Darkness. That was the first thing I noticed when consciousness slammed back into me. The second was the pain—my wrists and ankles bound so tightly that every bump sent daggers of pain shooting up my limbs. My mouth was dry, a rough gag cutting into the corners of my lips.
I was in a trunk. The realization hit me with paralyzing terror as the vehicle lurched over another pothole, sending me crashing against something soft—another body.
Not just one. There were others here with me. I could make out three shadowy forms in the cramped space, all bound and gagged like me. One girl's eyes met mine, wide with terror, tears streaming down her face.
I tried to mind-link, to reach out to anyone, but hit a wall of silence. My neck felt heavy, constrained by something cold and metallic. When I tried to shift, nothing happened. My wolf remained dormant, unreachable.
