Axel had tried every trick he could think of to convince Jaimie to stop calling him "Mommy," but the kid was relentless. No matter how many times Axel explained that he wasn't married to Jayvaughn yet and that "Uncle Axel" was more appropriate, the child remained stubbornly faithful.
"But you're still going to get married though," Jaimie replied confidently, blinking up at him with absolute certainty.
Axel sighed, finally admitting defeat. "Fine. Do whatever you want," he muttered under his breath, slumping back into the leather couch.
Once they moved on from the whole mommy-title mess, the atmosphere lightened. Axel and Jaimie ended up having a surprisingly fun time together in Jayvaughn's sleek office—tossing stress balls, building towers from office supplies, and giggling over Axel's failed attempts to imitate cartoon voices. For someone who hadn't expected to babysit today, Axel found himself enjoying the boy's company far more than he anticipated.
