Blazar blinked, her fingers gripping the edge of the cafeteria table. "I am not going to the ball."
Feya's face fell, her bright smile fading like a wilted flower. She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Is it because you're thoroughly gay? You can't go with me?"
Blazar's head snapped up, her eyes wide with shock. She shook her head so hard her dark hair whipped across her face. "No! I am not gay!"
Several heads turned in their direction, curious eyes boring into them. Feya's cheeks flushed pink as she glanced around nervously.
"Maybe I'll come with you when you're doing your stuff today," Feya said quickly, trying to recover. She reached across the table, her fingers almost brushing Blazar's. "The whole school will be going. You're like maybe the only one from Prestigia who won't be there?"
Blazar pulled her hand away, her jaw tightening. "No, you can't come with me. I like privacy."
