Early the next morning, Draco drove his wife Lana and his elderly mother to the police station. The atmosphere inside the car was heavy with tension, no one uttering a word. Last night's discovery had ripped through their family like a hurricane, and today, they were about to confront the eye of the storm—Dessie.
As soon as they arrived, Draco walked straight up to the front desk and requested to see the suspect.
"We're the victims' family," he said firmly. "We'd like to speak with Dessie Finnegan."
After verifying their identity, the officer nodded and motioned for them to wait. A few minutes later, Dessie was brought out in handcuffs, led by two officers down the hall to the visitation room.
As soon as Lana saw her, something inside her cracked. She lunged forward instinctively, but one of the officers held her back.
"Please, Mrs. Finnegan. Calm down," the officer urged, gently but firmly.
