So these were going to search about that topic.
So her time here wouldn't end up going to the waste.
What Crescent thought was so different from what she let appear on her face. She could not let them get even a slightest of the hint that she was here with some other purpose.
"So what do I start with?"
"Grest question." Samuel stood up. "You see we got so many books here and it is quite hard for just the two people to find the record from that time."
He walked to the racks and brought out a few books. "These all are related to the Sylvaran but there is only one or two paragraphs which are of use to us."
Crescent took the books from his extended hand. She turned over the few pages. "What kind of paragraph is of use to you?"
"Something that highlights the reason behind the shift. Almost all these books highlights the living conditions before and after the period of distress, nothing in between. And we need the exact record of that-"
"Gap." Crescent completed.
"There you go." Samuel clasped his hands and flickered his eyes at his boss. A silent conversation went between the eyes and Samuel stood up. "This is it from my side. I will be regular from today but for now I need to go due to some other work."
Crescent looked up at him and nodded. "I will start from today then."
"Sure."
As Samuel reached the stairs, he heard something that almost caused him to stumble down.
"Since you are a peon, why don't you go and bring me a cup of tea?" And it was directed at someone who was too majestic to do this work.
Samuel turned around and cleared his throat. He thought of saying something but his boss had already beat him to it.
"Why not, your majesty?" He raised his eyebrow and got up. Within moments, Samuel was out walking in the corridor with his boss.
"Did you know beforehand that she would be the choosen assistant?"
The man walking beside him let the amusement fade. His eyes deepened to a degree that matched the depth of the ocean. A storm went there but hidden from all. "No."
"Isn't it too much of a coincidence? She came under the car that night, after that in the library and now even here." Samuel was startled when he saw her earlier. "You should be careful."
"Remember what I said last time?"
Samuel came to the stop beside another door, waiting for him to answer.
That man turned to look towards the hills. His eyes zooming nothing at particular. "If I met her again, I won't let her go easily." The smirk was back but a shiver ran down Samuel's spine.
He knew what was meant by that smirk. It won't be good... at least for that lady. Not when they were still to discover her exact intentions.
-
In true intentions, Crescent did not want the tea. All she wanted was some time alone here so she could inspect around.
And she knew that it wasn't going to be possible at least under his eyes. She did not know how much of a important person was he, but she knew for sure that he was not going to be of a help to her.
Three times...that's the number of times they have met till now and not even a single meeting let her go and achieve what she wanted.
Crescent quickly got up from her seat and walked to the wall. She looked at the map of not just the urban part but also of Sylvaran.
It was of a few centuries back, of the time when there was a unity like no other.
Her steps wandered to the book racks, she knew she was here for a long time but she did not believe that she would be able to move around freely under the inspecting gaze of a certain someone.
Honestly, what she was trying to find was any hint of Icarus. A belonging, a photo, handwriting, a diary...any thing.
From what she heard, Icarus had to urgently go out last night, to the point that he did not even return here to gather his belongings.
If that was the case, could he have left something to learn more about him?
But there was nothing.
She looked around and around only to come back and sit on the couch after a while. There was not anything. The desk did have the papers scattered all around, rough scribbling of the data on the pages, however nothing majorly important.
She threw her head back. Perhaps she was being too much suspicious about everything.
However, Crescent couldn't help but think it over. Others did not know the history about this place, she knew. Others were not aware of the details but she was.
Crescent could roughly make out what exactly happened during that distress period and the reason behind it.
That's why she needed to be a few steps ahead of them. Crescent had a way up her sleeves to get that card for the secret library. All she needed to do was to wait for Icarus to be back.
Just at the same time, her phone rang. It was Mrs Walter.
She picked it up and put the phone by her ear. "Cristie?"
That was the nickname Mrs Walter used to call her. Crescent kind of liked it as well.
"How are you, darling?"
"Good. How are you? How is your health?" Mrs Walter had gotten sick at the start of this month. A seasonal flu, she had told.
"Much better." Her voice did sound fresh.
Crescent got up and moved by the window. The gentle breeze blew in, caressing her hair and pushing them along with in the direction of wind.
Mrs Walter continued, "Crescent, I wanted to talk about something." She sounded almost nervous. "Rather ask."
"Please do." This was probably the first time Mrs Walter sounded this much uncertain.
"Ashton would be celebrating his fiftieth birthday in a week. I was deciding to throw a party. I would really like if you could also attend."
