Chapter 21 - Chapter 019

"Who are you looking for?"

The middle-aged woman looked at Lin Mo at the door with confusion in her eyes.

Lin Mo had seen photos of Chu Yu's parents at the police station and knew that the woman in front of him was Chu Yu's mother.

Although she had good features, it was evident that she had aged considerably over the past year, looking much older than her actual age.

This was understandable.

How could a mother possibly cope with the tragic death of her beloved daughter?

She must have spent the entire year in anguish.

"Hello, Auntie. I'm a friend of Chu Yu's."

Lin Mo lied without batting an eye. He had prepared this story on the way here. To gain her trust, he needed to be direct and straightforward.

In a strict sense, Lin Mo and the spirit of Chu Yu could be considered friends.

After all, Lin Mo and her were 'inseparable' in the nightmare world, with him carrying her close.

"Little Yu's friend?" The woman's face darkened.

"May I come in?" Lin Mo asked proactively, seeing that she wasn't inviting him in.

The woman was startled, then quickly nodded, "I'm sorry, I was just thinking about Little Yu. Please come in, please come in."

Entering the villa.

Though spacious, it wasn't overly luxurious. As soon as he entered, Lin Mo saw a photo of a girl on the table by the door.

It was Chu Yu.

Lin Mo had seen her photo in the files provided by the police station.

The girl in the photo was sunny and beautiful. Who could have imagined that after being betrayed by her friends and dying tragically, she would become a malevolent and terrifying evil spirit?

"Have some hot water." Chu Yu's mother brought a cup of hot water and handed it to Lin Mo.

"Thank you, Auntie."

Lin Mo accepted it with both hands, then glanced around the house.

"When did you and Little Yu meet?" Chu Yu's mother asked at this moment.

"Before, at school. We weren't in the same class, but she often went to the library, and that's how we got to know each other," Lin Mo replied confidently.

Because he never got nervous, he had an exceptional talent for lying and deceiving.

Moreover, Lin Mo had learned from her diary that Chu Yu liked going to the library, so this wasn't false.

"I happened to be passing by today and thought of her, so I couldn't help but want to come and see. I hope I haven't disturbed you, Auntie," Lin Mo said with a sincere expression.

"It's no trouble, no trouble at all." Perhaps infected by Lin Mo's sincere look, Chu Yu's mother suppressed the slight doubt in her heart.

They began to chat.

"May I see Chu Yu's room?" Lin Mo asked when he heard that Chu Yu's room was still kept as it was before.

In reality, this was quite impolite.

But Lin Mo thought he might find something useful, and it would help him understand Chu Yu better.

The next time he summoned her in the nightmare world, he would have something to talk about.

"Well..." Chu Yu's mother hesitated for a moment but then nodded.

She led Lin Mo upstairs and opened a room.

"This is Little Yu's room. She's been gone for a year now. Whenever I miss her, I come here to sit and talk, as if she could hear me."

Chu Yu's mother sighed, her eyes misting over.

Lin Mo carefully surveyed the room.

It was a typical girl's bedroom, with a single bed, cartoon bedding, and some stuffed toys. Next to the study desk was a piano covered with a cloth. Although no one had lived here, the room was spotlessly clean.

Awards and photos were pasted on the walls.

They documented Chu Yu's growth from childhood to adulthood.

She could dance too.

And paint.

She was truly multi-talented.

Lin Mo carefully noted the room's layout and some distinctive items inside.

The most eye-catching thing in the room was a large patch of colored paper notes on the wall.

Each one had writing on it.

Lin Mo moved closer to look and found that it seemed to be a dialogue between two people.

"These were written by Little Yu and her father. They had an agreement that if there was any conflict between them, or anything they found difficult to say out loud, they would write it on these notes and stick them here. Over time, more and more accumulated."

Chu Yu's mother was visibly upset.

"After Little Yu left, her father might be even more devastated than me..."

