Chapter 2 - Wings Remember How to Fly

Bullet shots through her head and her body falls killer's lap. The blood flows like a river and wets the gold toned pendant gold-toned, having a central decoration of a bird in flight within an arched window-like border that has been fallen on the ground. Suddenly gunshots sound is heard in the background.

The three hands of a time spins backward _ violently and impossible fast and suddenly —like time itself was unraveling. The night turns to day and day turns to night from west to east.

The amber eyes stares the two couples got arrested by the police.

"Finally free. Huh!" Alexia speaks up from back taking her hat designed rose bisque colored from the table but Elias remains unfazed in her own world.

The woman turned around and signed her in aggression. The police officer quickly slams her into the seat of the car.

The police car ran off and the atmosphere became silence with gentle wind rustling and a sound of bird .

Alexia stopped for a sec feeling silenced atmosphere and turns to Elias who seems unfazed by her words while holding the hat at the tip of her four fingers lightly. She gracefully adjusted her hat atop her head and walked past her, uttering some words clearly as she went.

"Consider this your second birth. Try not to die this time."

Elias finally blinked her eyes and her heart starts to sink as her long buried emotion and sufferings start to untie and float like a sinking ship. Alexia eyes quickly get filled with tears and slides down her cheek and slowly starts to sobs silently.

"Woof" !

A dog sound suddenly starts to come up and starts to sniff and tuckle Elias. Elias with her wet eyes saw a curly brown coated dog trying to interact. Without much reflective thoughts hugs the dog gently and cries letting her emotion out while the dog remained silent.

After a long time, Elias wiped her tears and pulls out her handkerchief and sneezed out her nose.

The dog looked up after feeling an ease and suddenly jumped out in shock scaring Elias automatically to back up. Elias with her fast paced heartbeat felt difficult, to recognize as her eyes became stiff, so she touch her eyes and found her eyes were swollen up.

______

Elias comes out of her washroom rubbing her face and immediately pulls out her mirror while the dog follows her to the bed.

"Ahh! it's still there" Elias groans with her dissatisfied puffy face at the mirror.

"Woof!" The dog starts to bark more for her attention.

Looking the poodle dog for a moment, Elias just realized their is a unknown dog in her house.

Who's dog it might be? Elias put up her thought and remembered her adopive sister.

Ohhh! It must be of her. Elias confirms with smile and poodle starts to get bark more angrily hearing out. As she was about to pick up her phone to call her and her eyes got locked up on a paper note tied to the black collar of a dog.

She pulls out the note gently from the collar and unwraps it.

"Give him a name. It's yours now" .

Elias ascertain it was from Alecia. She folds the paper thinking and looked at the poodle again—this living, fluffy, warm creature that was looking up at her like she mattered. Like she wasn't just something to be traded for money anymore and felt joy.

"I'm going to name you…" she thought for a moment, feeling the weight in her chest lighten. "Sadie. You're Sadie."

Sadie come upon her with approving eyes and wagged his tail.

Elias took a deep breath and walked out of her room and looked widely around her house. For the first time, it felt like hers. The air didn't feel lacked. Her movement didn't feel monitored. She remembered Alexia placed her black card down with poised assurance into her pocket. So, she sneaked her pocket and pulls out her card that had her name.

She felt excited seeing it back and holds the dog against her chest. Her arms were shaking, but her spine felt straighter than ever.

"Come on, Sadie," she whispered. "Let's go live today. Just because we can."

And so, they stepped out—into a world that finally, finally belonged to them.

The sun rays hit her skin like a gentle beginning to her life. The little poodle acted like she had been waiting her whole life for this moment along with her.

They walked with no destination in mind—without looking back.

And then, Elias finally stopped and saw The Plaza mall. Massive, alive, loud. She hesitated and became unsure whether to go inside or not.

But Sadie barked once, and tugged her forward with surprising force for something so fluffy.

"Okay, okay," she laughed softly. "You win."

She glanced at the other woman walking out from the other door with their bags of clothes. She holds her dog firmly and swears herself to shop beautiful dresses and buy food for Sadie.

Woof! Sadie barked with the agreement sound and she encouraged herself to walk confidently.

Her fingers trailed over fabric she'd only ever seen through glass like a photo while walking past for work.

One by one, she tried Louis Vuitton skirts, Chanel dresses, Valentino platform pumps and so on. She laughed in dressing rooms. She twirled in front of mirrors. And when the staff offered to bag everything up, she handed over the black card of her workplace with a calm smile.

Sadie got treats from the pet store—organic chews, a plush sheep, a teal colored beautiful designed dog bowl with his name engraved, custom name tag and a leash.

She was having a great time feeling her wings spread out spending time with her dog, Sadie playing and remembers watching her adoptive sister buying stuff toys for herself with her parents and she was left alone outside the shop. She felt left out along with that memory and suddenly

Woof! Sadie calls out and goes back to shelves and hands out the bee plushie to her hand. Elias got emotional with Sadie unexpected surprise but calms herself out in public and sees the bee plushie holding her feelings deep inside as the past has gone already. Elias smiled like sunshine, her glow mirrored in Sadie's bright eyes as the dog barked joyfully—as if they understood each other perfectly, and bonded to each other with unspoken bond.
