Episode 70: "The Awakening"

---

Somewhere deep beneath the Earth…

A low hum filled the obsidian chamber, like the slow breathing of a monster asleep. Machines blinked with life, and a central pod stood encased in a cocoon of cables and plasma shields. Within it, a body floated — suspended, waiting.

Subject Omega.

Selene stood with her palm against the glass, her reflection barely visible in the glowing liquid. Her voice was almost tender.

"She was my greatest creation. But you… you are my final masterpiece."

Elias Vane typed rapidly on a tablet beside her, unease rippling across his face.

"She hasn't been stabilized," he warned. "Her neural mapping is incomplete. Waking her now could compromise—"

"She will wake," Selene interrupted coldly. "We no longer have the luxury of time."

She turned away, black coat swirling like smoke.

"Kara is becoming dangerous. Unpredictable. We built her with fire. But this one…"

She smiled darkly.

"…was forged in ice."

---

The Hideout — Hours Later

Kara stared into the flames of a makeshift furnace, her fingers gripping the edge of a steel table. Her mind was a storm — the weight of her identity, her origin, crashing down with every breath.

Adrian stepped beside her, quiet but steady. "We'll find her base. End this. And then we disappear."

Kara's lips tightened. "She won't stop unless I do. I was built from her obsession. She made me in her image. And now…"

Her voice trembled, but she held on.

"…I have to kill my own creator."

Tessa entered holding a decoded map. "We've got it. The last Lazarus site — 'Zone Omega.' Underground, beneath the ice caverns off Blackridge. Hidden beneath false military zones."

Ronan checked his weapons. "It's suicide. But we've come this far."

Adrian looked at Kara. "You sure you want to face her?"

Kara met his gaze, flames flickering in her eyes. "I was made to burn. Let's show her how bright I can get."

---

En Route to Zone Omega

The vehicle roared across frozen terrain. White storms howled outside as the team suited up in heat armor and combat gear.

Kara stared through the fogged window. "Do you think there's more like me? Other versions still sleeping?"

Tessa hesitated. "If Selene was trying to perfect her legacy… then yes. It's possible she made dozens. Hundreds, even."

Ronan grunted. "Then we make this simple. We find the control core, shut it down, and blow it all to hell."

---

Zone Omega

The entrance was hidden beneath a collapsed comms station, sealed in layers of ice. Tessa hacked into the gates while Adrian and Ronan cleared the perimeter.

As they entered, the temperature dropped — not just physically, but something deeper. As if the walls themselves were breathing.

Inside were chambers filled with failed experiments. Mutated limbs. Preserved faces, some familiar. Some… Kara couldn't bear to look at.

She moved ahead until she reached a corridor marked with her own name.

SUBJECT K-47: REJECTED.

Her heart pounded.

Why rejected?

---

The Awakening Room

Far ahead, red lights pulsed. They entered a vast central chamber — and froze.

There, at the heart, was the containment pod.

Inside floated a girl.

Kara's exact face.

But younger. Paler. Her hair floated like silk around her, and her eyes… they opened.

Violet. Unblinking. Cold.

Selene's voice echoed from the speakers.

"Welcome, Kara… to the beginning of your end."

---

The Clone Awakens

The chamber trembled as Subject Omega's eyes flicked between Kara and the team. Her body moved like liquid metal as she stepped from the pod, barefoot on steel.

Kara stepped forward. "You don't have to do this. I'm not your enemy."

Omega tilted her head, then whispered in a voice like glass, "I don't know you."

A flash of blue light surged from her hands — and Tessa screamed, flung across the room by telekinetic force.

Ronan fired.

Omega moved faster than sight. She disarmed him with a single flick, slamming him into a pillar.

Adrian rushed forward — but Kara held him back.

"This is my fight."

---

Kara vs. Omega

The air burned between them as Kara stood across from her clone — the mirror of what she could've been.

"You're not her puppet," Kara growled. "You're more than this."

Omega's voice was empty. "I am her will."

And then she struck.

The room exploded with energy as the two clashed — fists, flames, fury. Kara's power ignited, her body glowing with white fire, while Omega shimmered with frost and psychic rage.

Each blow shook the foundation.

Each scream echoed with generations of pain.

---

The Final Choice

Kara pinned Omega, hand to her chest. "You can fight her. I did."

Omega's eyes flickered — a hesitation.

Behind her, Selene's voice screamed from the intercom. "KILL HER! FINISH IT!"

But Omega blinked… then whispered, "I don't want to be a weapon."

Kara's hand softened.

Behind them, Adrian and Tessa rushed to the control system. "We can overload the system. Shut it all down — but we have to run."

Kara turned to Omega. "Come with us."

Omega looked between them… then nodded.

But Selene's override engaged.

Self-destruct initiated.

Ten minutes.

---

Escape

The team ran through collapsing tunnels as alarms blared. Omega guided them through corridors Kara had never seen, her instincts still sharp.

At the last moment, a blast ripped through the ceiling — separating Kara and Omega.

"Kara!" Omega screamed.

"I'll find you!" Kara shouted. "GO!"

The roof caved in, and the team barely escaped.

---

Outside, Kara fell to her knees, coughing ice and ash.

The mountain behind them crumbled.

Zone Omega… gone.

But inside her, something had changed.

She wasn't alone anymore.

And somewhere beneath the ruin…

Omega still lived.