Lin Mo saw that the conversation on the wall notes ended last year, and after that, there were only notes from one person.

"Little Yu, you said you liked the red dress, so Dad bought it for you."

"Your favorite snacks are hidden in the gray jar. Remember not to eat too much sugar."

"Dad really wants to see how you look in a wedding dress. You must be beautiful."

"Your mom cried yesterday. I comforted her. Don't worry, I'm here to take care of things at home."

"Little Yu, Dad misses you!"

Lin Mo read them one by one, feeling a mix of emotions.

It was clear that Chu Yu's father had never recovered from the pain of losing his daughter. The notes on the wall were pasted almost every week.

Now, there was a large patch of them.

"Ah, Little Yu was closest to her father," Chu Yu's mother began to wipe her tears.

Lin Mo nodded.

At this moment, the sound of a door opening came from downstairs.

"That's Little Yu's father coming home." Chu Yu's mother wiped her tears clean and walked out. Lin Mo took one last look at the room before following her out.

Downstairs, Lin Mo met Chu Yu's father.

A man who had clearly aged prematurely.

He was an executive at a large company, and though well-dressed, he couldn't hide the sadness and fatigue in his eyes.

"Hello, Uncle," Lin Mo greeted proactively before the man could ask.

"And you are?" Chu Yu's father was visibly confused.

Chu Yu's mother quickly introduced Lin Mo.

"Little Yu's friend?"

Unlike Chu Yu's mother, her father's eyes were filled with suspicion.

He probably didn't believe his daughter would have such a close male friend, and he was even more skeptical that a friend of his daughter would visit after a year.

Under Chu Yu's father's stern gaze, Lin Mo remained completely unfazed.

His calm demeanor made Chu Yu's father momentarily uncertain.

The sky outside was gradually darkening, and Lin Mo had already obtained what he needed. This visit had given him a lot of insight into Chu Yu's past.

All of this was crucial to 'winning over' this spirit of the pen.

"Uncle, Auntie, it's getting late. I should go now."

Lin Mo stood up.

Chu Yu's father was still clearly suspicious, but he couldn't find any evidence at the moment. Seeing Lin Mo about to leave, he stood up with his wife to see him to the door.

At this point, Chu Yu's father clearly noticed the black sedan waiting at the door.

And the driver in the car.

This made him raise an eyebrow.

"Is this your car?" Chu Yu's father asked.

Lin Mo nodded.

"Oh!" The former thought for a moment, then suddenly asked, "What exactly was your relationship with my daughter? Why have I never heard her mention your name?"

It had to be said, Chu Yu's father had keen instincts.

Or rather, he knew his daughter better.

If there really was a friend close enough to visit after a year, she wouldn't have kept it completely secret.

Lin Mo didn't know how to answer and exchanged a glance with him.

Just that one look made Lin Mo's heart skip a beat.

"Oh no, I've been found out!"

He inwardly sighed. After pretending for so long without slipping up, he hadn't expected to be exposed by one look from Chu Yu's father at the last moment.

Chu Yu's father, of course, instantly understood. He became extremely angry.

Perhaps because his sore spot had been touched, this cultured and highly educated man suddenly became ferocious. He rushed down the steps in just a few strides.

"Stop right there. Explain yourself clearly. You're not leaving until you do."

He reached out to grab Lin Mo.

However, at this moment, the driver rushed out at an incredibly fast speed and stood between them.

Lin Mo wasn't surprised.

The driver arranged by the Security Bureau was certainly no ordinary person. Both Leader Liu and Song Qian had mentioned that anyone selected by the Security Bureau was elite among the elite.

So, this person was not just a driver, but also a bodyguard.

Chu Yu's father was blocked and couldn't get through, but he still shouted angrily, "Who exactly are you? What do you want?"

Lin Mo didn't answer his question.

Instead, he looked at him and asked in return, "If you had the chance to say one thing to Little Yu, what would you say to her?"
