The hills of Copaeyris came into view, sharp cliffs overlooking a crescent-shaped arena carved into the stone. Colorful banners danced in the wind.
A tournament.
"Finally," Sayos grinned. "I need a proper fight."
"And I need a nap," Rika muttered.
Still, Mizu stepped forward and signed up. So did Sayos.
The stone tablet at the entrance shimmered with magic, their names etched in glowing runes.
Mizu
Sayos
Libo
Kenzo
…And dozens more.
But Sayos's gaze stopped on one name. A tall man leaned silently against the wall—hooded, his eyes glowing green beneath the shadow.
"Mizu," Sayos whispered. "You feel that?"
Mizu nodded.
"He's not here for the prize."
