, my eyes flickered closed. Who knows how much time had passed since the accident.
My eyes shot open to the rattling sound of the metal gate. The door burst open, a yellow dim light from the outside illuminated the room. Two huge men stood at the door.
"Come out, you little cunt," the words made the hair on my body to stand at their ends.
